Love going to Edgar's to treat myself. Got the oatmeal cream pie for the first time and it was the BEST I've ever had! The crème cheese frosting tastes like the same they use in the red velvet cake. 2025 Edit: We had breakfast here after a several year break and it was horrible. Omelette was a joke. It was burned, thin, and had absolutely no flavor. Potatoes looked partially boiled (mushy and falling apart). Fruit was mushy and didn't look fresh. Prices aren't reasonable for what we received. We won't be back. I ordered some Gingerbread cookies for Christmas. It was so over powering with ginger that no one could eat them. I wasted so much money on this bakery with such a woo hoo reputation, but it's not woo hoo. The did not reveal it was mostly ginger. Although all of the cookies were missing an eye, or had a broken arm or neck I still prepared them. So embarrassing! Lovely bakery and cafe! There is an area inside with pre-packaged baked goods like cookies, bread, loaf cakes, etc. But also a huge selection of various pastries, cakes, cookies, and more at the front in a display case. We came on a Saturday and they had a few samples of their baked goods to try. They have breakfast foods, such as biscuits, pancakes, French toast, omelettes. You order at the front and sit down, and they'll bring it to you. I ordered the southwest omelette which has bell peppers, onions, cheddar cheese, diced tomatoes, and a meat (I got Turkey) and comes with toast & one side (I got fruit). I was a bit disappointed in the omelette, as I was expecting the cheese to be nice and melted into it, but I just got cold cheese on top. My boyfriend enjoyed his sausage egg cheese croissant. It was a pretty big sandwich but did not come with a side. The only downside is that nothing seems seasoned. I had to add salt/pepper to my omelette , and my friend who ordered the all American breakfast agreed that everything was desperately in need of some seasoning. Service is always friendly. The ambiance is fine for a bakery/cafe. Don't order a Cobb salad if you want a Cobb salad. Their version is not a traditional Cobb salad. Edgar's Cobb salad consists of spring mix, feta, chicken or turkey, craisins, walnuts, and avocado with balsamic vinaigrette. There was one bacon bit in it. I didn't see it, but I tasted it...once. Thank you so much to the WONDERFUL and friendly staff for saving the day today! I went to pick up my daughter's birthday cake from a large chain store and when I got there they had cancelled my order. No notification, no call, just cancelled. So I had to find someone to make my daughter's cake on the day of her party. I showed them a picture of what I ordered from the other store and within 30 minutes I was walking out with a beautiful cake. The staff wanted to tell me this is the only red they have and it gets darker the longer it sits out. Only after calling and complaining they agreed to make a new one. With the increase of prices and the "recommended" tips the quality of customer service has reduced greatly. The individual behind the counter asked me for my order and I started to speak he left unexpectedly to talk to other employees. When he came back there was no explanation but he asked me for my order again and as I was speaking again he said "excuse me" and left again to talk to other employees. I was the only customer and left. I don't think anything would be that urgent, unless there was a fire, to continually leave your only customer when there are many employees. Really disappointed by the customer service. I ordered 4 dozen petit fours a week in advance for a holiday party in December. They were supposed to be assorted flavors, but when I got there they gave me all vanilla and told me they were out of the other flavors. I try to be understanding, but they should have made sure to have what I ordered or at least contact me and make it right ahead of my pickup time. Time for another oldie but goodie! I visited Edgar's for breakfast on the day I moved into my new place in Tuscaloosa. Edgar's was recommended to me by the person i stayed with during the week i waited for my place to open up, and it didn't disappoint. Located in an outdoor shopping complex, it's a cross between an upscale cafe and a bakery, as the name might suggest. Although it feels a bit on the sterile/corporate side, it's a low-key, quiet place that would be a good location to get some work done away from the students, who frequent the coffee shops downtown. For my entree, I ordered the California Eggs Benedict ($8.49), which consists of poached eggs with sriracha-infused hollandaise sauce over avocado toast. While I must confess that I'm more partial to traditional Eggs Benedict, this was an interesting variant on the concept. The avocado was a spread rather than slices, which I wasn't a huge fan of (what can I say, I'm a food snob like many other Elite Yelpers...), but the other components were good. While the Hollandaise wasn't up to the standards of my Hollandaise (see above), the sriracha gave it a nice piquancy that kicked the dish up a notch (to paraphrase Emeril), and the eggs were poached nicely. The grits were alright, but nothing too spectacular--I personally prefer the grits at Another Broken Egg. Given the name of the place, I couldn't help but order a slice of cake to go ($3). I got the yellow cake frosted with chocolate icing, and it made for a delicious reward later that day after moving in. The cake was moist, and the icing was dense, sweet, and chocolatey. it was a solid piece of cake. Overall, i was quite pleased with my visit to Edgar's, and would definitely return. While i'm not sure how it stacks up to other breakfast places in T-town, it's definitely a solid option and seems like a great place to have a hot beverage and pastry with a friend or by yourself while getting some work done. read more

