A self-contained event, you were allowed to bring your own chairs, food, etc.. Pet-friendly with water bowls and treats throughout the venue, they tied themselves to the non-profit organization Best Friends Animal Society Los Angeles and No Kill Los Angeles (NKLA) to help with pet adoption. Would this nostalgic return and revamped idea of the drive-in movie pull at my sentimental strings to return for more!? PURCHASE General Admission Ticket/Seat ($14.00 + fees) - Purchased online (priced higher at the door the day of the event), this was open seating, so first come-first served. Armed with a low chair (ABSOLUTELY NO TALL CHAIRS), blanket, cushion, and pillow to sit on just in case, I claimed an unobstructed spot center screen at the very top of the seating area. Tickets also gained access to food trucks and live pre-movie music performance. Below were other ticketing options (things brought were the same): 1. Fashionably Late Tickets ($21.00 + fees - online purchase only) offered a limited quantity of guaranteed open seating tickets in a reserved area at the front of the house that allowed you to arrive at any time (hopefully before the movie started!). 2. PARKING (FREE) Plenty of FREE parking at The Autry Museum and L.A. Zoo across the street. Another option would be to hire a driving service like a taxi, Lyft, or Uber, and there was a nearby bus station - 'nuff said. The stage was at the foot of the screen, but wished they had a camera that projected the performance onto the screen. Exposed to the elements, you heard random sounds from conversations, dogs barking, and vehicle traffic, etc.. The aforementioned gigantic movie screen was your TV while DJ Carter and the live band provided the music. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL Eat See Hear on the lawn of The Autry Museum was my favorite location because of its closeness to home, beautiful surroundings, and a ton of free parking. This concept was popular enough for others to imitate. The onsite staff were very charming and helpful. Good idea for summer nights in Los Angeles, plenty of free parking, the sound and picture are good for an out door venue. I like the choice of food trucks. Here's what could be better, making sure people with tall chairs don't sit right in front of everyone, making sure people who some how think their dogs would enjoy going to a film clean up after them. Having a band and or DJ that is actually good play before the film, or at least play music that anyone that doesn't live in Silverlake has ever heard before. read more

