We heard about the great reviews of Rave Coffee and needed a place close to our Airbnb for some early breakfast, so we came here! Rave Coffee is a quaint yet modern and small coffee shop that could seat about 10 people comfortably. Excited for the butter tart, I noticed this butter tart looked like a square pastry as opposed to the circular almost mini-pie like pastry I've been used to. I ordered it anyways, and we also ordered some banana bread. Because these were pre-packed pastries that were sold individually, we were able to sit down and eat as soon as we finished paying. 7:30AM on a Sunday meant that we had the seating area to ourselves! This butter tart had raisins in it, which normally I'm not a big fan of, but I could barely taste the raisins with the buttery filling. The filling almost tasted grainy and it wasn't as sweet as expected. The pastry was crumbly and tasted okay. I wished it was served warm - it probably would have made the B tart taste better! The banana bread was also about average tasting. Although it was soft, I don't think there were any qualities that made it stand out. It did the job as banana bread, although it could have been improved. Not sure when I could come back here again, but if so, I would try out something else! read more

Great coffee stop!! They roast their own beans and flavors are great. When you pick your roast for a pour-over they pick your beans from pre-rationed silver tins, grind them fresh and then prepare your pour-over. So I bought a fellow Eclipse coffee cups that they have for sale, since I thought it was nice and cool souvenir to have from our time here in Canmore. My wife and I ended up getting a lavender cold brew. I asked Gary the barista if he could put it in the new souvenir cup. He said yes that he would wash it and put the coffee in there. So my wife and I left and drove off. Fortunately for us I removed the lid of the cup and found the white packet that comes with new items to keep away moisture away. You know the packet that say DO NOT EAT OR SWALLOW BECAUSE ITS POSION!!! NOT ONLY DID GARY LIE ABOUT WASHING IT BUT DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO RESPECT TO REMOVE THE POSION PACKET ! It was seeping in the coffee from more than 10mins before we saw it was in there. That dude was lucky that my wife didn't drink any of the coffee and no one was seriously hurt. I would not recommend this place, they have a serious lack of professionalism and respect for their customers. Also their coffee is on par with Tim Hortons, so same ur money and possibly your life and go somewhere else. If you do go here, check your drink and watch them make it because clearly they can't be trusted. read more

After a long-ish flight, and a drive from Calgary to Canmore, plus a time difference. I needed some coffee. And as always, I try and avoid Starbucks unless I have no other choice. So I'm super glad I found Rave Coffee. Finding Rave was a bit difficult. It's tucked in a corner of a small plaza. If you weren't looking for them, you really wouldn't know they exist. Rave not only makes coffee, they also roast their own beans. Kinda surprised to find that in a small town like Canmore. But glad that they do do it! I ordered a latte and a flat white. It was nice and smooth, but I found my latte a bit weak, drowned out by the milk. The hubby's flat white was better, probably because there was less milk. read more

Ardent coffee lovers - come over to Rave Coffee! GPS was taking us over the neighborhood and when we almost gave up the search, we saw a sign for "Rave Coffee" and drove into the parking lot. The cute, little shop was very inviting, with a few chairs and couches. The back part of the coffee shop is where the beans are freshly roasted and you can look at the machines though the glass doors. They even sell small and large packets of coffee beans in the store. We bought a cafe latte and loved it! So, ended up getting a large packet of coffee beans before heading out. These guys know their stuff about coffee! read more

Actually good coffee. Like, really good. They care where they source their beans, how they are roasted, and how everything is prepared. I had a flat white and it was miraculous: almost fluffy with the milk, but the coffee was the star because you could still taste it. And it was complex and flavorful. My friends had black coffees and a latte, and I had sips of each! So great. I wish I could remember the exact beans they picked, but everything was wonderful. We also had some breakfast wraps and paninis there, which were extremely satisfying and fresh. Careful - it can get super busy here in the morning! But it's worth it! Easily the best coffee in Canmore, this is the only third wave cafe in town. (if I'm wrong about that, I'd like to know!) They have tasty little treats, but the star here is the coffee. They roast it themselves, and they do a pretty good job for a new biz. Every coffee I've had here has been excellent, whether it's a pour over or espresso based. They also have some interesting coffee info in the binder on the coffee table (turns out light roast beans don't actually contain more caffeine, who knew!) Good stuff, keep it up, boys! read more

Every time we travel back to Calgary from Canmore we pass by this place. I always see it from the road but we've never taken the time to stop in until this past weekend. We just plain needed a caffeine fix and wow, did we get it. The guys roast their own beans in store and there are a wide variety on sale from blended light to dark roasts and single origin varieties in a range of roasting shades. The drinks on menu cover a wide range of tastes and brewing methods, two leaves teas, and multiple iterations of hot chocolates. Yes, you can get a pour over here... Rave Coffee has a coffee subscription 'club' where they send you a different 950g bag each month with brewing instructions and growing history. It's a great way to learn about the characteristics of coffee around the world. Dean and Taylor were nice to chat with and our coffees were made quickly, but more importantly delicious! read more

After trying most of the coffee venues in the Canmore/Banff area, we decided to give Rave a try this morning. The shop is located in a non-descript spot in a strip mall. When you enter, there is a bit of a small warehouse feel...but kind of trendy as well. I ordered the dark (all pour over), but can't remember the coffee description. My friend ordered the Americano....which she asked for a 50/50 decaf/caf blend. For my taste, I didn't like my choice as well as some of the other venues in town...and it was slightly more pricey. Overall, the service was good and I would still recommend giving this a try as maybe it was just a function of my selection today. read more

The main issue with Rave lies either in the beans or in the shots, producing a bitter/burnt taste. Many a coffee shop has been brought down by an inexperienced barista or a poorly setup machine. Judging from the expansive rows and rows of different roasts for sale at Rave, and the nice latte art so reminiscent of their logo, my best guess is that the failure lies in the setup of the machine itself, or in the grind/tamp pressure. I only sampled it three times with a latte, cappuccino and a mocha, so it could also have been just a mediocre couple of days. On the plus side the space is nice, the baristas friendly, and it looks like it should, or could be 5 stars. Tl;dr- for the average coffee drinker, passable coffee.
