I loved the ambiance and decor of the restaurant. Would be great for a nice birthday party. The service was wonderful here. Friendly and efficient. Fresh fish was so delicious! The only think I didn't like was the chicken karaage which I was burping up afterward. Didn't sit well.

Came here at around 5:30 pm on a Saturday and we got a table of three immediately. The interior is pretty spacious with a bright ambiance and cute decor everywhere. I really wanted to try some different sushi options this time as I only got a taste from their handroll last time. Miso Soup - Simple and a classic. It was a little pricey but it is what you expect it to be. Salmon Nigiri Tasting - This came with five pieces which included salmon, smoked salmon and ikura where I was excited to try their salmon after having it last time. The classic salmon was fresh and tasty like last time but the smoked salmon added a nice smokiness and melt in mouth texture that I enjoyed. Mummy Roll (Hamachi Lover) - The roll stood out to me from the menu because of the yuzu spicy hamachi which packed a savory and sour flavor. It was crunchy, fresh and creamy all at once. Other dishes we got at the table was a sashimi salad which was really refreshing with a sour yuzu sauce and thin sliced sashimi assortment as well as a chirashi where the tuna was the star. From the drinks to food to service, we enjoyed the ambiance as well as trying many more diverse dishes from the menu.

Slightly bougier than average sushi place. Everything was extremely flavorful and tasty. Cute decor as well. Definitely recommend the pork katsu curry! The rolls were tasty and come in 8 pieces. Definitely great late night food spot as well!

Loved this place! Stopped by for dinner before our reservations at an escape room nearby and it was so good! The place is so cute and the servers were so nice, we came at a later time 8:30 but they were so accommodating and they gave us free Veggie gyoza. I recommended it to everyone even my relatives who live in south Bay lol.

The salmon ikura don was a bit pricy for 4 pieces of salmon and ikura for $28. It was yummy though and generous amount of wasabi. Just wish there were more salmon. The pork katsu curry was very generous thick cut pork pieces, breaded well but the pork was a little tough/overcooked but understandable since we did a takeout order to picnic at Dolores Park. The curry was flavorful with spices, the rice was cooked perfectly. Friendly staff for prompt pickup.

I always love a late night option on Valencia for sushi! I've heard about the curry at this spot from a coworker and wanted to try it out. I went with a couple of friends and we were seated relatively quickly considering the dinner rush, which surprised me vs having to wait it out for a spot. The interior is a blend of styles with some variation in seating options. Loved the homemade ginger ale, but fair warning: stir it really well! When it arrived, the bottom was pure ginger and the top was just fizzy water. For my main, I got the pork katsu curry. The curry itself was very flavorful, and has to go with the rice. I was a little disappointed with the katsu. The pork was juicy, but the breading wasn't as crispy as I would have liked. My friend ordered the salmon chazuke, which looked absolutely amazing. I'm definitely going to try that next time! I wasn't sure what to expect for the prices, but the portion sizes were on the generous side, and we had to to-go part of the food. The service was friendly, with only some trouble getting our bill at the end of the meal.

I have to admit I was rather disappointed with this new Japanese spot on Valencia. Having taken over the former Borderlands bookstore, the owners definitely refreshed the space with a contemporary cross between a French cottage and a Japanese kissaten. The menu was extensive, though price points were on the high side even for the Mission. Naturally that amped up my expectations of the quality of the food. Toward that end, it was a hit-or-miss affair. I don't know what triggered it, but service was strangely off here. I first ordered the $19.50 Duck Breast Goat Cheeses, which sounded like a small duck salad, but it never came. I didn't question it because the other dishes were arriving in random order. By the time I finished the meal, I didn't want it anymore, and it didn't show up on the check. Like I never ordered it. Hmm. I also ordered the $20.50 Hamaichi Kama which unfortunately arrived overcooked and dry (photo: https://yelp.to/zHUqCA38GF). As I picked at it, the $15.50 Green Bites arrived. It was billed as three tastes of vegetarian bites. No argument about that. It turned out to be blistered shishito peppers, salted edamame, and fried tofu cubes with a bit of aioli on the side (photo: https://yelp.to/TMXgk_PbFc). Fresh but rather bland. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Things finally turned around with the hand rolls. Here is where they finally excelled for me. I had two. The first was the $15.50 Salmon Ikura with shiso (photo: https://yelp.to/iaNAjYTUOE). It was genuinely fresh and overflowing with fresh salmon roe (photo). The second was the $17.50 Uni Hotate which combined creamy Santa Barbara sea urchin with a Hokkaido scallop (photo: https://yelp.to/YkVAiuqzW0). There was real finesse in the way the hand rolls were assembled, and the flavors reflected that. Perhaps I should restrict myself to sashimi the next time I come here. I guess I can forgive them for the duck oversight, but I think they should pay more attention to the kama when it's on the grill. FOOD - 3 stars...the hand rolls was the saving grace among a series of disappointments AMBIANCE - 4 stars...the decor was a nice fusion of cultures SERVICE - 2.5 stars...kinda erratic TOTAL - 3 stars...stick with the hand rolls RELATED - Exploring the Mission? I appreciate that there is a sushi place open up late on weekdays! My friends and I were wrapping up a night event and needed a place to eat at for dinner. Luckily, we were able to be seated and accommodated right away. The interior of the restaurant is very pretty and nicely decorated, so we took some time to absorb the atmosphere before we ordered. Their menu has a variety of options, which made it difficult to decide on what to order. Everyone ordered something different and we were able to try each other's food. I ordered the Passionfruit Lemonade, Hamachi Carpaccio, Zombie Chef Roll, and Salmon Tasting to share with my boyfriend. The lemonade was sweet and refreshing, you can tell that it was homemade. The carpaccio was delicious, especially with the truffle oil. The roll was okay, it didn't really blow our minds like the carpaccio did. Lastly, the salmon tasting was delicious, but it made us realize we're not that big fans of Ikura. The servers were nice and very attentive to our table! I would definitely want to come back to try out the rest of their menu