Came to see the movie, "Friday" at LA Historic State park near Chinatown last weekend. The park was nice, but there definitely would have been nicer if there was more grass. Parking was a bit odd on the woodchips, but I was able to get a pretty good location after driving over a curb :-). There were about 7 foodtrucks at the event. We tried The Chairman, which was great, and also Mastermind, which was terrible. Cathy and Sunny joined us and they went with the Indian food option, which was good. I actually have never seen "Friday" before, and I did enjoy it. It was a bit cold, so I'm glad that we brought a blanket. Maybe next time I'll even bring a pillow so that I can really lay down and watch the movie! Overall, a nice Saturday night out. Tips are to bring warm clothes. I've been to 2 EAT SEE HEAR movies and I am certainly a fan. They have the largest inflatable screen in the US with a vast sound system and professional staff. We really enjoy the live bands, entertainment and food trucks. What a great way to get out with you friends, family and even pets! They offer free dog treats and doody bags. Pack a dinner and cooler (no alcohol allowed), bringing low chairs, blankets, pillows and sweatshirts and get comfy! And if the movie is on a lawn, I recommend some bug spray. The mosquitoes have been active (trust me.. I have over 10 bites on my lower legs, back and arms ...ugh). Bathrooms are clean (no lights on porta potties -bummer). Great way to spend a Saturday evening! The parking is easy, the line goes by fast and you can pack a picnic. There is reserved seating at the front, but you have to pay a little more for. We arrived around 6PM and got good seats smack in the middle. We put our blanket down and hit up the food trucks. Luckily it wasn't super busy but when we got up for second rounds, it took a little while. We had the firecracker wings from Belly Bombz, then came back for the pork belly buns and more wings - Mom's recipe. So good. We also got the loaded fries from Tokyo Doggie Style - also very yummy. I also got a cookie sandwich from Cool Haus, which I normally love but maybe I picked the wrong flavors. I got a red velvet ice cream with a cake cookie. It was just okay. The movie was good and we packed our own wine. I know the site says its prohibited, but they don't even check. Porta-potties were surprisingly clean and it was pretty quick to get out of the park. I guess I will have to write my review for Eat See Hear here since they don't have the option of writing one for the Brentwood location. My friends and I attended Eat See Hear earlier this month for their showing of 16 Candles at Revere Junior High in Brentwood. In short... We loved it! :) The venue was big and spacious. We appreciated the fact that people couldn't sit in high beach chairs in the front. The screen was big and the sound system was great... We had no trouble hearing during the movie at all... (although it was a bit loud in the beginning when they had music)... There was a lot of food trucks on site as well but the food was whatevers plus the wait was crazy long! We had to wait 45 min for our fried chicken and waffles... You don't expect that long of a wait for food at a food truck... Plus we waited 30 min in line to order! Aiyahhhh!!! Besides that everything else was great! The movie was fun and I definitely don't remember 16 candles to be so rated R... But it was quite entertaining... And I loved that the actors from the movie was there to open for the show! Long Duk Dong & Marlene!!! Yay!!! Wish I got a picture with them! All in all it was a fun night! Thanks to ESH Santa Monica, we thoroughly enjoyed LOAO for the screening of "Coming to America" this past weekend~ * YES - Clean-ish open venue at SM High School * YES - Auditorium seating guarantees un-blocked movie viewing * YES - Food trucks on site or picnic-style event with BYO food baskets * YES - Mellow LA-band playing before the movie * BOO - This is a big "oh heck no"...some slow-minded peeps parked at the designated Civic Center parking but failed to read sign when entering lot that they must pay at pay station before exiting. This caused huge traffic jam as long lines of cars in exit lines had to wait while they ran back to pay given there were no attendees at the exits. Ohhh goodness... We arrived 10 minutes before the Mo ir started, set up our chairs, and then walked over to the food trucks and everything was closed. All the food trucks closed the second the movie starts. Why? Why not stay open for 20 minutes to make sure everyone has a chance to get food. It also doesn't say this on their website. Their schedule for movies is sparse. I would suggest Street Food Cinema. Such a fun summer event for anyone! And They allow dogs :) if you haven't been before don't hesitate going. definitely need to go prepared, take a lot of pillows and good thick blanket to sit on. There's usually many food trucks but a lot of people pack their own food and snacks. The lines for the trucks take a while, I prefer packing all my snacks and even some wine. Shout out to Brittany F. for posting this event! I came to the Back to the Future movie night at Pasadena City Hall, aka Pawnee City Hall from Parks and Recreation. What an amazing venue. They had the movie screen right in front of the the giant mission style City Hall building and it made for a beautiful backdrop. The doors opened at 5:30, but I didn't make it till around 6:45. Parking was not too hard to find, we found a lot for $3 about 3 blocks away. There was still plenty of seating space at the front and off to the side a little around 7pm, but they were sold out, so I would recommend buying your tickets online in advance. General admission tickets are $12 each with a $1 processing fee online. The sound was very loud, but you got used to it after 10 minutes. You do not need to worry about hearing the movie. We brought our dog and he had a great time walking around meeting all the new people and other dogs. The other people there were very friendly and I would say the majority were young adults in their early thirties out with dates and other friends. There were a fair number of parents with kids, but not as many as I expected. Definitely a hot Saturday night date spot. They are showing Princess Bride at the same location on Sept 12, I'm sure that will be very popular. They had several food trucks available, but everyone came with the mindset that they were going to have dinner there so the lines were atrociously long. I would recommend bringing your own food to avoid the hassle and maybe just get a snack if you find a food truck line that is not as long. Before the movie they had a live band that performed. A little after 8:30pm the preliminary movie started. I'm not sure what it was, the theme was time travel and it was supposed to be funny, but I just wanted to get to the main event. Back to the Future started around 9pm, it was so great to see it on the big screen. I had not seen it in a long time and I had forgotten just how much I liked it. The crowd was great, clapping and cheering at all the right points. When the movie ended everyone smoothly folded up their lawn chairs and walked to their cars. There was plenty of security and police cars around for the late 11pm end time. If you have the chance to go to one of these summer movie nights, take it! Nothing screams summer more than an outdoor movie and a long lines of food trucks! Came here Saturday night for the Wet Hot American Summer movie showing at the Autry! Got there around 6:00pm, doors open at 5:30pm, so we got a good spot in front of the screen before it started filling up. Get cozy with your neighbors because the grass was pretty full by the time the movie started. Lots of portapotties for your pleasure and located at the front near the movie screen. Loved the tshirt, hat, and sunglasses giveaways! Great movie with the added bonus of two episodes of the new series on Netflix. woo! Bring in ALL THE SNACKS AND DRINKS...and lawn chairs, blankets, pillows. It definitely got chilly by the end of the night. I loved that there were about 20 different food trucks for this event. Foodie heaven. The Cool Haus ice cream truck line was the longest by the end of the night bc it was the only ice cream truck... so if Eat See Hear is reading... This was a really fun event. Outdoor movie and a concert for $12 - in LA, that's hard to beat. On the flip-side you're paying to see a band that you might never have heard of and a movie that you've already seen 5 times. But watching a movie outdoors, on a giant screen, with good friends, and great food is hard to beat. First of all, parking at SMHS is pretty easy. We parked at 6:15pm and arrived at around 6:30pm with free street parking and plenty of open seating to watch the movie. If you choose to arrive later - like around 7:30 or 8:00pm, you're going to have a much more difficult time finding a good spot. Although my favorite food trucks were not in attendance, they had a good number of varied options. Also, you are allowed to bring food in from outside (i.e. a pizza from Whole Foods, etc.) so don't think that you need to purchase food. Although you're not technically allowed to have alcohol on school grounds, many people brought bottles of beer and wine. You need to be desecrate if you do this and be sure to pack-out what you bring in, but no one checks you at the gate and it's not discouraged during the event (you're asked to be respectful). We brought wine in a water bottle since it was our first time, but we wish we brought in one (or two) bottles without going through the trouble of re-packaging. Finally, if you're at the SMHS location, you're a few blocks from the ocean, so it does get cold at night - bring a jacket or an extra blanket. You may also want to bring a beach chair, pillows, etc. since the concrete steps can become uncomfortable after a few hours. Overall, great event in fun locations around the city. read more

