This hotel has a lot going for it. The beds are among the most comfortable hotel beds I've ever…read moreslept in. The service staff are friendly, the breakfast is so-so & the other amenities are pretty good. The problems were there as well. The front desk is ALWAYS busy, so be prepared to wait for up to 10 minutes if you want to ask questions etc. The WiFi is pretty dang slow, so it can be painful if you want to watch something on Netflix. The first night I stayed there, I had forgotten my phone in the truck, so I set the alarm on the clock in the room to wake me instead. Lo and behold, the power went off during the night and reset the clock, so I was late to work. I was told it's a regular occurrence that the power goes out. Lovely. Then why the hell don't you have a generator so there isn't a power interruption to those of us that depend on alarm clocks? If I had known this sooner, I would have asked for a wake-up call. The place is decent, but I don't like being tardy for my job.

The rooms are modern and have always been extremely clean. Staying in hotels with work often you can really tell the places that pay attention to the details when it comes to cleaning. The beds are comfortable and the staff have always been top notch to me. Any hotel breakfast is what it is. I've enjoyed it every time I've stopped to eat in the morning. The location is great, staff and rooms are great. What more could you want?

She told us that Wednesday is customer appreciation day so there are free pizza, chicken wings, wine and beer. They had generous quantities so my wife and I happily enjoyed what could amount to a free light supper. After the refreshments we went to our room which is huge. It has a king sized bed, two big screen TV's and a couple of desks. There were no odours and the room seemed clean to us. The hotel has strong Wi-Fi, a pool, laundry facilities, and many other amenities. If you come here to use the hospital just mention that fact and there is a ten percent discount. As an aside, the Vermilion Hospital is used by people from the City of Edmonton because the city hospitals are so busy and many rural hospitals are nearly empty. It's a clever way to boost business in the town and that's the reason why I'm here. Sadly it means that I can't partake in the free hot breakfast tomorrow morning because the hospital said no food for me until after the surgery. At least my wife can enjoy it. Well back to the hotel. This is similar to hotels found in cities so it seems like it's oversized for a town of only 4,500 people but I'm sure they've done their homework and decided that there is enough business potential here. When I called around I found that the other hotels in town were only slightly less expensive, and actually more expensive when you factor in the free hot breakfast. I recommend the Pomeroy to anyone staying the night in town. I hope I don't have a medical reason to stay in Vermilion again but if I do, this is where I would certainly go to for my lodging.

While there are some minor details I had issues with, my main problem was the Wifi and the bed. I couldn't stay here again, since I can't do anything on a computer, can't work, can't surf the web, can't watch TV - nadda. Bed also made me quite uncomfortable, barely got any sleep and was exhausted the next day. I was actually tempted to check out and stay somewhere else for my second night - but since it had been paid for in advance, didn't want to deal with the hassle of trying to get a refund. Made the best of it and was more than happy to get back home. (Read a more detailed review on our blog: http://lonesomecow.ca/2016/07/4751/)

The hotel is situated right along the main highway, a short driving distance from many gas stations & restaurants. Since the town is fairly small, I suppose you could say that about anywhere in town. I had never heard of Canalta before this. It looked, and was very well presented in the lobby. The front desk staff were terrific and we were off. I have a very bad track record with hotels, as once again, I was given a room on the third floor while both of the people I was with were placed on the first floor a short walk away. WHY DO HOTELS HATE ME!? The room was awesome. Couch, desk, 2 TVs & a very comfortable bed. Here's the big problem I had : Both TVs were the same brand and model. Therefore, even when I was behind the wall seperating the main room from the bedroom, pushing a button on the remote would affect both TVs. For you non-nerds out there, this is because TVs use an infrared signal that bounces off of surfaces, and like a shotgun shell, spreads out. It gets weaker as it travels, but with a 10 foot bounce, I could still turn both TVs on with minimal effort. That wouldn't be a problem, but that there was no on or off button on either TV. Believe me, I looked everywhere for it. Even the housekeeping staff were smiling and wishing me well each day. I don't think I could even fake that with what some of those perverts were likely doing on those sheets, desks, drapes etc the night before. I was asked throughout the week if I needed my sheets changed etc as I always had the do not disturb sign on my door. Nope. I travel how I live. Sheets and towels are cleaned each week. It's unfair to ask them to do them everyday, plus I hate when the sheets are tucked in haha. I`m the type of redneck awesome that doesn`t require much from life beyond money, nerding out on a computer and playing Halo whilst riding a horse, shooting at watermelons on tree branches, and being fed popcorn out of a golden chalice. I`m pretty low maintenance. Long review, but thank you for a great stay, Canalta.
