As dining in the downtown Chicago area goes, this totally fits the description of an "out of the way place". Thankfully my dining partner used the GPS function on her cell and we found it with no problem. The hidden "factor" proved to be a good thing though. It was Columbus Day - post marathon in Chicago and everyone and their mother wanted to eat breakfast at 9AM. We opted for the 30 minute wait at Eggy's vs. the hour and a half wait at the much more visible Wildberry's in the Prudential Building. The menu had good variety and prices were pretty reasonable. We were greeted promptly after being seated and overall, the service was pretty prompt. My friend had an egg platter that she thoroughly enjoyed. I ordered Corned Beef Hash - I asked if it was homemade or canned and the waiter acknowledged the latter. When I'm in the mood for the canned stuff, it's no big deal - though I've discovered some places that make some awesome homemade hash that I've really enjoyed of late. But I took the canned stuff with the waiter's assurance that it was really good. All in all, it was OK. And while it doesn't truly affect the taste of the food, someone should work with the cooks there on their plate presentation. My breakfast looked about as plain as a breakfast can look. On food alone, this place would rank three stars in my book. But given the prompt, attentive and positive attitude of our server, I'll give it four. read more

I love Eggy's! It's somewhat of a hidden gem in the "new east side." The wait time for brunch is rarely too long, and you can sit and wait near the park outside, which is much more pleasant. The breakfast potatoes are legit, and everything else I've tried was great too. Though I would primarily recommend this place for breakfast or brunch, the lunch menu is pretty solid as well. The only downside I can think of is that the coffee seems unreasonably expensive, but that's minor. read more

Ok so happy to have sound Eggy's! First of all the hostess today was fantastic we were greeted with the friendliest smile & she was so sweet to get both doors for us since I had my stroller with me! We were seated right away which with a 2 year old is awesome! The vibe of the whole restaurant was great, music was great (you would have caught my little guy dancing during breakfast), the whole place was cute & had tons of tables! There were so many things on the menu but I've heard great things about the chilaquiles so I figured it was time to finally try that dish out! Guys it didn't disappoint! It was so so good,from the tortilla chips (still crunchy and not soggy and gross), to the chorizo (perfect protein choice), and all the toppings were perfectly matched! I'd totally recommend it! My little guy ordered the silver dollar pancakes which for a kid portion was huge...and FYI he didn't let anyone touch his pancakes OR his bacon...he at least shared a strip of bacon with me which was nice and crispy. Before we knew it 2 hours had passed & it was nap time but we didn't feel rushed in any way and it felt like you were having breakfast at a friends house! Eggy's diner is a staple in our household. We come here pretty much every weekend and now have the Saturday waitlisting down to a science. It roughly takes an hour to get a seat on Saturday brunch rush hour but the wait is worth it. The menu was lengthy with so many delicious-looking breakfast options - it was hard to make a decision, but we did it... and were impressed! The Pastrami Hash was outstanding thanks to it being packed with protein, fennel and carrots... so different and tasty. It could've used more potatoes (crispy and full of flavor!) and the horseradish sauce sadly wasn't included, but can't be mad because it was still super satisfying. Also... phenomenal French Toast with apples and strawberries, a hearty side of a biscuit/gravy and a perfect single pancake with warm syrup. This is a nice little diner located right in the heart of downtown Chicago. It has a large variety of different items available for breakfast and lunch. No fancy coffee options just regular hot coffee. I wish there were a few more options that weren't alcoholic. The items are all of large size portions and they have many typical brunch deli items. They also have specials each week. When we went there was a salmon frittata on specially serviced with potatoes. This was mixed with asparagus and topped with goat cheese. It was very large and the best of the three dishes we tried that day. I also tried the benedict biscuits and gravy. This was quite a disappointment. It was very very big and had two large biscuits, sausages, and poached eggs. The dish was beyond drenched in gravy. Normally I enjoy some gravy but this was just too much and it was hard to taste the other flavors as it was just covered in gravy.
