Special of the day- tuna poke bowl
    Patricia M.

First off, we had a beautiful table by the window overlooking the beach. Nisshie was our server and she was spot on. Service was perfect. We started with the ahi tuna nachos and they were quite good. It was also a good size for 3 of us. My husband ordered the seafood Cobb salad which he said he would definitely get again. It had a lot of smoked salmon and shrimp. My daughter and I ordered the special of the day which was a tuna poke bowl. Lots of tuna, mango, edamame, cabbage, ginger and thin strips of jalapeño. We appreciated that the wasabi was presented in a separate container and not mixed into the bowl. Our only complaint was the rice was very overcooked and had zero seasoning. The restaurant itself was bright and cheery. We will definitely be returning.

    Gary's delicious nachos!!

During our recent visit, we ate breakfast, lunch and dinner at Echo. Everything was absolutely delicious. I need to give a special shout out to Gary at the poolside grill. His nachos were the bomb. If I could give more stars, I would. Ever meal was perfection!!

I went to Echo when visiting my in-laws during a SSI trip. I was excited to try since I heard the restaurant was in a nice hotel and was pretty inside. There seems to be three separate sections of Echo- there is the outside patio with fire pits, the inside that is open like a hotel lobby, and then there is a large room with dining tables. We were seated in the large room. Service was good- I didn't have any complaints. Attentive but not overbearing. Friendly. The food itself- the presentation was fantastic but the taste was a bit too salty. For everything. A lot of us in our party ate what we could and didn't bother to take any leftovers home. I may go back to give it another chance. I wanted to love it. Maybe it was just a bad day.

The tuna nachos were good, but the breaded flounder was okay. Wished I chose something else. It was the special for the day. The service was cool, no complaints. I sat outside with a great view of the beach. Overall this is not a bad place to have something to eat or drink.

Beautiful restaurant overlooking the ocean! Service was a little slow but acceptable. Breakfast was part of our room package and was delicious both days.

I was visiting St. Simon's Island and really wanted to get some coffee by the beach, and this was the only restaurant I could find that was actually on the water. I didn't realize until I arrived that it's in a beautiful hotel. The first morning I came by myself and worked. The hostess was so sweet and helpful. And my server was great, as well. The coffee was mediocre (I know they use Wake Up Coffee Co, which is great coffee, but it seemed like maybe it was weak or their coffee machine needed cleaning). I ordered the island breakfast scramble, and it was great. I liked this place so much that I brought my mom the next morning! The second day, it was a little too warm to eat outside, but we did it anyways. We split the island breakfast scramble and an omelette- both were great - but the best thing we ordered was the grits!! My mom thought they were too creamy and that there weren't enough grits, but I absolutely loved them. They might be my favorite grits ever! One caveat- one of our friends came for dinner that weekend and ordered a shrimp salad. She did get food poisoning. Definitely worth noting, but that wasn't our experience with Echo!

I was wondering how a beachfront restaurant that looked this nice only had 3 stars, but most of the reviews were about the service or the weakness of the cocktails. So worth a try. Found out that overall 3 stars is correct. The clam spaghettini and the vegetables had not a touch of salt. Like eating plain rice. My Halibut special was really good. The porkchops looked good and no complaints. The filet mignon looked like a big hamburger patty. Strange. The food left a lot to desire. Service was fine. The food just.... wasn't. We got a side of scallops and those were cooked well and delicious. It was hit or miss it seems. They went 3 for 6. Not too good.

We went out for a Mommy/Daughter Date Night and enjoyed the breezy afternoon (Tropical Storm brought some rains and we took our dinner inside midway) Wait was 45 minutes but didn't feel that long with some drinks in hand and a live band. My picky tween loves the chicken Alfredo. I enjoyed the comfort of mashed potatoes and a roast.

One piece of advice.....stay away from the scallops. Worst scallops I've ever had. Ordered them grilled but they looked like they had been boiled and covered with heavy spice.....terrible! Stellar cocktails, friendly service, great views, modern design aesthetic, and incredible food. My only gripe is that they do not take reservations, though even on a Friday night, I've been able to get seated within 20-30 minutes, and you can always grab a drink from the bar and hang out on the lawn while you wait. This most recent visit, I started with the seafood chowder, one of my favorite soups on the island. Creamy, hearty, with plenty of fish, shrimp, crab, and potatoes. Shared a crabcake with my girlfriend--another solid choice, with plenty of crab, not too heavy on the filling, and with a lovely remoulade. For mains, we both had the grilled redfish, a baked potato for me, and mixed veggies for her. Perfectly cooked pieces of fish with a nice crust on the outside while still being moist and tender. Dessert this time was the chocolate pie, which was quite nice, not being too heavy nor excessively sweet. Did I mention the cocktails? I'm a big fan of the smokey mango Fiddlerita (a mezcal take on the classic marg), and the saladito a close second (again, mezcal, but with a little honey and cayenne). The girlfriend enjoys the basil smash (hold the simple syrup, please). Previously, we've tried the artichoke dip, which is also fantastic, shrimp and grits (solid, but Reid's does it better), blackened tripletail over creamy leek sauce (a special, and special indeed), and the key lime pie (excellent). You really can't go wrong here.

Any fish over angel hair pasta is exceptional. Their blackened fish can be hit or miss... had the blackened grouper last week and it was good, but a little heavy on the seasoning, at the expense of being able to taste the fish. And the bread pudding, my god, the bread pudding. This is one of my all-time favorite desserts and I would put Crabdaddy's bread pudding up against any other restaurant on the island. Service is usually excellent, too. Easily in my top five restaurants on SSI.

They offer a happy hour for cocktails and small plates even on Saturday which we all took advantage of! My experience is that many places just don't deliver the quality expected and I'm often disappointed. I'll have to say, Woodside delivered! This place is clearly elevated, elegant, and the food is prepared with culinary skill. From the moment we stepped inside, I could tell the atmosphere was classy and quaint. We were greeted by our server Buddy and the bartender. My instincts were that this was going to be good. I was still cautious. Buddy seated us appropriately and brought us menus and filtered water. We both started with coffee and to my surprise Buddy brought a large urn of French press coffee, whole cream and sugar cubes, I absolutely love French Press coffee but rarely see it at a restaurant. I make it at home and it definitely adds to the enjoyment of a good cup of coffee. Definitely a step above here. We looked at the brunch menu and found it hard to decide as there were so many interesting selections that I wanted to try. My wife ordered the Eggs Benedict and I ordered the Croque Madame. As I deliberated, Buddy suggested that I'd stick with my first impression and that I would not be disappointed. I thought it was very classy the way he presented that and it makes sense that sometimes one should go with their first instinct, rather than wonder if they made the right choice later. Again, there were just so many things I wanted to try. When our meals came out, we were both pleasantly surprised at the quality and taste. This was not ordinary breakfast, but I had a good price point for what you get. It was really about the same cost as most breakfast places on the island, but such higher quality and sophistication. I can honestly say this was the best brunch experience I've had in many years and we've frequent a lot of places. The Croque was so tasty, complex and abundant and even the french fries were excellent. My wife's Benedict was also very special as it was rich, fresh, and absolutely clear it was prepared by a chef. The Latkas were a tasty complement. Overall, this was an outstanding experience and I just didn't want to leave. I can't wait to return for dinner to experience it. I believe the menu changes daily and I would definitely recommend Woodside as an elevated dining experience. I am happy to rate this a true 5.0 as it is the best food I've had in the Brunswick/SSI area over the past 6 months. Buddy was great and clearly understands service etiquette.