Has potential, but some promoter errors left me wondering if I'd come again. Tonight's 'Wet Hot American Summer' was 'sold out' . I saw them turning people away that did not have pre-purchased tickets, which is great.. BUT... #1... The website says tickets can be purchased at door... How about making it clear on line that tickets are LIMITED? #2. Honor the ... LIMITED TICKETS..!! I purchased tickets over a month ago, yet if people hung around long enough tonight, They were let in !! An announcer before the show started asked people to 'squeeze together' because there were a lot of people wanting to get in .. Packing so many people in is not fair to the guests. It's potentially dangerous and any 'comfort' has been shot once people cannot get through & around the masses of people. I say to the promoter... Stop being inconsiderate and only focusing on how much $$ you can squeeze out of the nights event. It makes people think twice about attending one of your events again. Lastly, as we were leaving the same announcer asks everyone to take their trash with them... I'd like to ask ... WHERE would the promoters like the trash to go ..? Home with those that attended?? Because there was in no way enough trash cans provided ANYWHERE at this event. I saw 4 cans on the east side of the venue .. They were overflowing BEFORE the show started... And we're never emptied. They definitely took advantage of the nice summer weather in LA! Decided to surprise my boyfriend for an outdoor movie on his birthday weekend, and it was so much fun! We went to the one at Autry Museum, parking was free so that was nice. We came around 6:30 and got a pretty good spot in the middle. The spots definitely got filled up fast within the next hour. They had a great selection of food trucks, we had such a hard time deciding which one to try. We ended up getting the Trash Fries and it was delicious! It went well with the drinks we got from the bar in the back. You can also BYOB or snacks if you don't want to spend money, we killed a bottle of wine while watching the movie. Getting out of the parking lot was kind of a pain, but overall a great experience still! read more

