The salon is clean, stylish and modern and it's very reasonably priced, for a top class salon. More to the point, they know how to cut hair! So many places give you a bad cut and then dry it so that it looks good when you leave the salon and like a dogs dinner when you do it yourself! They recently set up 'The Nail Studio', employing a brilliant nail technician. I recently had a pedi and it was one of the best I've ever had (the best one was in Portugal, which is a bit too far to go :-D) The nail tech also does really beautiful nail art. It's not my sort of thing, but still very intricate and artistic.

But the stylists are very good at their jobs and the prices are pretty good for the service they offer. You can get a quick cut so you're not there all day and they do things like fringe trims which is very handy. The products they use such as Tigi are also really lovely and very professional. Unfortunately the hairdresser my friend used was unavailable in the week that I wanted to get my hair done. I opted to use someone of equivalent level and thought that given the salons good reviews that would be just as good. At the salon I found the staff to be pleasant but uninterested in me. The hairdresser I used kept watching the door as if I was just a filler appointment in between their more important clients. I found the same with the reception staff who just left me standing there aimlessly for a while whilst they chatted. I wouldn't have minded the staff's dismissiveness so much if the cut had been good. However, once I got home I noticed that there were long pieces of hair that that the hairdresser has missed and I ended up having to cut these piece to length myself at home. I understand that it might be easy to miss small bits of hair but these were reasonable sizeable sections. Overall I was just disappointed. My friend had spoken about how much she liked the salon as they were very friendly and the cut/colours were always good. I had to sadly disagree. However, I do note that this could be a one time lapse in service and I am going back again tomorrow to the hairdresser actually recommended by my friend so if they are much better I will happily change my views and let you all know.

The staff were lovely too, very knowledgeable and their was a cool and fun atmosphere in there. Not like those stuffy 'professional' hairdressers. They do in fact specialise in Afro-Caribbean hair (of which I am not the owner, although you'd be forgiven into thinking so when I've backcombed it into oblivion). They have a dedicated stylist for this kind of hair and whilst this is clearly a focus of sorts, they have a wide range of clientele so if you don't have Afro-Caribbean hair don't be put off. They are just as welcoming.

The staff are always friendly and listen to any concerns and ideas you have, having a stylist that you can really communicate with is essential. They offer the latest products and the prices are very competitive, so I don't feel like I'm being ripped off. I nipped in here one day as I was having a wander through town as I noticed that they offered spa and beauty treatments too. I went in only with the intention of picking up a few leaflets to take away and read but the lovely manager offered to show me the treatment spaces! We walked through their salon, which looks to be extremely well kept and high end, and wandered down the stairs into the area where the massages and such are held. As soon as you enter the space a wave of calm envelops you; everything is painted over in a deep chocolate, almost black, and there are dimly lit spot lights around to keep the space as relaxing as possible. There was an area sectioned off by these dangling chains/links which created a little separate sofa space. The lady explained to me that this is the relaxation area for after treatments - no one is rushed out after their appointment, and they're free to chill out in there with a tea or a coffee for as long as they like! Then she showed me one of the massage rooms. It was a little parlour of heaven! The room was also painted in the deep chocolates, but with little arrangements of candles and minimalistic decoration, all of which blended in to create a lovely space. I couldn't imagine anywhere being more blissful to receive a massage! I thanked her as we went back up and took away some leaflets to browse over. The prices seem to be a touch higher than I had hoped but in any case, I have my Mum coming to visit in a few weeks and I think this is definitely going to be on the 'to do' list! From hair cuts, dyes, re-stylings, beauty massages, facials, eyebrow shapings and much much more, Russell Eaton seems to be the high end beauty specialist of Leeds. The products remain on sale there though and now you can have that experience in salon form once again. Cutting edge cuts if you so wish funky premises and stupidly cool staff (as always in top end salons). Yep it is quite like many a salon in that description and it isn't anything ground breaking or new. What it is is quality. That's what you want from a hair cut and that is what you'll get. Oh and it's heavy on the organic, nice!

It's based just up the road from where I live, which was the main reason for choosing this particular hairdresser (I was feeling lazy). The salon is modern, clean and welcoming and the lady who cut my hair was chatty but not to the point where I wanted to shut her up, which is usually the case with hairdressers. I'm one of those people who enjoy being pampered, so the less chit-chat the better. Thankfully, she had a really soothing voice which made me feel so relaxed I almost nodded off as she was massaging conditioner into my scalp. As the salon isn't far from Manchester city centre, prices aren't exactly cheap. I paid £17 for the trim, which is pretty steep compared to prices in the 'burbs and further afield. But it's convenient and they did do a good job (I came out with a lovely, shiny, blunt, jet-black mane) so I can't really complain.
