We hope you can join us in our many activities you can find here: www.calvarynewark.org We have a blended contemporary/traditional worship service at 10:30 am on Sundays with Sunday school before hand at 9:15 am for all ages! We have free childcare during our services as well. We also have tons of activities like a rocking contemporary worship service on the first Sunday night of every month (6-7 pm) with a FREE dinner afterward. We have youth group for 6-12th graders on most Sundays 4-6 pm and every Wed. 6-8 (with a free dinner as well). We have a young adult/college Bible Study group that meets twice a month for fun events and Bible Studies usually on Sundays 12-2 pm (with a free lunch, can you sense the pattern?). The Journey is a wonderful place to just "be" and to "belong". The church is centered on helping…read morepeople finding Jesus and following Him fully. That sentence is lived out by so many journeyers, faithfully. The church do a great job peacefully connecting Jesus for new people to their faith as well as "seasoned followers". It is always evident at the Newark location where I attend regularly, is that love is the center between its people, even affirming and welcoming people who are still reserving their decision about faith/religion/church/belief systems. The Journey has a multi site location model pre and post Covid. Hockessin and online with another location just announced in the state of Delaware. I am blessed to be apart of a church that has brought so many wonderful memories to people I am around and also to those who have now moved on to pastures new, more wiser, more self aware, and maybe even more broken in some ways, which is a beautiful part of following The Lord. I will not attend any place of worship that does not accept everyone or bashes other religions. That is the reason; I decided to attend the Unitarian Universalist church. They are a very open-minded church that welcomes everyone. Honestly, I have not attended any Sunday services in over a decade. I know I am not the church goer type. My religion is compassion and kindness; however, I would like to attend a place with people that share my similar thoughts and values about the world and life. Today I arrived here and a gentleman in the front greeted me and handed me a pamphlet. A very nice couple also greeted me and invited me to sit with them and their family. I appreciated the very kind gesture. The church members are very nice people. During the service they invited people to share their current life situations and light a candle. I think it was very nice to see people so open. They had a guest speaker, I enjoyed listening to him. In addition, they sang many songs. Please forgive me for saying, but I was bored by the songs. Yes, the songs had a beautiful message however; the music was boring and outdated. Young people want to hear a beat to keep them awake. They have children and teenagers members but most of the members are experienced people. I love older people because of their knowledge and wisdom. I feel in order to keep these members through adulthood they need to be more current. It is a great place for a young adult to be part of because they are involved in social justice and humanitarian efforts. I think what they are doing is wonderful; however, I would like to see more young adults and diversity of races.

I also have got to witness my only brother re-dedicate his life back to Christ and get baptized again. Our new Pastors, Pastor kirk and Shianne Pearson's our absolutely two of the most spirit lead caring/loving individuals I have ever met. They truly live & have the love of Christ in their hearts. They took over as the new Pastors in 2022 when our old existing Pastors Steven and Barbra Harvell retired. I love this Church!!! God made no mistake when he sent us our new leaders. There has been an amazing number of men, women, young adults, teens, family's giving their life to God each week. There is a spiritual powerful connection being apart of this church. I can not even being to explain the blessings, opportunities for my business and miracles that have happened with myself, family and members connected to the body of christ here at LOCC. This is my home and these our my Pastors. I pray every body gets to experience the love of christ, because the moment you walk through those doors, you feel it!

I attended this church for years. We started in 2020 after they reopened their kids church…read morefollowing the pandemic. I was a newly born again Christian and we were looking for a community for myself, my husband and 5 children. At first, it seemed perfect. I got a lot out of the messages but I never really connected deeply with anyone. Any friendships I made were very superficial. It took about 2 years to find another family to really connect with, but they were also a newer family and also didn't have any deep connections there. In Dec of 2022, we decided to leave due to several things. One of them was the gap between the leaders and the congregation. The lead pastors don't seem like they really embrace the role of pastor. He says he cant possibly pastor that many people, which is true, but he uses that as an excuse to not talk to anyone outside his circle or get to know anyone else in the congregation. He makes jokes about the fact that he can't council people, but that's a huge part if being a pastor. IMO that would make one more of a preacher than an actual pastor. But I digress. I returned to this church in April of 2023 after my husband passed away. I craved to be around the few people I had grown close to, so I returned. It should have been a red flag from the beginning, but neither one of the lead pastors attended the service, or so much as called me to express their condolences. It took two months for them to say anything, and it's only because they passed by me in the hallway. At that point it was "oh I've been meaning to tell you how sorry I am..." yeah right. The sting of losing my husband was a blinder to the dysfunction of this church. In early 2024, I was struggling with addiction and I reached out to the church leadership for help. They had just started "Recovery church" which was a 12 step program being run by people who never actually worked the 12 steps. Needless to say, I didn't get the help I needed there. I managed to get a small amount of clean time, but when I relapsed again after 5 or 6 weeks, the entire church knew with 24 hours and most people stopped talking to me. "I was being given over to my sin," was the claim from leadership. There I was, a struggling widow begging for their help, and that was their approach. In reality, they had no idea how to help me. This church runs on behavior modification vs true transformation in Christ, and addiction treatment requires actual transformation in order for recovery to take place. The level of gossip that went on that led to everyone knowing overnight was sickening. It should have been another red flag when the lead pastor called the whole congregation "cowards" because everyone felt the same way but no one would confront him (that he was unapproachable and out of touch with his congregation). Yes, he really said that. Please ask him. There is so much more dysfunction that I observed here, I could probably write a small pamphlet. Ultimately I will say this: if you're looking for a beginner church where you're fed a watered down milk of a gospel, a place where you can run in and out and hide and never really have to get involved, where you'll never be progressed to actual meat of the Bible, if you don't take your walk that seriously and you have no desire to progress and find true transformation in Christ, then this place is for you. But if you're after the Gospel, the unfiltered, unadulterated Gospel of Jesus, if you want a community who will accept your brokenness just as you are, who will love you until you can learn how to properly love yourself, who will stand by you while they usher you into the presence of God for the healing you need, then you may want to try the church down the street.

We stopped in to this church to visit our niece and her family today (Sunday, 2015-05-03). It took…read morejust a few minutes to find it at 444 creamery way, but the awning helped us find it. The congregation is vibrant: there are people engaged of all ages in worship, the worship leadership, and also in Sunday school afterwards. It was encouraging to see people going in with bibles in their hands and the emphasis on scripture in the service. The people were all very welcoming and made us feel at home for our first visit. We're sure to stop in again if we're ever in the area!