We had SOOOOOO much fun here! Came to the Big Lebowski showing at Griffith Park! We came at 5:30 when the event opened and got great seats on the side of the VIP section. The center area is reserved for people with low beach chairs and blankets only. Since, we brought high camping chairs, we had to sit on the side of the VIP section, but we still had an awesome view. What to Bring: Low beach chairs or camping chairs (if you sit outside the center area), a cheap plastic tablecloth (to keep the grass from getting your blankets wet), water, alcohol (they say no alcohol at the event, but they even had a booth selling alcohol at our event), lots of blankets, SNACKS (the food trucks are expensive...its smarter to bring your own food to supplement the food trucks). Notes: The flags and the caution tape that section of the VIP section will come down before the movie starts. Hence, don't worry about picking an area near the flags or the caution tape. Parking was free and plentiful! Escaping the parking lot after the event was a different story. Leave immediately after the event to avoid getting stuck in the crowd! read more

I made it out to Eat See Hear in Santa Monica. VERY VERY cool event! I would say there were 1500 - 2000 people out for the event. Here's the breakdown. Doors: Easy entry. Very organized and professional. They had 8 staffers greeting you and checking you in. They had separate lines for pre-sale and cash walkups. They wrist-banded the wife and I (ie: re-entry i allowed!) and we were in very swiftly! Food Trucks: They had 10 savory food trucks and 2 dessert trucks! So many options, and the line waiting was very fair compared to most food truck events. I had a Rueben Sandwich & Tator Tots from "Mo Deli". Yum yum yum yum! Venue: I guess they bounce around LA, but this week was held at SAMO High School's HUGE baseball field. It was a great venue with enough grassy space for the very large crowd! Crowd: Lots of beautiful young & hip adults. People watching was great! There were a few families since the film was technically family friendly (princess bride). Band: Great local indie rock group called "Derde Verde". They reminded me of a young radiohead mixed with a more melodic vocal approach. They sounded great and the audio production was excellent as well. The sound was very clear and loud all over the venue space! Film: The Princess Bride is one of my favorites of all time. The airscreen they used was MASSIVE! The wife and I were far back near the projectors, and still had a great view. The image was very bright and crisp. The sound mix & coverage was great as well. Great movies outdoors, under the stars, in LA AND w/ awesome food trucks....YES, PLEASE! :) Went here this past Saturday to see TED w/ a friend and we were lucky enough to have the "Fashionably Late" Tickets w/ included a gift bag w/ magazine, TED T-Shirt, Pop Chips and other goodies. We also received preferred seating AND an option of HUGE Beanbags OR HUGE Fold-able Chairs (courtesy of Pop-Chips). Pop Chips also gave out yummy free samples of different flavors of their products to munch on during the movies..a few of the trucks closed up or ran out of food just before the start of the movie so the snacks came in handy! My sister and I attended Eat See Hear's showing of JAWS. The weather was perfect, the scenery was copacetic and the event was pet friendly! We arrived a little after 5:30pm with pre-sale tickets saved in my phone's Passbook. You are allowed to bring your own food and beverages (as well as alcoholic drinks) to the park. Definitely bring a comfy blanket to lay out on, too! With three hours before the movie, many attendees, including myself, perused through the many food trucks conveniently parked a few feet from the grass. They accept cash, credit and debit cards, and I suggest lining up for food early because everyone seemed to flock to these amazing eateries right before show time. Two bands also came out and performed before the movie. The live music was as great way to set the tone and break the ice a little bit. People were pretty friendly, and it was nice being able to bring my dog to the event for once! Compared to Cinespia's regular outdoor productions in Hollywood Forever Cemetery, my first impression of Eat See Hear was surprisingly, more pleasant. Free parking is provided right across the street at the Los Angeles Zoo, which I found to be a big factor in my decision to explore Eat See Hear. Finding parking around Hollywood Cemetery on the other hand, is literally a nightmare every time... unless you're willing to spend. I love the glam atmosphere at Hollywood Forever, but Griffith Park gives you more of that feeling like you are camping out in the California wilderness, which was a nice change. read more

This was my first time attending the eat-see-hear outdoor movie at the Autry. The website read that it was doggie friendly so my sister and I we took our pups, which turned out to be great! We got there pretty early, around 5:30ish- we figured we could play with the doggies, drink and eat before the movie began. It turned out to be a gorgeous day! Tips: 1. Low beach chairs a MUST! 2. Blankies (it does get chilly at night time) 3. Bug repellent 4. Food/snackies- there are lots of good food trucks but I personally think that nothing beats homemade food :) although, I did end up ordering wings from the asian craving truck which was actually pretty darn delish- and it was only 8 beans! 5. I'd recommend bringing your own alco ahem!* hol- the bar had beers- bottles/tap ($7), house wine ($7) but that's just me cause I do drink like a fish so I ended up spending more than expected :( There were johns all around the park, but there was an actual bathroom by the bar area and it was clean- so no complains there. Overall, we all had an awesome time! We'd definitely do this a couple of more times before the summer ends!!!!!!!! read more