I dined here with a group of friends on a weekday evening. This place was fairly empty aside from 2 other parties, yet service was very slow. It took ~20 minutes for a staff to eventually come and take our order. The sushi here is not worth it. I ordered a fire tuna roll, and it was such a tiny roll! The fish quality was mediocre at best. The roll also had a handful of green onions sprinkled on top, which was not mentioned anywhere on the menu as an ingredient. I have a food intolerance to green onions, so I would've asked for no green onions had I known. I even purposely chose a roll that didn't mention "green onions" on the menu because I noticed some rolls listed green onions as an ingredient. My roll also arrived on the same plate as a roll that someone else in my group ordered. But we weren't seated next to each other, so I had to manually move my roll over to another plate myself. I tasted a piece of the katsu curry that a friend ordered, and it was just okay. The meat quality wasn't good because it was too chewy. I prefer the katsu curry at another restaurant around 1 mile north of this place. It's a shame I didn't have a great experience here because I've walked by this place so many times before and was really curious about trying it after seeing the menu items and how nicely decorated the interior is. Sadly, things looked better than they tasted here.

It's just mid. I've had a lot of tonkatsu in Japan. You don't need to necessarily have super high quality pork to taste good. The two most important things are really just the breading and the sauce. I think this place falls through on both categories. The sauce is a bit too sweet, not enough acidity for the tonkatsu, and would be better if they just had bottled sauce from the Japanese supermarket. The breading is thin, kind of gelatinous, and doesn't have enough air. For $22.50 for tonkatsu, I didn't really feel like I enjoyed it. It lacked the right taste. I would recommend Curry Hyuga over this place.

My favorite Japanese for food and vibes. Echigos reminds me of cafes in Japan decor wise which is a vibe you don't usually get in Japanose places in the Bay. The fish is impeccable but the star for me is their udon dishes. Both the mentaiko udon and the lobster udon are my favorite noodle dishes of all time in SF. Also love their ochazukes. Haven't had a bad thing here. I also like their coconut hojicha. Very underrated imo, but the perfect chill place to have a date or a date with girlfriends.

I dined here with my partner for a special occasion and wasted my time and money. I'd seen reviews praising the food but warning about poor service. As someone in the service industry, I came in with grace--but our experience was worse than expected. We ordered the five-piece omakase for its highlights: uni, scallop, and A5 wagyu. It took nearly 50 minutes to arrive--before our appetizers (which never came)--and without any notice, the uni and scallops were substituted!!! When I raised the issue, the server seemed confused and said, "We gave you two more fish. What's the problem?" The sushi chef echoed the same and acted annoyed I was upset that I did not want his substituted fish. Only after pushing did he suddenly produce a scallop--after claiming they were out. I cannot understand why 2 out of the 5 pieces listed on their Omakase set was out and replaced without any notice. The wagyu? According to my partner, the worst he's ever had. When we asked about our appetizers, the server asked if we still wanted them--another 50-minute wait wasn't an option at that point. This was one of the most disappointing meals we've had, both in quality and experience. I actually reached out to the business to give direct feedback rather than posting it online, but they never responded to me. I do hope they improve their service because we both left completely upset with what we had experienced. Such a shame for a new business.

