Today's Customer Appreciation event was amazing! After a wonderful church service we headed over to Avondale. It was meant for us to dine in because after we placed our order, an employee who was serving as hostess, greeter and crowd control at the door, pointed out an empty booth. The parking lot was staging for the DJ, vendors, low riders and outside dining. We parked across the street and got in the fast moving line. It was nice to see so much support for this business. We ordered Fish & Chips, Shrimp & Chips and Catfish & Chips. They were rolling with getting the orders out and everything came out hot. The staff and other customers made for a great first dine in experience. The food was delicious. Yes, I brought bananas to enjoy with my food. I'm from the islands. :-) It was filling so we had take home for later and hubby has a meal for tomorrow. I don't eat shrimp but he said they were good. Both fish were tasty. I have been hearing about this place for over 15 years. Today I decided to order from DoorDash. The food portions are great. The food was decent. I will say that I would've been happier. Had I gotten what I ordered which was zucchini instead of french fries and I paid the extra fee with my fish, but all I received was french fries. The french fries come with no salt, which was fine with me the fish however the batter is just plain there's no real seasoning to it. My Husband and I have been trying new restaurants all over the West Valley. Tonight we tried Ed's Fish and Chips and we were so impressed! You can literally smell the food cooking when you walk in and the restaurant is very clean. We ordered the 10 piece and 7 piece shrimp and chips. We also tried the fried zucchini which was fresh and delicious! The owner Mark told us that the shrimp is breaded fresh daily. Mark also told us that the restaurant has been there for 40 years but that he just took it over last July. The shrimp had great flavor and it tasted fresh not frozen. The french fries were cooked perfectly. The staff is very friendly and the owner Mark was very welcoming. We usually eat everything on site but tonight we came home with some food. The portions are generous. Well worth the drive from Glendale or anywhere in the valley. We cannot wait to go back next Friday. We will be trying the catfish next. We highly recommend this place. Well, butter my butt and call me a biscuit... what a great surprise. Before I start, it's important to set up a basic- if odd- fact: in Arizona, fish and chips is ALWAYS a square fish patty. It's not like in other places where you get a chunk of fish that's breaded and fried. Here, It's always a patty. Ok. Continue. Yell at me or hate me but my wife and I moved to Arizona from California. Sorry. We love fish and chips and had given up on Arizona. We've had nothing but horrible, bordering-on-inedible versions from Tonopah to Superior with everything in between. This place changed our mind. Ed's is an excellent version of the classic. Why? Because they serve it up ultra fresh and they bread it themselves every day. The coating is light and crispy, browned to a perfect degree. The fish is light and fresh, and obviously cod. The flavor is excellent- almost like the delectable versions you get at seaside towns. It's really good. Second, the "chips" (the British call French fries "chips) are particularly good. Ed's has chosen a particular kind of French fry that captures the essence of a British "chip" perfectly. The fries are not greasy, they're chunky, and the flavor is excellent. They come with- of course- ketchup. Third, Ed's has a ton of combinations so it's ideal for everyone. Fish and shrimp, fish and scallops, oysters and shrimp, and they come in a wide array of combos: 2 pieces with shrimp and fries, 1 piece with scallops, 2 pieces of just fish... and dozens of others- something for everyone. Last, their other fried items are really good. If you're a scallops person, their fried scallops are really good. Same with mushrooms, shrimp, and lots of other choices. Their breading is different on each one so it's not just a vat of the same thing. My only qualm was that their zucchini wasn't my favorite. It was a bit tough and dry. But they were still decent. Ask for tartar sauce because the fish comes with a slightly spicy, tomato-based sauce which is actually very tasty. But I prefer tartar. Also ask for malt vinegar because, well, it's required with fish n chips. Ed's customer service is stellar. It's family owned and has been here for 40 years and it shows. They're very customer oriented. The manager gave us some oysters and scallops to try on the house. Talk about a rarity. The place is in a humble and dated strip mall but it's fine. Avondale is no Paradise Valley, but don't let that stop you. The place is huge inside and what struck me immediately was its cleanliness. You could do lunch or dinner here and have a good experience. It has, of course, a very casual, "vintage" vibe, so there aren't any linen tablecloths, but the food is why you come here. There's some pinball machines in the "arcade" area and lots of dated wood paneling and old photos, so it's the perfect vibe for an excellent version of classic fish and chips. You'll enjoy every bite and it's the best we've found anywhere in Arizona. Wish I could give it 4 1/2 stars. read more

No seasoning I got up to ask for cocktail sauce the guy didn't even know what that was he said they have white sauce/red sauce & tarter sauce so I asked for ketchup he asked for the container that I already had & he would refill it back up. Mind you I had just gotten my food. So he gave me 2 containers of what was supposedly be ketchup but was so thin & watered down. OMG!! It did t even have any taste to it. Also asked the guy did they have Wi-Fi he was getting ready to give me the password but the young girl at the counter said they don't have it. But it clearly showed up on my phone. And I asked for a to go box the young lady said do you want a paper bag or plastic bag. I was like how will I put my food in there. She said I will show you she came to the table with a piece of looked like waxed paper & covered my food then put it in a brown paper bag. I will stick to what I know. Have been coming here since i was a child, came in and was shocked that the workers didn't greet us like they normally would and then found out that the owners changed! The food was still good and the prices changed slightly but was such a bummer to see that the owners changed. The two working the counter didn't even say hi or welcome in and kept whispering to each other and the workers (who were not the OG's) were no where to be seen. So the fish is square frozen patties like Pete's but only tough and chewy. The shrimp is terrible. Just mostly over cooked and no taste or resemblance of fish.The lady at the front was very nice and she came and asked how it was and when explained she just replied I am Not the owner or anything. Have been coming here ever since I can remember it is pretty good I will say I love the red sauce. It can be a bit bland to those used to seasoning but some sauce definitely helps. The chicken plate and burritos are delicious. The service is amazing, workers are nice and often check in on you. They know my family well and chat with us when we visit. I will say for a while the food was different and went through a rough patch but recently it is back to what I am used to. We were looking for a new fish and chips place and we did not find it here. The service was good however. The fish were squared breading. The was a faint suggestion of fish. I tried the shrimp and it was breaded so heavily that when I peeled it off the was a piece of shrimp. No evidence of a whole piece of shrimp. This should be named Ed's fried breaded crumbs. The shrimp was barely there it was mostly breading. There was no season in the batter. Nothing had any flavor at all even the zucchini was questionable. The service was wonderful. First time here. Visiting Arizona from California To visit my girlfriend Double Dee. We stayed in a downtown Phoenix hotel and Dee *had* to have shrimp. We searched long and hard downtown all the while she'd keep mentioning this place in Goodyear called Ed's so we went there the next day (even though we did find her shrimp the night before too). Sunday Mother in law wanted fish and she wanted the catfish at Flavors of Louisiana, but they were closed on Sundays. Used yelp to find a Fish and Chips and Ed's came up. It's the closest and thought I would give it a try. The young man tending the register was very polite and attentive. The others cooking seemed like something was bothering them or having a bad day without a smile or saying hello to customers who are keeping them employed. I'll give 5 stars for the great customer service of the young man, and i would give no stars to one of cooks who needs to work on true customer service, quality, and price of the food. Girl behind counter did not explain to us about the sauce which was not tarter sauce. We told her we were from out of town beforehand. I went back three times. Frozen square fish patties, tiny shrimp in a huge amount of batter with absolutely no taste at all, and cold fries. If it weren't for the free refills it would have earned a 1.