I have been to about 4 screenings over the years...as well as other brands on this type of event...the folks at Eat See Hear do it right. It's well organized and a lot of fun. Bring a short chair, blanket, friends, your dog and come by. The event is dog friendly and they even have treats at the door! Eat is food trucks. They usually have 10-12 each event. Something for everyone. See is a movie on a giant blow up screen. It's great because I've never had a bad seat. Tonight was "Back to the Future". They even had a DeLorean time machine & Hover Board! Hear is a local live band. Tonight was Yoya. They were good. I guess like and alt rock band. All for about the same price as a regular movie! They do sell out so I'd advise to buy tickets in advance. I also like to arrive early. Stake out a prime spot, get a jump on food and hang out in the sun! It's a great causal evening. Perfect on a summer night. I think everyone should do it. I've learned...along with blanket, chairs a cooler of drinks I also got a roll up table. It's so perfect for this type of event. I go as much as I can. read more

Very disappointed with the customer service! I recently attended an event at the Autry park for The Sandlot. I have been to quite a few of the Eat See Hear events and always had an amazing time. This time....not so much! The lines to get in were terribly mismanaged and extremely long. After waiting for about 15 minutes, one of my friends spotted a shorter line so we moved over (there were 6 of us, carrying food, chairs, etc) and after waiting in that line for about 10 minutes we got to the front of that line and the women refused to let us in! She said that it wasn't a line and that we needed to go back to the line to the left. I told her we had been waiting behind a different crowd so how come they were allowed in? She then told us that those were her "friends" so she was helping them out. Obviously, this didn't sit well with me so we argued a little back and forth and I eventually asked for to speak with the manager. This is when I was REALLY disappointed with the event and will NEVER go to another. Not only was the manager extremely rude he actually tried to pick a verbal fight with me. From the moment he walked over he was aggressive and clearly wasn't trying to help the customer. I understand defending your employee, but when he asked me if I wanted to "have her fired" (obvi sarcastically) I was appalled. Of course not, I'm simply just trying to get into an event that I paid $25 for! And it's not like I'm asking for preferential treatment...I had already waiting inline for 25 minutes!!! That's great for the couples that want to come see a romantic movie and have access to food trucks, but if your family driving by and you just want to pick up some food there is no option. I was told very sternly 2 separate time that you may not purchase food unless you pay the entrance fee at the haphazard plastic fence... Family of three pays $38 just to get in. Movie tonight is 'When Harry Met Sally' obviously not intended to appeal to kids. Too bad, seems like such an opportunity if it were promoted and advertised correctly they could capture a much larger target audience... Amateur hour, I wouldn't be so critical if the staff we spoke to would've been nicer to my son and I. They need to start with improving the customer service if they want people to return! read more

Hard to beat outdoor movie nights for a summertime activity, and these events are really well-run. Tall camping chairs are only allowed on the sides, so it's easy to get a decent view, and the more expensive reserved section doesn't take up all of the prime real estate. Port-a-potties are never my top choice, but the organizers here provide wash stations and baby wipes and stuff. Dog-friendly, with bowls of water scattered about and milkbones at check-in. I like these better than Street Food Cinema, though both are good. I find that the sound setup is better here and the lines for bathrooms and food trucks are shorter. Most importantly, Street Food Cinema cordons off a huge area for the more expensive tickets, which kind of sucks. The fancypants section here is far more reasonably sized. One star ding because no matter how you slice it, $16 is a lot to pay to sit on the ground. read more

