Absolutely horrible experience. I dropped off a classic car lock on a Friday morning -- they said they would call me with a quote on Monday. Monday came and went -- so I called them Tuesday morning -- they said they had not yet looked at it. I get a phone call on Tuesday afternoon -- they give me two quotes... One quote to change the tumblers (which is what I wanted, but was exorbitantly expensive -- something Home Depot has done for me for FREE in the past), and a second quote to make a new key for the lock (which Ed Humes said would be easier, and would not damage the lock). I selected option number two (get a new key made), even though the new key would look different from the other car keys, and would not open the door locks. (Not the best solution to my problem, but I wanted to make it easy on Ed Humes.) Wednesday went by. Thursday went by. Friday went by. Ed Humes NEVER CALLED ME -- not even to return my multiple messages! On Thursday, I left a message saying I could help them by purchasing a new cylinder and Ed Humes could install it. Ed Humes did not respond. On Friday, when I called, a woman actually answered the phone and told me they gave up on the lock. She told me to go pick it up, and gave me a ONE HOUR window (8:30 to 9:30 am) when their storefront would be open for me to pick it up. Hey! I have a day job, Ed Humes! So, I pick up the lock, and Ed Humes has completely destroyed my classic car part. They broke the hinge/door, and destroyed the threads on the back side by placing the threads in a vice! If I can find a replacement part, it will cost me over $200 to replace this classic car part! In the meantime, I do not have a lock for the trunk of my 1963 Falcon Sprint Convertible -- of which only 4,000 were ever made!!!! (The lock was fine before Ed Humes got a hold of it -- the damaged threads make it impossible to reinstall this part). Ed Humes is absolutely not careful with other people's property. Ed Humes does not communicate well. Ed Humes has extremely limited hours at their storefront. Ed Humes keeps your lock over one week, and still does not fix it. I would recommend you stay as far away from Ed Humes as possible! UPDATE: I was able to install a new cylinder and effectively repair the lock on my own, in my living room, in about 20 minutes. I have ZERO training as a locksmith. Why could I fix the lock in 20 minutes, when Ed Humes could not fix the lock in ONE WEEK?! I did not need to use a vice, and I did not damage the lock further. Ed and Tom were fantastic! They came to the house, got all the locks fitted to match our newly installed front lock (connected to our security system), and they were so professional and great at their craft. They cut four extra keys for us, and encouraged us to try out the keys to make sure the locks worked well before they headed out. I had trouble with a few locks prior, because they were screwed in too tight, and Tom made sure to adjust them so I didn't have any trouble with any of the locks moving forward. (And he was very sweet with my yippy dog Peanut.) I would strongly recommend these guys!! read more

I made an appointment to have my Honda Fit cracked key case fix. Mr. Humes was very courteous and promptly fixed this key at a reasonable charge. I asked about a second Honda key that was not working and he quickly diagnosed it as having a weak battery. This key too was quickly fitted with a battery at no extra charge (except for the battery.) Tom was the man I talked to the first two times I called. He made a commitment twice and broke it twice. When I called back the third time to try to find out what was going on, the woman who answered the phone was extremely rude and condescending. I was disappointed in the service and the treatment I received when I called to check in. If they were too busy to take on the job, they should have been direct. Instead, I was left waiting. We called another locksmith who was at my house to do the job within 20 minutes of my call. read more

I called and asked how much for a new Prius key. They said I would have to bring it in to get a quote, and no, they wouldn't just give me a price range over the phone. So I dropped by and finally found the place (NO signage) only to find a locked door. I rang the bell (once) and nothing happened, so I called. I was told by the person who answered that they were out on a job and that they only see people in the morning by appointment. I mentioned that their Website said they were open till 5. She basically said she was on a job so she was at work wasn't she? I hung up. At home someone called me back a few minutes later, I thought to apologize, but he started with " I hear you need a locksmith and was outside our shop banging on our door." I told him my story and what I wanted - to which he replied " well we would have told you that we only make appointments in the morning". "No, you're person told me to bring in my key" " Nah, we always tell people to make a morning appointment" "If you told me that, why would I have shown up!" I hung up. If that's how they treat people trying to give them business, what is it like at their complaints department? They could not have been less professional. Or nice.