Found a newer spot to order some late night sushi delivery. I've ordered here 2 times now and their sushi has been nothing short of fresh. They have a bunch of "Buy 1 get 1 free" deals and my favorite is the fried tofu. Its lightly salted with peppers and served with a nice side of mayo. My orders have been the Echigo 49er Roll, Salmon Lover Roll, Flying Dragon Roll, Cow Hollow Roll, Flaming Roaring Tiger Roll. Each have been tasty and at a fair price. Although the karaage was fresh I wish it was a bit more breaded and marinated a bit like some other places. Regardless I will be trying more rolls and items here! Also, they have great sustainable packaging with amazing presentation. Not the usual black and clear plastic containers or circular smoked containers here. They have small thank you stickers on the openings of the containers which are a nice touch. Lastly, they staple their delivery orders! A secured bag makes me more inclined to order knowing it's safe in transit

The restaurant can be a little hidden, but it's pretty easy to find with the instructions they send before your reservation. It's located above Fermentation Lab. When you arrive, walk through the Yuji curtain and check in directly with the chef since there is no host. My biggest concern with set menus is always whether I'll feel satisfied and full afterward, but that was definitely not an issue here. My husband and I were both very satisfied after the meal. Every dish was delicious, and you could really taste the quality of each ingredient. Highlights for me were the bluefin sashimi, which was so buttery and soft that it literally melted in your mouth. The skillfish was rich and decadent, and the citrus and ginger balanced the flavors. The fried fish was another favorite as it reminded me of the savory Japanese rice crackers I loved growing up. Oma San Francisco Station is an omakase restaurant inside Japan Center in San Francisco Japantown…read more They offer 3 menus: Mizuho with 24 items, Sakura with 16, and Tsubame with 12. The location is unusual, as the restaurant is open to the mall, which is a bit disruptive. I came for the 8:30pm seating, but the previous guests were still finishing, so I had to wait until 8:45pm. The staff did not seem very concerned. Bad start. You could also hear the mall cleaning crew during dinner, which was not very pleasant. I ordered the 24-item Mizuho Menu, as did all the other guests. There were 5 guests in total (the restaurant can seat up to 8 people). Here is the menu I was served at the end of May: 1. starter: ama ebi cracker with caviar, pickled lotus root with shaved bonito, crab salad 2. nigiri 4x: isaki, iwana, myabi tai, kanpachi 3. sashimi: chutoro, hotate with caviar, umi masu, sawada 4. nigiri 8x: hirame, suzuki, inada, kurodai, shima aji, kamasu, otoro, aged A5 wagyu, kinmedai 5. hot dish: miso soup with inari and shrimp head, hokkaido uni with marinated ikura, black cod, umi masu with raw yellow egg and caviar 6. dessert: matcha ice cream with strawberry Frankly, the food was excellent. The starter was not very creative, but the nigiri were great. The sashimi selection was very nice, with some fish you do not see as often in omakase menus, such as isaki, iwana, and myabi tai, a kind of tai. Sawada was delicious and is always a good inclusion. We asked for some wasabi and received a small cup of kizami wasabi, a chopped wasabi with a slightly crunchy texture, which was a nice touch. For the nigiri, all the classics of a good omakase were present: otoro, kinmedai, shima aji, uni, hotate, and wagyu. Kamasu was also included, and it is one of my favorite fish. It is also worth noting that they age both their beef and their tuna, including the otoro that was served. A few pieces were torched, maybe a few too many. Overall, the service was not memorable, although chef Ron Au was friendly and nice. The place itself felt a bit questionable, and my expectations were not very high after the beginning of the meal. But the food was truly excellent, and for that reason I think it deserves 5 stars.

It's in a part of japantown which feels a bit open (which I think is part of the vibe and definitely really fun. We got the 24 piece course which is a Lot Of Food,, and we were the only people there which was really cute. They split across more traditional nigiri dishes and some cooked dishes. The highlight was the second batch of nigiri dishes but I don't remember the exact fish. I will say that of all the omakase places I've been to, its not the best on my list so i'm curious what other places look like, but it's a really special and unique experience! My ONE GRIPE (actually there are a few) but the smoked salmon they served didn't have some of the pinbones removed which is a HUGE FUCKING NONO. i'm just putting it here because as a small institution it's important to support but there were 3 bones which was a :////

We were seated at the bar area since the tables were occupied. The waitress was very quick and fast, setting us up with waters and chopsticks. Sushi is plated and charged by the color of the plate- blue is their most pricier options, which I got a lot of so I had stop eating that option, and I went for yellow or orange! Sushi was fresh, I am a Saba fan so that's what I mostly ate. Uni was fresh, and Amaebi was good. Overall, if you want something fast, the wait wasn't long, (of course it'll change on the weekend) times would be long because of the seating, try this place out! We will be back!

It was hard not to grab a bunch of plates since the sushi tasted very fresh and there was a ton of variety going around. I got a mix of rolls and a Sapporo, which paired perfectly. Staff was quick and efficient, even with how crowded it was. Prices were also very affordable for sushi, especially considering the quality. Solid spot if you want fresh conveyor belt sushi without paying too much.