Favorite outdoor cinema/food festival? No, but not a bad way to spend a Saturday night, especially if they're showing your favorite movie! Reasons that Eat See Hear is not as good as Street Food Cinema: 1. Venue Exposition Park pretty much beats out anything Eat See Hear offers. 2. Organization Street Food Cinema strictly enforces chairs to sit on the side section, not blocking the view of people in the middle. Eat See Hear only encourages people with tall chairs to sit on the side, but no mention of short chairs, which will still block your view. 3. Truck selection Not as many food trucks, though the lines are definitely shorter! 4. Parking No mention of parking fee ($5 at Paul Revere Middle School) until you pull all the way into the lot. Tips: - Bring food + drinks (though it says alcohol not allowed on school premises, that was not enforced), cash for parking + food, chairs, lots of blankets (it gets really cold), friends, family, the dog. Leave crying baby at home with babysitter. Please. - You can find discounted tickets available on Goldstar. Sometimes complimentary (with a small processing fee)! - Do NOT bother with the VIP Fashionably Late ticket. While VIP do receive a different color wristband, they do not check for wristbands in that section. read more

One of the best parts about LA in the summer is watching outdoor movies. There are a lot of companies that organize events like this, but Eat See Hear is one of the best. I love that they bring together food, music, and movies so that it's a full experience every time you go! Most recently I went to Santa Monica High to watch When Harry Met Sally. I love that they have movies playing all around the LA area so that you can choose the one that's convenient to you. (I love going to Hollywood Forever for their cinespia movies but it's just too inconvenient to go all the way to Hollywood in rush hour traffic!) SMHS has a great greek theater setup that's perfect for this kind of event. People set up their blankets and folding chairs (low ones only) on the stadium seats and there's plenty of space to spread out. The other thing I love is that they allow dogs at this event. They make plenty of announcements warming to pick up after your dog or else we might lose pet privileges from the venue, but for the most part all the dogs seemed really well behaved and quiet. I didn't hear one bark during the movie! And no outdoor movie would be complete without snacks, of course. There's a great variety of food trucks, from the lobster roll truck to coolhaus ice cream sandwiches, so there will be something for whatever you're craving. The lines get pretty insane right before the movie starts, so I recommend coming early and buying your food way in advance. I think I ended up waiting about 30 minutes for my lobster mac and cheese. It's a fantastic event, perfect for a date night or just a fun night out doing something different with friends. They have a great selection of movies throughout the summer so make sure you catch one before it's too late! read more

Such a fun thing to do in LA!!! Highly recommend this! Outdoor movie in the park- I saw the Big Lebowski. I brought my dog, and, if you are a big dog lover, you will be in heaven! I absolutely loved seeing all the cute dogs walking around. They have some amazing food trucks, too! I was even able to find a vegan burger off of a truck called the Pork Belly I think- I think it was a panko-crusted tofu, with a refreshing slaw on it, with a side of fries with a spice dust. It's now twice I have been to Eat See Hear. The crowds are massive and I've repeated watching movies at the same venue: SaMoHi. So if you're hanging out and watching a movie there like I did for Pitch Perfect and Zoolander, please note the following advice and expertise on this experience 1) Bring blankets, it gets cold at night and windy, even on a 70 degree weather day. The wind trapped between the buildings will funnel on over to you. 2) Bring floor pillows, your butt gets sore sitting on the cement pavement 3) Maybe a mini beach chair if you're ambitious; think Pic-N-Save 4) Sweaters and an extra sweater for a friend 5) Arrive early at per say 6pm if you want to avoid waiting in a food truck line for 30+ minutes or get your food afterwards when the movie starts and you can skip the line too 6) There are very few grass seat spots to snag 7) Buy tickets via GroupOn or Living Social, such a deal 8) It's a fun night and we Californians are spoilt to be able to do movie nights outdoors all summer long :D read more

Absolutely, loved being here tonight!!! The whole entire staff is amazing and goes out of there way to help you out. Instead of telling you where the bathroom is they just walk you there personally. Plus, all the food trucks had such a variety, they had a band, and then the best part of all, the movie! I was expecting the sound to be so - so but it was straight up like personal Bose headphones! And there wasn't a single glitch in the movie. I will most definitely be going to way more of these! They even had dog treats for your furry friend with water bowls all around. The movie selection is pretty stellar and it's a good wide range. For $10 (with a deal site of course), you get a movie, concert, and food options. I'm Asian-food-centric. What do I always want to eat? Asian food. Always wanted to go to movies and have the option to eat Asian food or at least fried food or something bad but yummy. The only ding from my experience is that there weren't as much food options as I would have liked and the lines were kinda long. I liked the indie concerts. Movie quality is as good as to be expected from my experience with outdoor movies. Do note "alcohol is prohibited in all City and State Parks, as well as at any school." So there you go. Parking? Also terrible so get there early or Lyft or Uber or whatnot. read more

