Southwest omelette with Turkey and side of fruit
    Mikayla K.

Lovely bakery and cafe! There is an area inside with pre-packaged baked goods like cookies, bread, loaf cakes, etc. But also a huge selection of various pastries, cakes, cookies, and more at the front in a display case. We came on a Saturday and they had a few samples of their baked goods to try. They have breakfast foods, such as biscuits, pancakes, French toast, omelettes. You order at the front and sit down, and they'll bring it to you. I ordered the southwest omelette which has bell peppers, onions, cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes, and a meat (I got Turkey) and comes with toast & one side (I got fruit). I was a bit disappointed in the omelette, as I was expecting the cheese to be nice and melted into it, but I just got cold cheese on top. My boyfriend enjoyed his sausage egg cheese croissant. It was a pretty big sandwich but did not come with a side. The only downside is that nothing seems seasoned. I had to add salt/pepper to my omelette , and my friend who ordered the all American breakfast agreed that everything was desperately in need of some seasoning. Otherwise, a nice place for breakfast or treats!

1st time here and it was fantastic! Orange, cinnamon, and honey pecan rolls were delicious.

Highly recommend! Fresh and Hot Breakfast was great . Cute shop that sells breads and cookies and grab and go items.

Poor packaging of $17 worth of baked goods.

The baked items are tasty, for the most part. A bit pricy, but not horrible. Customer service is generally good. My biggest complaint this visit is handling of my order. I was putting together a gift tray for snacks for a friend recovering from surgery in a nursing home. I ordered 3 frosted, decorated sugar cookies and a few pieces of rugelach. I'm very disappointed how $17 in baked goods was packaged. The cookie decorations are completely mauled. Not servible. Wasted $17. Very, very disappointing.

    A correctly made Cobb salad.

Service is always friendly. The ambiance is fine for a bakery/cafe. Don't order a Cobb salad if you want a Cobb salad. Their version is not a traditional Cobb salad. Edgar's Cobb salad consists of spring mix, feta, chicken or turkey, craisins, walnuts, and avocado with balsamic vinaigrette. There was one bacon bit in it. I didn't see it, but I tasted it...once. I was told it was described on the menu which I did not have access to. I felt safe ordering a pickup over the phone since I'd had a real Cobb salad there in the past. Disappointed. Thank you so much to the WONDERFUL and friendly staff for saving the day today! I went to pick up my daughter's birthday cake from a large chain store and when I got there they had cancelled my order. No notification, no call, just cancelled. So I had to find someone to make my daughter's cake on the day of her party. I showed them a picture of what I ordered from the other store and within 30 minutes I was walking out with a beautiful cake. It was so refreshing to walk into a store and have someone smile and welcome you into the store. They went above and beyond and I appreciate it more than they'll ever know!

You get plenty of food and I was very surprised that their grits were seasoned! On top of the food being good, the drinks (specifically the mimosa flight) are soooo good. This is more of a family brunch spot but is also great for friends who want to have a good brunch with good spirits. The outside is probably my preferred spot to eat. There isn't much of a view since the parking lot is right in front of the building, but it's cool if you don't want to be around a lot of families with kids. Overall, I definitely recommend if you want to get out and jumpstart your weekend with good food and drinks.

Second trip to River Restaurant starts off on a bad note. We arrived at 10:35 a.m. and the inside…read moredining room was only about half full with several empty tables, and the outdoor seating area, which we specifically requested, also had open tables. Still, we were told there would be a 15-20 minute wait. We waited about 35 minutes before seating. Make it make sense. That said, the restaurant sits right along the Black Warrior River, which offers a really pleasant view, especially from the patio. On a cool spring day like today, it's hard to beat outdoor seating here. Tuscaloosa is buzzing with football fans for the annual A-Day spring game, which adds to the energy around town. My better half ordered the shrimp and grits, and I went with the steak fajita bowl, minus the sunny-side-up egg. Even at my age, I can't do the runny yolk situation, I always ask for my eggs over hard. With that change, I'll say the fajita bowl jumped up to one of my top breakfast/brunch go-to dishes in town. Yes, I know it's technically brunch, but it was before 11 a.m., so I'm calling it breakfast. The shrimp and grits were solid, though the tails were still on the shrimp, which meant a bit of extra peeling at the table, my wife wasn't a fan of that part, but she still finished the dish and enjoyed it overall. Only minor gripe on the food side: ice seems to be a rare commodity here, I'd love a few more cubes in the water. But overall, the food was very good, the patio seating is absolutely the way to go, and the river view is fantastic.
