The continental breakfast was meh. Only one of the two buffet trays had food in it and the scrambled eggs were very watery. They have plain and cinnamon roll flavored waffle batter, but the cinnamon didn't have much punch to it. The apple juice had little flavor and was almost like drinking water.

I wish we would've made friends and ate with them instead of next-door at the Farmhouse Restaurant. It was terrible. I wrote a different review on that. We booked a 2 queen room for our family of 3. The room was spacious and had a view of the woods and walking trail behind the hotel. There was a mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker in the room. The shower had shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. We did have problems with our door unlocking, but it was no issue. The main reason we stayed here was for the pool. The pool is 3'6" deep with a basketball goal and water spraying into it. There is a kitty pool that was 1 foot deep and two small slides. There was also a hot tub that went indoor and outdoor Saturday night the hot tub was too hot for my son to get in but Sunday morning it was warm. Lots of kids in the hot tub. The pool is not heated. It was pretty cold. I preferred the hot tub temperature. The staff at check-in and check out were both very friendly. They do a continental breakfast with two waffle makers. My son loved making his own waffles. They also had scrambled eggs, sausage, links, ham, hard boiled eggs, bagels, toast, muffins, oatmeal, and cereal. Plus a machine with orange juice, apple juice, cranberry juice, and water and of course there was a coffee. We enjoyed our stay! As loud as the hotel was Saturday night. I expected to be woke up by kids running down the hallway or slamming doors and I'm happy to say we all slept all night. Great destination hotel.

The bed was very comfortable and the heat/coo/ system has a constant on so you don't hear it coming on and off all night long. Price is reasonable. The bad part of the stay, while surfaces appear to be clean, you will see the dirt come of your feet when you are in the shower if you walk around bear footed. It really is past due for carpets to be cleaned. Second, there is only 1 ice maker on the first floor. You get settled in only to have to make another trip downstairs.

Nice comforter, pillows, and linens on the bed; no stains or odors. Likewise for the bed itself, mattresses look new. The air unit is quiet and efficient and the TV and lights turn on. All the waters work, pressure is decent and plenty of hot but the cold water in the sink doesn't ever really get cold.

However, Jim (the owner and host), was extremely gracious and welcoming. We went straight to our rooms after a brief "interview" with Jim. Necessary to determine our likes and dislikes for breakfast. Our rooms were beautiful. Impeccably kept. We learned Jim is responsible for laying the tile in the bathrooms. There aren't any televisions in the rooms on purpose. I'll be sure to pack a book next time I stay at a B&B. Our daughter was with us so it was nice to visit with her instead of being distracted by a television. Our first morning, we had breakfast with a few of the other guests. Jim prepared Scrambled Eggs served in a Roasted Bell Pepper, with Asparagus, Garlic Grits (AMAZING), salad and fruit. Prior to receiving our main breakfast course, we were served warm, cinnamon bananas and also a chocolate croissant. The next morning, we had a private breakfast. We were served Poached Pears, a Carrot Cake muffin, followed by Quiche, Potatoes, Sausage, & fruit. Both days, Jim catered to my daughter's dislike of eggs making her French Toast with Cinnamon Apples the first day and Oatmeal with Cinnamon Apples (our suggestion) the second day. The entire Inn is very inviting. Jim sat with us at breakfast our second and last morning and shared his story with us. Highly recommend the Valparaiso Inn. So glad we were booked here.

I called and reserved the room on my way through and planned on returning after meeting with family further north. When I returned, I was met by a man that seemed a little confused as he may have just woke up - it was only 7 pm. I understand that hotel workers often keep strange hours and sleep when they can. He asked me for my ID, and stared at it like he had never seen one before. I asked him several times if he was feeling alright. This also responded nothing but a stare. I asked again and was told no. He then said, "65." Thinking he was asking my age and asking about a senior rate, I said, "no, I'm 60." He then stared at me again and yelled "65!" I asked again if he was feeling alright. This time he said "No." He yelled again, "65!" and told me that was the price I had agreed to on the phone. I told him that I had not agreed to that price and mentioned the sign that was in front of the hotel. He then produced a card with my information and $60 written in red ink, now telling me that I had agreed to a $60 price. I said that I hadn't and again mentioned the $45. He now remained silent and just stared at me. I went out and took a picture of the sign. When I returned and showed him the picture, I was told, "That room (singular) was not available. Needless to say, I didn't spend the night here. Instead, I went back to the place I have stayed several times before. Did I pay more? Yes, but I felt much safer giving my personal information for billing to the hotel that I had stayed in before.

Had dinner at the Colonial Inn with my lady and came to the Red Roof Inn and immediately asked the clerk if I accidentally booked the Red "Rough" Inn. The room smells like a 79 year old man's armpits but they have free candy in the lobby. DO NOT DRINK THE COFFEE in the lobby. It's actually some type of liquid that will make your nose bleed. Not kidding. This place is horrible. Staff is friendly but damn what a crappy bed. I'd give you two stars if you would at least have a mattress topper and electric outlets. Looks like a room from the 1970's. Apparently they didn't charge their IPhones in the 1970's. Again staff was very nice but this place is something you would see in the twilight zone where the main characters gets abducted by French aliens. I'm afraid to poop here.
