Inside in the back is an astronomical clock which is very cool to watch all the pieces moving when it chimes. For those who want a little workout adventure there is a 332 step climb to a platform for city views. Definitely plan to stop in and take a look at this UNESCO World Heritage Site if you get a chance.

It's an overall beautiful cathedral with an interesting history and even hosted the worlds tallest structure for many years. Definitely worth a visit!

There is a nominal charge, which will make sense to you later if you are in the area around the clock with 400 people, only so many people can fit The video is excellent, and is presented in French, German, and English. The clock itself is a treasured masterpiece of clock-making, astronomy, and mathematics. The storytelling is very good, as well.

It's still working, but it is blocked by scaffolding partly. Hard to take a photo of the whole thing just because of location, people, lighting and repair work, but still a wonder to behold. The structure was built by Margrave Hermann V (the Pious, 1160-1243). It experienced a significant reconstruction in 1867 that added a Gothic theme and more updates and remodels since. I did not tour the cemetery (too cold today!) but this is the final resting place of the Markgrafschaft Baden from when Baden was a territory of the Holy Roman Empire in 1112 and eventually unified with the Grand Duchy of Baden in 1806. In part it would be surprising that one would find a Protestant Church in France, especially one as…read moreold as this, but the thing is that this is Strasbourg, and it's inclusion in France has been challenged and disputed over the ages (and numerous wars have been fought over it as well). Anyway, it is one of those old churches, and a protestant church as well, but it turns out that it actually retains all of its art, which I have to admit is actually pretty cool. It may not be as fancy as some, but I still quite liked it.
