There were only 2 people loitering in the parking lot (that I noticed). The bullet proof glass encasing the front desk has no scratches or scuffs on it, and even opens up so that you can interact with the clerk directly, who was very friendly. The lobby is large and clean. I paid a fee of three dollars for wifi that cuts out once every ten minutes or so. I'm even using it to write this stupid review. What more could you ask for? Amazing blankets? Oh wait, they ALREADY HAVE THOSE. THE BLANKETS HAVE GEESE AND BEARS ON THEM. AND MOUNTAINS. JESUS CRIMMINY CHRIST. Oh, and dogs. As we were paying up, some guy and his wife came downstairs and she stormed outside while he explained that she didn't want to stay here and was forcing him to drive the rest of the distance home tonight. PS the pillows are quite fluffy and the hot water works and the room is clean and there are no rapists or ghosts hiding under the bed

The bathroom was well stocked with all amenities I needed, and the shower was very easy to navigate even though I do use a cane to walk with it was awesome. There was plenty of railing inside the shower which made it better for me. The TV was great, and had ample enough channels to please me. The staff was excellent upon arrival there was a lady named Emily, she was super polite, friendly, and made me feel so welcome. She gave me a room closest to the door. YAHOO ! The 2nd shift night time staff was awesome as well, her name was Kris. It was pouring rain, and we saw lightening, she was very concerned about my safety in getting to my Toyota Tacoma which is hard to get into on a good day, much less rain & thunderstorms. Even the 3rd shift lady was nice on my way to breakfast we spoke. This is one of the best experiences I have had including the Hilton in Raleigh, and the cherry on top is people are allowed to bring their dog. I did not have my dog with me, but I would definitely stay @ the Roanoke Rapids Red Roof Inn again, as well as suggesting it to my friends. Thank you for a peaceful night when I was so sick, and in so much pain I could not even make it home to Wilson, NC !! Sincerely, Kim Martin Pepper

I left a detailed review previously but I will provide it here as well with updates thru checkout…read more When I arrived, there was an employee standing by the entree. We greeted each other and I continued inside. There was no one at the welcome counter. I looked around, called out, but no response. The employee who was standing outside finally came in and apologized as she said she didn't realize I was checking in. So, even though I arrived at check in time and wearing a heavy backpack, she chose to finish her business (cell call, smoking - I really couldn't say). The room I reserved turned out to be upstairs but I have been coming to this location for the last 2-3 years and have never been given an upstairs room. I'm pretty sure I was told that smoking rooms were upstairs (I am a smoker and wanted that type of room) and nonsmoking were all downstairs; I can not physically climb stairs, so I've always requested nonsmoking. The lady employee gave me another room on the first floor (rm 114). When I got to the room, I felt it was very unsafe for a single elderly woman as it was directly facing an exit door. I was so very tired from my travels, I decided to take the room and be extra precautious. I opened the room door and saw the beds had not been made. I immediately went back to the front desk. I waited until a couple finished checking in and told the lady employee that the room's beds were unmade. She then proceeded to look for another room for me (no apology for my inconvenience). Before she had completed registration to my new room (131), the couple that was checking in as I waited to voice my complaint, returned to say their room was filthy. The next morning, I went to breakfast and it was far inferior to anything I've had here before. The coffee was weaker than tea, there were no hot items (no eggs, no waffle maker, no meat, no oatmeal), only bread (no bagels), only one flavor of mini muffins, cereal and instant grits. I don't know if there is new management but this is the second time I've been extremely disappointed with this hotel. For my return trip on 7 Jun, I went to a different hotel. I willl not be back to this hotel.

The other "big name" hotels in the area had "no room at the inn". The Best Western only had two rooms remaining: a king and a Junior king suite. We took the suite, even though our plan was to be there less than 12 hours. The front desk staff was friendly and quick (we got checked in, got a key and were in our room in less than 10 minutes). The room was not a suite like at the Ritz, but it had a sofa, desk and a quiet, clean, working refrigerator. The room was clean and nothing appeared worn, broken or nasty. The bathroom was a standard room kind of bathroom (toilet and tub behind door with an external sink)-small, but clean and great water pressure in the shower. The towels were not too thin and absorbent (could have had 2 more on hand, but enough for our needs). The room was quiet, although from the hallway you could hear other rooms' noise (hairdryers, conversation). Even though our room overlooked the Highway (I-95), we didn't hear traffic noise. The bed was very comfortable. I slept soundly until the alarm went off in the morning. The a/c worked, wasn't noisy or smelly and didn't wet the wall/carpet. The continental breakfast was no great shakes, but there was fresh coffee, fruit, microwaveable breakfast sandwiches, cereal, toast and yogurt. The breakfast area was clean. There were doggie biscuits at the desk, so they are pet friendly. There were rolls of carpeting in the stairwells and boxes stacked in a storage room with a windowed door, so they are making updates and improvements. Overall, a decent place to stay for a night while on the road and less expensive than some of the other places in the immediate area.
