I am so disappointed & appalled w/ Economy Oil.
If you want a company w/ any customer service or respect to customers, I would absolutely not use them.
We are renting a house & came back from some time away & our oil tank was empty (no hot water!) We called Economy Oil & spoke w/ Toni who told us they are a COD oil company so you just pay for the oil you order. We ordered 100 gals & they set delivery for the next day (which was today)
Toni then asked us if we would need a 'Prime & Start' w/ our oil delivery, which is a service they offer w/ delivery. She told us that sometimes when the tank is empty, the boiler needs a 'Prime & Start' to get it going. We said that sounds great & we added it to the delivery if the boiler didn't start.
She told us that if we need the 'Prime and Start' to get it running, it will be $45 & we can pay in cash. We agreed & gave our credit card for the oil which was charged right away.
Now fast forward to today.
The delivery driver came & I showed him the oil tank & he filled the 100 gals. He then came into the basement to start the boiler.
He pushed the re-set button & it started up but then after a few secs, it shut off.
He informed me he would have to do the 'Prime & Start' which was fine, & I had the $45 cash ready.
He then asked me if I had a wrench. He said that the wrench needed for the 'Prime & Start' was not on his truck & he always has it in his truck but today he didn't for some reason. I gave him 2 wrenches to try to use but neither worked as I guess it is a certain type of wrench needed.
He then told me that w/out the tool, there was nothing he could do. He called his mgr who told him that if he didn't have the tool w/ him, there was nothing they could do. I then called the company myself & before I could even get someone on the phone, the delivery driver told me he had to leave.
So now at this point I have the oil that I paid for, but the boiler is not running & I can't use the oil.
Now I got the mgr on the phone from the company, Britney.
I explained the situation & I was of course thinking just from a normal customer service standpoint that she would send someone else w/ the proper tool to fix the situation so that we could ACTUALLY USE THE OIL and MAKE GOOD on the service that they offered & we signed up for.
NOPE! She did the exact opposite. She proceeded to tell me that there was nothing they could do. They are an oil company & not a service company & they did what they were supposed to. I explained to her again that we were told that if we needed the 'Prime & Start' the delivery driver would perform it & get the boiler running. She became extremely defensive & combative w/ me. She told me that there was never a guarantee that they would be able to do this & all they were required to do was deliver the oil. I explained again that the driver self-admittedly told me that this was their fault & this was a tool they were supposed to have. She kept repeating that there was no guarantee & they are not a service company. I explained that the oil I bought from them was useless if the boiler wasn't running & they should not offer the service if it is not guaranteed. Am I wrong in thinking if you offer a service, the customer should expect to receive the service?
She just kept trying to spin it by saying, "we are an oil company, not a service company. Did you get the oil? Did you get the oil?"
I explained again because I was so confused as to their behavior and she kept repeating, "you got the oil and that's what you paid for"
Finally I asked to speak to the owner of the company.
I was told I couldn't because he does other things & doesn't deal w/ things like this. She clearly wanted me off the phone, & said she would transfer me to the Dispatch mgr.
I got the dispatch mgr who was advised of the situation by Britney & told me w/out even letting me speak that there was nothing they could do. I explained the entire situation to her, thinking that rationally, if someone hears that it was a mistake made by their company, they would be accountable & send someone out. She just repeated that there was nothing they could do. I told her I didn't understand how they do business this way & she hung up on me.
We called back again & spoke to Toni, who we had placed the original order w/. We explained the entire situation to her & told her that we felt taken advantage of & that the customer experience was horrible. We said we would like to give them a chance to make it right & please send someone w/ the correct tool to perform the 'Prime & Start', we would pay them the additional $ to do so and we would move on.
She said she understood & would see what she could do.
She called us back & told us that there was still nothing they could do.
We still have NO HOT WATER & have to hire another company for several hundred dollars to perform the service that Economy Oil was supposed to do & OFFERED.
This was the worst customer service I have ever received. Do Not Use Economy Oil! read more
