Edgefield Animal Clinic - Veterinarians Near Me - Dallas, Texas

This review concerns abysmal treatment of my pet's needs, primarily regarding the refusal to renew a prescription for seizure medication. I have not been going to this vet for long, but nearly every time I have been there, the office manager's attitude has ranged from unpleasant to outright rude. The others who sit around the front desk are generally dismissive, but not overtly rude. My dog started having seizures in September 2022, and they became very frequent in early November 2022. We started him on the minimum dose of phenobarbital for his weight, and blood tests looking for possible causes were all negative. He has responded well to the treatment and has not had a seizure since November. The vet sold me the initial medication, then after three weeks or so, I started getting the scripts filled at a pharmacy to save money. I was told to just call when I needed a new script and they would have one for me to pick up. I complied with every request to come in for testing and monitoring. In May 2023, during a monitoring exam, I asked if the next visit could be in August, when I brought my dog for his annual shots. The vet said that would be fine. However, on July 15, 2023, I called for my script to be renewed because he was almost out of his last refill. A vet assistant told me that the vet was leaving town for two weeks after that day, and that she would only refill for seven days. I asked why could it not be filled for the usual 30, and was told that the dosage might be reduced. Highly unlikely as he was on the minimal dose, and I had asked if it was possible to try reducing it and see how he does, and the vet denied that. I explained that seven days would probably not last till the vet got back and I had the next appointment, and I even counted out the number of pills left to confirm that I would not have enough with just seven additional days (not to mention they were charging 500% of what I was getting the medication for). At this point I started imagining my dog going through his seizures again and became decidedly upset at this refusal of his medication. I asked again why they were refusing to give him his medication, and the phone was handed to the office manager, who said they would call me back. They did not. I later left two polite messages ask them to call me back before closing at 1pm, which they had implied would be my last chance to have the script issued, and they still did not return my call. The following Monday, July 17, they did call back and said they would provide the 30 day script. There was no apology or any indication that they were accountable to their complete lack of professionalism and for putting my pet in danger. There are some other problems with this clinic, which I'm guessing have worsened since the new ownership, but I'm going to limit this to the prescription issue because that is the most serious and directly endangering issue. I will not be back to this clinic, and I would suggest that others carefully consider other vets before coming to this office. UPDATE: To address the comment from the vet, as mentioned above, they did finally provide the script, but that does not absolve them from the fact that they tried to leave my pet without his meds. And the "option for medication refill till your next appointment in August" was a refill for seven days, which would have been July 30. July is NOT August, and that would have force him to go without his medication. It is absolutely not accurate that they were trying "to safeguard the health and wellbeing" of my pet . . . they deliberately tried to put him in danger, and when I tried to explain this--then on the phone and still even now--they are denying that very clear fact! Leaving my pet without his meds for even one or two days is not acceptable, and that is the minimum of damage they were doing, it could have been longer! They recommend five days notification. No one ever told me that, but it's reasonable. And I was notifying them EIGHT days before I ran out, as stated above and on the phone! All of this response is wrong, and only shows they are making excuses to cover up their harmful behavior, not being accountable to the issue they were causing. read more

This vet is inexpensive and probably fine for normal check ups, shots, etc. but not for anything more serious. The vet spent like 10 seconds examining my cat before he decided he had a bladder infection. He tried to get a urine sample by pushing on my car's bladder, which made him scream in pain. He eventually got a sample with a syringe, which I later learned is the standard way. Despite the low prices and convenient location, I won't be going back. read more

I found a Great Dane and being to the area I wasn't sure where to take him to get his chip scanned. Edgefield came out to the car and scanned him for me. When I still had him the following Monday they were able to squeeze me in for a heartworm test when all their appointments were booked. The vet was great and answered all my questions. I don't have the words to describe how excellent every aspect of this clinic truly is! My cat is my baby and everyone at Edgefield from the doctor to the front desk staff has handled every situation with sensitivity, kindness, and compassion. Dr. Ali is amazing, very knowledgeable and super nice which always puts me at ease. He's the perfect successor to Dr. K, whom I also loved. The vet assistants are so sweet, true animal lovers. The front desk ladies are always a pleasure to speak with both in-person and on the phone, which is great on its own but literally incredible in the context of our cranky modern world lol I feel so good taking my cat here -- everyone actually cares about her and acts like it too! read more

