This venue was recommended by a friend and I had some doubts just because of the name. My doubts came true..... Anyhow - my first impression: When you enter the room it looks very clean. Green colours. Floor in dark wood, Tables also. Walls fresh green and an overall positive look. Really. The restrooms are also clean, and so - I would expect - is also the kitchen. We ordered the "all you can eat" Sushi plate - which comes with a starter - either a soup, small Chicken Teriyaki or small spring rolls. My soup consisted of nothing else but Glutamate and some pressed/minced crab meat and atomized salmon. Not that I would expect that from a Japanese kitchen. The plate of Sushi was huge and looked very good. Some of them are really tasty. Especially those with the fried Salmon Skin inside. Now the downside of it all: The rice was warm and so the fish. This took out the complete freshness of Sushi. Something that I would not expect. Either they started to cook the rice too late or they ran out of rice before we arrived - which I do not think - as we were the second people entering the room. Also the waiter service was not very fast. The Waitress was friendly - yes - but lame. Really lame. Aaaah. Snail service would be the right expression. I like "Slow food" - but hate "Slow Service". While the soup was tasteful (yes you can mess up this dish too..) the batter of the tempura was doughy and tasted greasy. The edamame was a pretty small portion, were served on a plate thus they got cold instantly. The Hoso tuna pikant was not "spicy tuna", but somewhat boring. The Ura eel roll had lots of rice and little fish to it. At least the the nigiri of tuna, yellow tail and salmon were fresh but tiny for the price. The waitress was attentive at the beginning and offered an English menu but forgot to bring me my second beer later. Their ordering system is a check-off sheet that the guest fills in, at least this avoids the potential misunderstandings. We paid 75 € for a basic sushi dinner with mixed quality, so I award 2 stars. The venue is smaller than the location in Erlangen, but has also a Terrace with some places outside. It seems to be less frequented than the place in Erlangen and so this could be my favourite one. It is located within a Startup-Center (Medical Valley) and therefore the parking lot should be large enough on weekends ;-) We entered for Lunch and all of us ordered a Bento Box with some warm food and also Sushi. We had three times the roasted Duck Teryaki, Salad and some Sushi, one time with Sake (Salmon) Teryaki and same setup with Sushi and Salad. This comes with Miso soup before and if you like, some japanese Dessert. The room is dark furnitured and very "schlicht" - so without the "kitsch" you would find in a f.i. Chinese restaurant. Anyhow. The waiter service was outstanding quick, friendly and.... we would say - nearly perfect. The complete service team was authentic asian - another plus (but I bet these guys were from Vietnam or so). The food was served quickly. It was utmost tasty and I would say you can order anything and all offers a wonderful visual and sensual experience. The Dessert - small pancakes with sweet beans as filling - could have been made different. That was the only thing I would not order again. But hey. This place is a kind of medium. The sushi is freshly made when you order it, the quality and taste is excellent & it's pretty damn cheap (which is a plus)! Sure, we're not talking top-notch grade A sushi here... but you'll definitely not find anything even close to it price-wise! I had the running sushi deal here which is all you can eat from 18:00 to 22:30 every evening excluding on their break days. The price was a humble 16,90 € which is okay considering you can stay all evening. First thing to mention is they have huge selection of sushi flavors and types and different meals, more than I've seen at other running sushi restaurants. They had fried noodles, ribs, duck, and seafood such as oysters and shrimp. The quality of all the meals were very good! I tried almost one of everything and I was actually surprised of how good it all was. There is a complimentary miso soup as well but you've gotta ask for it to get it. Kyoto had a large amount of desert options, including watermelon, pineapple, fruit cocktail, chocolate and vanilla pudding, lychees, fried banana, chocolate coated banana slices and other items as well. The waiting staff was friendly and kind, didn't give off any mean vibes. Bathrooms were good and clean. The whole restaurant was clean. I especially liked how most meals were covered with a plastic cover on the running sushi to protect them against insects and "splash" sneezing or coughing. There is no accessible parking though from what I could tell! So I suggest coming with public transport. I am very surprised at this place! It is a good running sushi spot with enough seating for groups big and small. I am completely satisfied with Kyoto.