My husband and I brought our 6 month old and five year old to see the sandlot. Our littles were free and we used groupon for tickets, for all four of us it was eleven dollars! Such a steal. Parking is free and easy to get to the front gates. The line was quick and organized. There were so many food truck to order dinner from or you could bring your own goodies! My kids had the best time and so did my husband and I. We also enjoyed looking around the autry museum. I can't wait to go to another event! read more

The only reason to get there very early would be if you're using Eat See Hear as a drive-in; you want a good spot for your car, so you can see. For those of us who already spend too much time in our cars and don't want to be in one for a second longer, you can bring picnic blankets/beach chairs/bean bags/etc. and sprawl out on a big spread of astroturf. Feel the breeze, stretch your legs, be out of your damn cars, Angelinos. My friend and I caught "Boogie Nights" up on the top of a building at LATTC, downtown. Overall, the event had the feel of something where the kinks weren't *quite* worked out yet: you could get in via multiple staircases, meaning you could sneak in without a ticket, the projector took quite a while to focus and sync, delaying the start of the movie, and the live music, while nice, was a duo with an acoustic guitar who seemed very out of place at such a large venue on such a giant stage. None of those detracted from what was an overall fun evening: sitting out in the open air (I can't say fresh air. This was downtown), chatting with nearby strangers, perusing what the food trucks offered and eating Coolhaus sandwiches (you can bring your own food, too), plus watching a movie I don't think I'd ever expected to watch on a giant outdoor screen (to the person/s who brought a three year-old: WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?). Ok, so there was a guy near us wooooo!ing at the screen and whatnot, but it was BYOB, so what do you want. Other movies might be more appropriate for kids (say, "Elf"), and there's plenty of space to run around and stretch while waiting for the sun to set for kids, adults (people were jumping around playing catch) and dogs, too: I love that these events are not just dog-friendly, but downright welcoming: free biscuits at the ticket tables, water bowls around, and even portable patches of grass and plastic bags for doggie restrooms. Speaking of restrooms, I was afraid we'd be stuck with port-a-potties, and was pleasantly surprised that LATTC was actually letting us use their restrooms. Parking was easy to get in and out of, for those of us not watching the movie from our cars, and was free, too. There's a Metro stop nearby if you'd prefer to be environmentally sound and take the train. Eat See Hear moves around LA, so I can't vouch for other locations, but as the events get more organized, they are only going to increase in coolness. Eat See Hear is one of the many companies that organizes outdoor movie screenings in the summer. DJs, bands, food trucks, the whole shebang. I had a really great time seeing JAWS at the Autry Museum last weekend in Los Feliz, but it wasn't until I saw Bridesmaids at Exposition Park put on by a different company, Street Food Cinema, that I realized what ESH was lacking. My friend and I arrived right when the doors opened at 5:30, but the field was already packed with people and their dogs. The dog to people ratio was about 3:1. I have nothing against dogs in general, but when space is tight to begin with, and you're sitting on the ground trying to have a picnic, people were very inconsiderate of their pets and dogs were running rampant all over our things. Not everyone loves your dog as much as you do! It's just unsanitary, and no owner apologized or even seemed to care. You also weren't supposed to have tall camping chairs in the middle of the field, just the smaller beach chairs, so everyone on blankets could see, but of course no one cared about that either and no one was there to enforce it. A party of 6 drunk people came and wedged themselves in front of us and put up a wall of chairs so we had a hard time seeing the entire movie. Getting out of the parking lot was a disaster, no one was directing traffic or monitoring the cross walk, so the cars trying to exit had to wait for every last pedestrian to leave the field before they could drive away because no one was letting the cars go and people were walking every which way in the the middle of the street. In theory it's a great event, there just didn't seem to be any staff moderating any of the problems that are bound to arise when you have hundreds of people in a public place... read more

