I have never been to a service at this ministry and as a college student I was considering this…read morelocation while looking for a church to attend while in Rock Hill, but I will not be attending these church services because of the way my non-profit organization was treated while reserving a room at the center. Our organization was having a retreat. A night of bonding and team building. As we were coming to an end a member of the staff entered and interrupted our final activity saying how rude and disrespectful we were being by not being out of the building at 10. He proceeded to turn the lights out on us and stand and watch as we cleaned up. After this rude encounter a leader of our organization went to apologize for us being 10 minutes behind on leaving the building, she was told "this is not a joke and very rude and disrespectful." I myself being of Christian faith have never and could never imagine being so rude towards a group of young women, who are trying to do a good thing, and am very disturbed by the way this man approached this situation with our group of young ladies. Again this is no reflection on the service or the message received at this temple but reserving a room there was a complete nightmare because of the disrespectful way in which we were treated tonight.

I had to stop and check it out, though it was secured on Saturday morning and no services were underway. The marker out front is on two sides and reads, "Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church. This church, which grew out of First Presbyterian Church, was discussed as early as 1901, with the first definite plans made in 1909. The leaders of First Presbyterian required that a new church be built before any members left the church. This church was intended to serve the faculty and students at nearby Winthrop College (now Winthrop University)." On the reverse, it reads, "This Gothic Revival church built in 1912, was designed by Charlotte architect C.C. Hook and held its first services in December 1912. The church was formally organized in September 1913, then dedicated that November. Reverend Alexander Martin, who served both First and this church 1912-1914, became the first full-time pastor here in 1914, serving until 1931." We have attended the 8:00 AM service quite a few times now at St. Mary's, and it was a wonderful…read moreexperience. From the moment I arrived, everyone was incredibly welcoming and kind. The atmosphere was peaceful, reverent, and inviting, making it easy to feel comfortable as both a visitor and a parent. The service itself was beautiful, and I truly appreciated the sense of community and faith present throughout the congregation. It was refreshing to be in a place where people seemed genuinely happy to see one another and worship together. The only challenge for me was having my toddler with me. Like many parents, I felt self-conscious and guilty whenever she made a little noise during the service. However, I also know that children belong in the congregation and are an important part of the Church community. While it can be difficult navigating Mass with a young child, I appreciated being able to worship with my daughter by my side. Overall, St. Mary's left a very positive impression on me. The warmth of the congregation and the beauty of the service made for a meaningful experience, and I look forward to attending again.
