I'm quite sure there will be a despondent troop of ex-Woolies employees turfed out of the Bethnal Green branch marching with solidarity to their local employment agency or nearby soup kitchen to get a spoonful of harsh reality any day now. Now I've not actually been into this Job Centre but have been reliably informed it's good for manual/retail vacancies and has a fast turnaround time for one on one consultations. Jokes aside, it's dog eat dog out there at the moment, fellow brethren, and no-one is safe. Job Centres could become second homes for many more to follow. Merry Xmas!

When i arrived i was a little bit late (10min) and there was a lot of people waiting as you would expect so i didn't really matter in the end. I was surprised to only wait 20min honestly. I don't know how job centres work here but in France it would be a nightmare and a lot of waiting. The gentleman i had my appointment with was very efficient, professional and even friendly (an other surprise for the french i am haha). All was done in 20 min or less. Impressive. He reassured me regarding all the concerns and questions i had which is appreciated. A very good experience.

COREcruitment specialises in hospitality and the service industry, however they do sometimes get roles outside of that area. And that is how I come to them. They are professional! And unlike most agencies in London, you will not get harassed every 10 minutes! And it was safe to give them my references! Some agency harass my references which is why I never give out reference phone numbers. I didn't have this problem with them. They do have a large list of roles to fill. It's worth giving them a shot!

Now usually when recruitment agencies call you up they just want to get you on the books and a lot of the time you wont hear from them again. But Adecco were great, I literally went in did a quick computer test and they sent me on my way to my new temp job which i started the next day. The only think I found annoying was that you had to fax your time sheet instead of emailing it but maybe that has changed now. Highly recommended if you are looking for a job.

I'm…read morenot long registered with this Victoria branch and they've come up with a six week corporate reception/switchboard temporary job with a better rate of pay than I get with other agencies. I find their staff friendly and they sent me a birthday card which I thought was a nice touch. Way back in 1996/97 they had an office in Kingsway and they found me a nice part-time job at Parcelforce for about 4 months. They stuck with me even though I didn't complete an assignment once. Their old Oxford Street branch were also pro-active in finding me an administrative permanent job years ago which I stayed with for about 10 months (so they would have got their fees). Yes, so far I like Kelly Services Victoria branch and I'll see how it goes.

I had contact with 3 different people about one role, and there was a lot of confusion about when (and if?!) I was coming in to do my registration documents, when I had clearly confirmed when I would do so. The recruiter didn't even bother to be at work for the meeting time she chose, and no-one knew I was coming. Had to give a random staff member a run down of my experience and what I was looking for (which I had already done). Main contact didn't bother to apologise or follow up, showing how little they care about their candidates, at the cattle market that is Morgan Hunt. Good luck ever getting a job description from them for a temp/contract role you are applying for either. What happened to the job? It was already filled, of course. Approach with caution, and only if you must.

The people were so nice to me at this firm and I buggered off when I didn't want to work in the print room which I felt considerable sadness over. Probably the best decision as I'd have ended up an alcoholic if I'd got the permanent job. Consultant at Secretaries Plus took 50p from my hourly rate at the start of this assignment and gave me some 'technical talk' about another agency taking their cut. They contacted me again last year to register with the wonderful Karen Dunkin. Phoned me to cancel but as I'm a smoker and get everywhere early for a cup of tea and a fag and don't have a mobile was able to register anyway just by turning up. They've found me good sporadic work at a firm I enjoy setting up meeting rooms and postroom assistance. They email payslips which I do not like but were very prompt with my end of year P60 which is much appreciated as this is handy for claiming a tax rebate.

The staff are friendly and helpful and if you get thirsty or want a drink of water they have a water fountain. Based in the centre of Hammersmith, a minute from the underground station, it is within easy reach plus loads of buses stop right outside there. They have office support work, Admin, secretarial and PA work.

People First does multi-lingual recruitment for a number of different industries, and they are…read moreworthwhile registering with if you speak more than one language. I went for an interview with them for a job in their office, which seemed like an OK kind of place, if you don't find the whole HR world a little soul destroying. They were professional and offered reasonable advice, but did send me for a number of interviews that were entirely inappropriate to my skill set, or simply horrific jobs, that they had failed to inform me of the fact that holidays all had to be taken in September, or some similar problem. From my experience, if you have a language skill they need, they will be fairly indiscriminate as to who they will send for interview. This is a criticism I have of language specialist recruitment agencies in general. Make sure you ask lots of questions about the job before committing to an interview, because the information they send can be incomplete and sometimes a little misleading. However of the places I have dealt with, People First was the best of a fairly average bunch.

I'm giving three stars because CTS did try for me and Lindsey at CTS took my side and was sympathetic. It also gave me the opportunity to process back quite a large tax refund. I think however it was a bit of a cheek of CTS to charge workers for their minibus services to/from hard to reach nursing homes. I don't know if they still do this as they did when I worked through them in 2008. This is about the only piece of employment I've had by consulting the Jobcentre which goes to prove how unpleasant they are. First assignment at CTS -one day of hospital cleaning at Central Middlesex was actually quite pleasant. Young black guy in charge who was reasonable and ensured we had adequate breaks. After a world cruise holiday from Australia CTS found me more work. I lasted three days at a hospital in south London for a job that was scheduled to last a month. I am quite a hardworking person who just gets on with a job but this was real slave labour from a European female manager - I wouldn't have lasted if it had been paying 25 Pounds an hour let alone 6 Pounds 50. This job was made worse by constant nagging from a young African woman on some sort of mission. Even by Lindsey's own admission the manager at this assignment was a slave driver. Nursing home cleaning in Essex and Hertfordshire followed by my having to tube it to Liverpool Street, train it to Waltham Cross and then have CTS' minibus fee deducted from my minimum wages. Some of the staff including one Polish manager were actually quite nice. However I found a general lack of patience by me being new to this type of work. Some of the old people in the homes were quite nice and the severely disabled in a ga ga vegetative state did not bother me. Mopping and lots of rooms need to be cleaned and hoovered before the minibus arrives to take you back to Waltham Cross and I did not get through my allotted number of rooms. The final, most unpleasant experience happened at a nursing home in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire. A permanent, English employee (although not my superior or manager) harangued, complained bullied to me all during my assignment. Now, I have worked for some demanding, volatile eccentric people who run tight ships and actually in a way quite liked them. But imagine the most hideous, nagging bitch from hell from Eastenders and you had this woman. I noticed she did not do the same to the African temp I was working with because she probably thought she couldn't get away with it. Lindsey was sympathetic however and told me that other Domestics of hers had encountered this unpleasantness. CTS did try but these jobs at the NHS and NHS and private nursing homes were very often made unnecessarily unpleasant. My experiences through these assignments have not made me feel any warmer to the NHS (which I already mistrust for good reason) or the care/nursing industry.
