But I WAS surprised that in bike city no one came up with this idea erlier. I saved their number on my mobile phone despite my naive hope that I'll never have to call them. Shortly after I had to and I was thankful to hear that one of them was in the hood and I didn't have to wait too long. The guy came equipped with spare wheel, bike pump and toolset. The bike was quickly fixed and I don't remember what the service cost but I do remember that it is very good value for money and no extra urgency charge. So, I recommend everyone to save the number of DAFT to get quick hassle-free help in bike emergencies.

He went above and beyond to fix my husband's bike. He put the pedal crank back on, tightened a few things and oiled the chain. Very nice guy. I emailed them over a holiday weekend, so it took a little while to get a response since we had to go back and forth a bit. Very convenient, but I had to wait an extra day since they couldn't meet me until after 11am. And even though I asked for the price ahead of time, they forgot to send it to me. Though, I think the cost was reasonable. I would just make sure you know the price before you go if it's not already on the price list. You can pay in cash or they will invoice you and you can transfer the funds that day. They have an app, but it's iOS only for now. :(

We were in Amsterdam for only about half a day, staying at an airport hotel. We decided to drive…read moredowntown and check the area out. We soon discovered driving was not the best option. There were people riding bikes everywhere, there were many more bikes than cars. Almost to the point of being dangerous. We found a parking garage near the bike rentals and opted to rent bikes. The bike rental was $7.50 per hour or $11.50 for three hours, they also provide locks. The bikes are 3 speed cruiser style with front and rear brakes on the handles. We held the bikes with a credit card and were on our way. Armed with a map, we set out on a biking adventure. We rode all over the immediate downtown area, even stopped for a beer while seated outside. After a few hours, we headed back to return the bikes and continue our journey. I would highly recommend parking the car and renting bikes. It is so much easier and this place made it simple. It is also in a great central location with garage parking nearby. Great experience!!

The city seems to encourage cycling for transport and has made it quite convenient for a bicyclist to maneuver around town. Bicycle lanes line all major roads and places to lock up are plentiful! Word of warning which comes from my personal experience: take extra care to be sure your bike is properly chained when leaving it to explore by foot. I have experienced the misfortune of returning to where I parked and locked (or so I thought) my bike and discovering my (borrowed) bike had disappeared. Holland Rent A Bike is the best and now only place I will go for rental when in town. The bikes are impeccably maintained, granted these are older style cycles, but I've never had to return during a rental period requiring repair. They provide a heavy duty lock and all bikes have a mounted back wheel lock. Best bonus: their rentals are not obvious tourist targets in that they are not brightly colored, covered with ads of the shop in which they are from. The staff is friendly and will make sure you ride out on cycle fit to your size. The price is more than reasonable and if you're renting for an extended period of time, you may even receive a discount. If you want to get around A'dam in style, Holland Rent a Bike will hook you up!