I ordered it with nonfat milk because typically the chai syrup is already thick and sweet enough that I don't need to overload the sugar. However, I barely tasted any chai. Just hot nonfat milk. Good news is that I love all of their pastries. I like the samples that they leave out. Anything to do lemon always gets me. They do resell pastries from the previous day, but it doesn't bother me since they're good and taste amazing. It really would be a ridiculous waste if they didn't reuse them. Why people love this place, I'll never understand. Everything I've had from here has been mediocre at best and some items were downright awful. Case in point: I recently received two cupcakes as a gift (both chocolate cake, one with vanilla frosting, the other chocolate) and though they looked fine, after taking a bite I immediately had to spit it out. The cake tasted horrendous in a way I can't quite describe and the frosting was so poorly prepared that it was gritty with sugar. Frosting shouldn't crunch, guys. The lunch items I have tried were barely worth the time it took to order them. The few times I actually have gone here, it seemed they were constantly understaffed (and from reading posts from former employees, this seems to often be the case). One time I stood in line for nearly 10 minutes just to purchase something from the bake case, but there were only about 3 people ahead of me! And lastly, they seem to have extremely poor management. On a few occasions I have had to interact with a member of management on a professional level (I won't state the nature of my work here) and have found them to be rude and condescending every time. Edgar's bakery started with a wonderfully unique menu and good service and a wide selection of bakery products. Unfortunately, the food quality and quantity has gone down hill in recent years. A friend and I ate there a few days ago and she only had a minimal amount of meat in her club sandwich. The club sandwich was only a sandwich, only being one tier. My lunch fell short as well. There are other places in the area charging comparable prices and still managing to serve good quality and quantity food. I won't be back for a while. read more

Went here for brunch on a friday and everything was phenomenal. We ordered the bread pudding pancakes (really good pancakes, but not really "bread pudding"), the vegetable quiche, and the crabcake benedict (highly recommend, you can actually taste the crab!). Ordered a strawberry rosette cake for my granddaughter's birthday.what we got was a yellow cake when strawberry was clearly visible on my order form. Of course we found this out at her birthday dinner. We had no choice other than to slice into the yellow cake. The yellow cake was awful. Looked like an old cake with absolutely no flavor and the buttercream was equally as bad with no flavor at all . Very very dry. The butter Creme was tasteless like they used very little or artificial flavoring. And there was next to zero amount of the frosting in between layers. Called to return the cake the next day. Customer service over the phone was nice enough-and told me that they would call ahead and let them know i was coming, but as soon as I entered the store that changed. The girl at the register seemed annoyed that I was returning the cake the was clearly the wrong flavor. I explained that customer service was supposed to call ahead, but apparently she didn't. She called the manager up and the manager seemed annoyed as well . They made a remark that the cake was cut into. That really did not go over well with me. Of course it was cut into how else would we have known the cake was wrong and we did try to make the best of it. Not one single time did they offer up an apology treating me as it was my fault. The manager explained that she could do a refund but could not give me a receipt, what!I finally said just give me a chocolate cake instead for a replacement because the didn't have any strawberry. They were quick to point out that the chocolate with decorations would be more by a couple of dollars. I am thinking my order was for specialty cake .I just took the plain chocolate and left. The chocolate cake was moist and the buttercream was better but still the frosting was a very thin layer on top and next to none between layers. A true baker knows better than this .