Perfect little vet clinic in Oak Cliff. I made an appointment and was seen almost immediately as I walked in. The vet is so great, nice manners and knowledgeable. They do not push you to purchase anything but the vet does give you good recommendations on what you need for your dog. The price here is affordable and no crazy prices compared to other bigger vet clinics! I will be bringing my dog here again. read more

I called the clinic because my dog was having a seizure and per the vet, blood work needs to be done right after a seizure. I made the call at 1:48 pm, I live nearby about 10 minutes away. The woman on the phone asked me how far away I lived because they were going to close at 2:00 pm. At a moment that is scary for a pet owner, that is the last thing you need to hear. I ended up telling her "not to worry about it" and "thank you" then called another vet. If you want a clinic that worries about cut off times more than your pet's well being this is the clinic for you. As for my pets, we will search for one who actually interested in my pets' health. read more

I tried coming in today for an emergency with my dog because I was referred by a friend who talks highly of this clinic but the customer service from the two ladies sitting at a desk was horrible. Instead of greeting me they just stared at me with a mug especially the big girl on the left. Didn't offer to help just said we are fully booked for today. Dr. Konnerman is nice, caring, and such a great vet! His front desk staff, however, not so much. We have been going to Edgefield Animal Clinic for many years, at least 8, and had never had such a rude experience until yesterday. Dr. Konnerman operated on our pitbull 3x and, before he passed, the front desk staff would call to follow up on him after surgery and I always thought they were nice and caring. However, Monday morning I get a call because I missed my 10:45 a.m. appointment for our new puppy's last set of shots and the lady that called was super rude. She tells me that I missed the appointment and I immediately apologized, then she says, "Well they called you Saturday to remind you and you confirmed," so I tell her that I didn't speak to anyone, and she says, "Well we spoke to someone because they have it checked off." I insist that I didn't get a call and then she tells me that they called my husband and confirmed with him and I tell her that he was actually out of town and didn't tell me and again apologize. And just when I begin to ask if I could reschedule and she says, "well ok then," and hangs up! I couldn't believe the rudeness. I call back and the other lady answers and I tell her, "I'm sorry I was just on the phone with someone but I think we got disconnected," and she is just as rude and is like, "ok." I tell her that I missed the appoint and ask if I can reschedule and she says that they don't have any appointments until Oct. 16, so I tell her that's fine I'll take what I can get, but to my surprise she tells me that I'll have to call back on Oct. 16 to see what they have available. She didn't offer me any option to reschedule at all. Basically, I missed one appointment in over 8 years and got black balled. I've recommended so many friends and family members to Edgefield Animal Clinic and never once could I ever imagine being treated so badly. I completely understand that their time is valuable and the importance of making appointments, but it was an honest mistake that has never happened before and I'm just appalled at the office staff's reaction. read more

Wow what a place!!! We called to get our dog seen. He has something going on with his mouth. Doc said to bring him in so we did. Bandit absolutely fell in love with the staff and the doc. While the VET himself is awesome.. He really needs to give his staff CUSTOMER SERVICE 101. The big girl and some other unprofessional insignificant employee have no idea just how rude they are. Dr. K is the best! He is down to earth, caring and his prices are really reasonable. His staff is helpful and kind, but they don't like when you miss appointments as they have limited operating hours. They will call to remind you for every appointment though, which is super helpful! read more

I've taken both of my dogs here for the last two years. He is by far the best vet I have been to. He is extremely honest, and very affordable. We had a serious issue with one of our dogs and he gave us several options with very honest pros and cons. The vets we used in the past had a tendency to try to "nickel and dime", this Vet is NOT like that. He often recommends over the counter alternatives, and looks for ways to make treatment affordable. I started bringing my cat here about a year ago. She had a serious problem and other vets had said she wouldn't survive. Dr. Konnerman spent a huge amount of time with her, once staying long past closing, and she's now doing great. He is everything a vet should be--warm, caring, knowledgeable, committed.