So far I've been to two different EAT SEE HEAR events. I went to the drive-in at LA Trade Tech College for "Boogie Nights" and then later saw "Pulp Fiction" with them at LA State Historic Park. For both events I bought tickets through Goldstar. There was a slight hiccup with the drive-in event because I assumed, since it's a drive-in movie, that the "general admission" tickets that we bought on GS (there was only the one option) was for driving in with a car. Turns out that was not the case; you can actually park elsewhere and just walk in with blankets/folding chairs and sit at the very front of the parking area to watch the movie. Well, we were already in our car and had planned to watch from the car, so my friend Jin C. and I both had to pay $10 extra each to have the full drive-in movie experience. So just keep that in mind if you are going to be attending a drive-in movie through EAT SEE HEAR (although I must say that Goldstar's customer service is outstanding). With the second event Gardenia H. and I took the metro there (since the park is about a block away from the Chinatown Gold Line Station) so we didn't have to worry about parking. Oh, FYI, if you were like me and thought that buying at the door would save you the service charge fee you have to pay if you buy the tickets online, you would be wrong. Gardenia bought her ticket at the door and ended up having to pay that extra fee anyway. So might as well buy your tickets online! Venue-wise, I preferred LATTC because it was clean (and you get a beautiful view of DTLA). Apparently there was some music festival at LA State Historic Park before our movie screening so the entire area was full of dirt and dead grass. It was a bit windy while we were there so we kept on getting dirt and dead grass on EVERYTHING (blankets, clothes, food, etc). That was not pleasant -_- Looking at other reviews, it seems like if you bought a ticket through their website you got an email the day before warning about the dirt/dead grass. Unfortunately the same did not go for those who purchased their tickets on Goldstar. Like their name implies, in addition to the movie there is also music and food. I liked both bands that played at the two events, although to be honest I didn't pay too much attention to either one (and I can't remember what either of them were called ^^#). And there were plentiful food trucks. Definitely more food trucks at the park though, and PopChips was also there giving away free bags of their new flavours. That was cool :) Jin and I brought our own food to the drive-in movie but Gardenia H. and I bought food from The Bun Truck at LASHP. Boogie Nights went off without a hitch, but Pulp Fiction had some problems. Gardenia and I got there early and for several hours the screen had no problem staying fully inflated and showing whatever was being projected. But then once the movie started, it started slowly deflating. Not only did the movie start late, but the staff took a while to react to the deflating screen. In the end it was fine since they were able to inflate the screen back to normal and restart the movie, but I thought they could have done it faster or at least have addressed the crowd to let us know what was going on. Apart from that though, the screening was fine. If you haven't gone to outdoor movie screenings before or ever been to a drive-in movie, I recommend checking out EAT SEE HEAR's events since they are cool experiences to have. Having now done both, though, I'm happy to check them off and stay in the comfort of my own home (or a movie theatre) from now on. read more

Just went to my first Eat See Hear event with some friends last night (in Santa Monica) and have to say it was a let down. It's a great concept, but unfortunately the execution was less than spectacular. Maybe we got off on the wrong foot, because from the start the customer service of the staff was some of the worst I've seen. We got there early, around 6PM and there was a line to the street already. I walked to the front like some others just to see if there was a separate line for the people who print and buy tickets ahead of time (like I did). And was embarrassed by the guy at front after I posed my question by him literally screaming his answer sarcastically so everyone could hear, that the line was "for everyone, whether you have a ticket or not!" using my question as an example to others who dare to approach out of turn. 20 minutes later I reached the registration tables where the rudest girl I've ever met asked for our tickets. She was condescending and rude to start, and then physically grabbed my wrist and yanked it closer to her because she apparently needed it an exact distance from her to secure my wristband even though I had it extended out for her to put it on. The girl standing next to her witnessed the situation and 'took over' our check in process but no one apologized for her behavior. I've spent a lot of years in hospitality businesses and it is NEVER ok to grab a customer or touch them for any reason in an aggressive manner. My friends were shocked (and I was fuming) but we tried to let it go and enjoy the night. The movie was great, the cramped spacing with tons of dogs and people spilling your drink or stepping on cupcakes (yup that happened) as they walk through the amphitheater was tolerable. Overall, I had hoped for a carefree, LA evening outdoors and instead felt like I bought into a gimmick and spent most of my time in long food truck lines, lines to enter and lines to leave. read more
