Unfortunately, the church was locked and secure on this Saturday afternoon so I was only able to see the grounds. The marker reads, "This church was founded in 1837 as Mt. Olivet Methodist Episcopal Church, South. Original trustees were Joseph Critchlow, John Hay, Benjamin Johnson, Benjamin King, John Matthews, Phillip Owen, and Nathaniel Owen. Originally, the church was located on Williams Road on land purchased in 1839 from John Hay and Samuel Bittick. In 1858, the congregation moved to the Nolensville Turnpike about one-half mile south of this site. The second church building was heavily damaged during the Civil War. On September 14, 1894, land was purchased here and this building, with its tall steeple and church bell which is rung every Sunday morning, was erected. Over time, stained glass windows were installed in memory of faithful members." It was erected in 1997 by the Williamson County Historical Society. My wife and I have been going to Southpointe for over four years or more and have always enjoyed Matt and Daryl's message of the day. No one is there to hold your hand and guide you to the sanctuary but it really isn't hard to find. When you walk in, its on the right past the coffee/greeting area. Plus, there is always someone at the front of the sanctuary to say hi, shake your hand, and open the door for you. The worship is always solid and I love the monthly communion and daily repentance. After searching for churches and leaving Belmont Church years ago, my wife and I found the spirit of God again here at Southpointe. I'm not the most outgoing person and usually sit on the back rows, but I've been waved to, greeted, and have shaken hands with numerous members over the years. In fact before every sermon starts, the pastor advises his congregation to greet one another. So, for all purposes of this church being a fake, it's not. The message is Christ centered, the people are honest about their own struggles (even pastors), and it has made me want to be closer to God and be an example for my family.

The man was a faithful tither and gave 10s of thousands to this church; he never missed tithing to the church and he NEVER missed opportunity to serve- Apparently he was deluded in thinking he was "loved and valued". You'd think that was true with the tears shed by a few of its members at his funeral. However, when his/our children requested in writing multiple times, his charitable donations to the church, NONE of the pastors responded. The senior pastor ignored any requests and so did his junior pastors to aid my children in getting the man's taxes done. In fact NOT ONE of the pastors have reached out to see how things were going for his children; if they could help in any way or just to say 'hey we're praying for you" as you work to get your dad's estate settled. Oh no, their full MAGA hats have been on display. Word to those folks of color, go ahead and bypass this one. They are clearly evangelical Trumpers with a heart for nobody but their coffers.

When volunteering at "The Big Table" I overheard a couple on leadership say, "who is that" instead of introducing themselves and welcoming me. They help homeless people on a weekly basis but not someone who has been attending for months. Christ Jesus and the Scripture I read would not reject, betray, judge nor view disabled seniors as outcasts. Distant friends from another state are completely flabbergasted at the lack of assistance and acceptance Journey has provided to a child of God.

But the vision of the church became incredibly social justice minded. Many believe this is important in the role of the church.
