She doesn't over enthusiastically start shaving to the point of no return. Instead, she's more conservative cutting since I wasn't exactly sure what would fit, She did not mind one bit as she cut, recut, and recut again to get the right length. I HATE HAIRCUTS!!! About as much as Dogs hate baths, conservatives hate Obama, and Locals hate Gentrification. I never go to the same hair place twice because it's always a terrible experience. There's always a hair stylist who likes to talk too much. They ask so many questions about my job and no matter how many one word answers I give they don't get the hint. Eventually they start telling me about their babies. Oh boy! But I do love Floyd's and that awful place in Los Feliz with the orange paint because it keeps hipsters from discovering this place. And if you don't like this place, that's just fine with me. Since I discovered this place I have not gone anywhere else. If the place is closed I don't get a haircut, period! I was home in LA for a few days, and normally I get my hair cut at a barber up in Pasadena. They were closed, and I was extremely reluctant to experiment with another barber in LA, as most seemed to be all too earnest to advertise their fades. I decided on this place, I'm not sure why, it may have been the pretty colors painted on the store front. But I was not disappointed. Had to wait a bit when I got there as he seemed to be out to lunch. But persistence paid off and I was first in line for the afternoon cuts. First of all, as the other reviewers mention, this place is borderline squalid, but in such a way as make it feel more charming than insalubrious. I'm not delivering a baby in here so whatever. I am not sure what the barber's name is, as he didn't seem to be into pleasantries, and the haircut got underway pretty quickly. When it was just me and him in the place, it was already starting to feel a bit crowded, what with the mirrored walls making it seem like we were with 6 other guys in a closet. And once another patron arrived, it was pretty awkward since the "waiting area" is a chair facing the barber's chair. But damn, that man cut the shit out of my hair. Meticulous attention to detail, no sloppy chopping, and a really professional job on the back of the neck with the straight edge. Probably one of the top 5 haircuts I've ever had. There was nothing fancy to it, and you get the sense that the cuts are really consistent, which is important. At $8, I was a bit shocked, and felt kind of cheap. And even with a $5 tip, it was still uncomfortably cheap. In a good way. 5 stars! read more

I've been living in downtown for almost 6 months and have always waited to go back home to my regular stylist even when I went to school 2 hours away. However that's not always convenient. Backstory- I haven't been to a new barber/salon in about 10 years and was in desperate need of a clean-up. After some quick browsing of local shops, I decided I'd bite the bullet and give someone else a shot at my hair. This place stood out among a few others and I just went for it. I am pretty picky with how my hair is cut since I have multiple cowlicks and very thick hair. I walked in expecting a line- no line. I barely had to show some examples of how I wanted it and some pretty basic descriptions of extra detail and the lady knew almost exactly what I wanted. For a random first time walk-in, I got an impressive modern cut, no wait time, and a sigh of relief. I was only charged $10 but was very happy about the whole process so I js had to give a nice tip as well. Apparently it's busier in the mornings, but I came in at 5 with no wait. There was no one in the place when I arrived and no one waiting after me, but she felt the need to rush the cut so she could get back to her tv show. My husband has been going to this barbershop for the past year and a half. Cecilia cuts his hair. She is very careful and precise and does great, straightforward men's haircuts for...$8.00. It honestly could pass for a $40 haircut, but at $8 a pop, it's actually reasonable to go in once a month. (With tip, he usually pays $10, but still, a bargain). Plus, Cecilia is very friendly and welcoming -- I have stopped in and chatted with her several times myself. Good haircuts, good conversation, great prices. They take drop-ins, and the wait is generally no more than 10 minutes. It's true that the shop is tiny and a little cluttered, but all the haircutting tools are very clean and sterile. And this shop has the most eclectic musical selection -- they literally play everything from reggaeton to opera. This place is truly a family operation -- hopefully it will be around for many more years! read more

This barbershop is a local barbershop that I enjoyed(I'll explain later) going to for several reasons. First of, there are only 2 chairs there manned by two older latino men. Like the first reviewer said, this is a local shop with mostly latino patrons but both barbers speak spanish and english. They have pictures on the wall just in case you need help in explaining the style you want. The atmosphere is very friendly and family like. The barbers and customers talk as if old friends. Second, the barbers take their time in cutting your hair. They seem to have been cutting hair for a while because I have yet to complain on the numerous cuts I've gotten. This shop also uses a straight razor and hot foam to clean up the sideburns and fuzz the clipper cant get to. Third, the price is the lowest I've seen any barbershop charges in the vicinity and in recent memory. All of this for $8.00 without the tip. Now the bad news. This shop is no longer around. I can only assume to what happened. Maybe both barbers retired or they lost their lease on the place due to higher rents in the area. I'm really saddened to have lost this little gem of a barbershop in my neighborhood. Hopefully, I can find one like it soon. read more

The Barber is so SLOW, not because he is trying to detail your hair, its because the mans pretty old. I wasn't happy with my cut ( I asked for a fade), I was planning to get something other than a fade, but thats his,"specialty". This is the perfect place to go for a simple, no-frills, traditional haircut for a reasonable price ($8). The barber was very friendly and gave me exactly the haircut I asked for, and even shaved the edges with a straight razor. I just moved to the area from a small town where I had been going to the same barber shop my whole life and paying $12 and I was shocked by the $30+ prices at most of the other places around here--must be the hipsters. one of the worst haircuts of my husband's life. it was the daughter cutting his hair. the transition from the shorter sides of his head to the longer on the top was atrocious: uneven, boxy and with huge chunks missing. there were also spots that didn't seem to be cut at all. when he tried to give feedback it just made it worse, so he eventually said nothing, paid and then left cussing all the way to our car. we then went to larchmont barber to fix it, he never should have strayed from them. echo barber is also very dirty and very cluttered. the barber very quickly rinsed the scissors and clippers under a faucet to clean them. when she handed him the mirror to look at himself, it was covered with hair. normally he wouldn't care about the size of a barbershop but this place is so small that when another person came in to wait, my husband and him were basically sitting in each other's laps. you get what you pay for and you pay for what you get. read more
