You might not get to see big famous companies here, but rather newcomers and those who enjoy the freedom of the fringe. I enjoy going to the Sunday Night Improv (every Sunday night 8 pm) - a competition in improv with many regulars and a few new faces every time, guaranteed to make you laugh! The crowd in the audience gets quite involved, too. And for those who want to be on stage themselves, there is a workshop every Sunday prior to the show. Everybody can attend for free, and then perform in the evening! The theatre is also one of the regular venues for the Zoofest, the more independent branch of the Montreal comedy festival.

I've had the pleasure of performing here at their annual Sketch Festival. Alain and Mark run the place, and they treat their performers like performers are supposed to be treated. Which is, incidentally, very good. By consequence of performing here, I've also been able to catch a few of the shows they put on, including original bilingual productions, and weekly improv nights. It's all about the art here. It's about people who love what they are doing, and love pushing it to new levels. The venue itself is an intimate space, with a bar up front and two-ish levels of seating. It's across from a strip club where you might be able to catch the silhouettes of lovely-ish ladies dancing in the windows during the early hours of the night! If you live in the area, check out what they have going on, and go to it. I'm so upset I missed the a Capella / barbershop group that was performing last time I was in town.

The venue was well looked after as well with beautiful ceiling decoration. The only downside was that they didn't have a coat check-in service to complete this remarkable evening. We were a group of 26 (you heard me) and we had no troubles finding our seat or grabbing something in the lobby bar before the show. It was so cool to be sitting watching rising stars doing their thing! Not to mention knowing all the iconic comedians who have been part of this very comedy fest in the past. Also it was nice to be sitting inside since some of the comedy shows were on the main stage outdoors.

Happy 30th Anniversary, Cirque du Soleil…read more In a frozen Northern night of Montréal, under darkest blue sky you ever seen, old church was colorwashed in lights, and people lined up on endless steps to get inside. It was magical. There were no acrobatics - but instead, it became a game of light and shadow on church's ceilings and domes - and memories came alive, snow has fallen and stars blinked in the dark sky. Beautiful songs from all previous shows, in all different languages, made us sway and sings inside of our hearts. The performances were amazing. The acoustics of the church was really perfect for this. The choir and sound of pipe organ was outstanding. A whisper of the song escaped my lips when I recognized languages - Italian, Spanish, French, English... ~Standing ovation on the end~ Encore, encore!

The architecture of the building is very interesting, you can easily organize events there. In one of the spaces, there was also a small exhibition of abstract art, always useful while waiting for the show to begin. The seats were comfortable and the room well sounded, I really enjoyed the experience ... The only real downside with this place, for me as a user of public transport, is its geolocation.
