So wish I'd checked some reviews before booking a deal at Ego. I went for a half-head highlights and cut/blow-dry. The hairdresser seemed very nervous and I found out by overhearing a conversation with the owner that she was an apprentice! My 'blonde highlights' have basically come out solid ginger. And the cut? Well I don't think she understood what an 'inch' is. I asked for 1.5-2 inches off the length and layers but you cannot tell I've had my hair cut all my broken and split ends are still there. For a full time mum with little time or money this was supposed to real treat, but I've come away feeling totally ripped off and really wish I'd complained. Can't believe they think this a good way to run a business they will certainly NOT see me again. read more

I purchased a KGB deal for half a head of highlights, a Moroccan Oil treatment and a cut and I had a pretty similar experience to the majority of other reviews on here. My appointment was booked for 9.30am. I turned up at 9.30am and was told they don't open until 10! I went to look round the charity shop and came back at 10. The stylist offered me a cup of tea which was luke warm because she had to go out and buy milk whilst making it. I only drank a few sips out of politeness. Now you would expect a hairdresser to have nice hair themselves but she had badly bleached hair with horrible roots. Doesn't exactly fill you with confidence. My hair is really long and I said that I wanted a trim and a tidy up of my layers. The hairdresser said she would cut my hair dry because there was no point putting bleach on the bits she was going to cut off. I thought that was odd but went along with it anyway. So she did my highlights but I didn't really pay much attention and read a magazine as I hate hairdresser chit chat. When she took out the foils to wash my hair she basically ripped them out which was so painful. I normally like having someone wash my hair at the hairdressers but this was so bloody painful. The 'Moroccan Oil treatment' was basically conditioner. She started to comb by hair out but it was very notty. My hair doesn't normally get that notty so I don't know what she did to it. She asked me if I wanted to comb it out myself, which I did because she was hurting me. At this point I thought she might check the cut was right and tidy up the layers but no. I didn't actually want her to because by this point I had absolutely no faith in her at all. She blow dried by hair using a skanky old brush and ripping through the tangles. I swear she put more split ends in than she cut out. Overall I was pretty unimpressed although it was cheap. I guess you get what you pay for. I would not recommend this salon to a friend. read more

0 out of 5 if I had a choice! I had my hair done at this salon last week and would definitely not recommend going here. I had one of the worst experiences and would never return. I had got a full head highlights with cut and moroccan oil treatment voucher through KGB. Now I am always weary of such things as it was a great value, but little did I realise what I'd be getting for my money. Salon seems pretty nice but from start to finish the service was abominable. The girl that was serving me was young and didn't seem too enamored to be actually working there. I explained to her what I wanted and the colour touch up that I wanted, ensuring that I wouldn't end up with the streaks that one of the others reviewers mentioned. The girl then asked me what were the number of colours I had in before, the percentage of bleach now I'm not in the habit of asking these details from my hairdresser I assume that they know! So I was a little shocked when she said that she'd have a go at trying to mix the right colours!! Imagine'have a go' being said and you thinking you're in a professional salon. She proceeded to hack at my hair dividing it up, there certainly didn't seem to be many foils put in, but I assumed she knew what she was doing. She then left me for about an hour. The manager during this time was giving out about a salon across the road and about how they are competing for the same clientele, which I thought was rude. Then the manager said she was off to pick up her kids and would my stylist complete the girls hair beside me. She said ok, was very nervous. The client beside me had afro hair and the stylist then proceeded to tell her she wasn't trained in afro hair, had never done any and she'd had to advise her on what to do. So basically the client had to explain to the stylist step by step what to do to keep her hair in check. She was about to leave it looking in a right state, when the client said that it needed more work and straightening. The stylist just kept saying 'do you have to do this every time you wash your hair? that's mad'. Anyway after finishing with her, she brought me up to the sink, ripped the foils out of my hair, tears running down my face, telling her to go easy, she said that it was cos my hair was so long. (i've had my hair done every 3 months for the last 10 years and never have I cried in the chair when they've taken out the foils). She put the moroccan oil treatment on, and i waited 15 mins. I went back to the chair and my hair was really knotty, no conditioner was put in my hair or detangler, and she was trying to brush it with a combthat wasn't going to happen. The hair was nearly being ripped out of my head. She then said could I just comb it out, as it's just too hardI took the brush and did it, with ease! SHe asked if I wanted a cut, I said yes, just a trim but I have layers, so across all my hair. She found it difficult to divide up my hair, so must be extremely inexperieced as that's a basic skill! She then just gave up, brushed all my hair to my back, took the scissors and cut straight across! Not exactly what you'd expect from a professional hair salon! Then she started drying my hair with her fingers, flicking it here and there, and I'm thinking it's going to be a right pain having to detangle again, considering she couldn't do it the last time. She dried it and then said it was readyI was looking like i had been in a hurricane with my hair all over the place. I said I wanted it straight, and she said really, she had another client to attend to!!! I stood my ground and said if she had straighteners that she could useshe ran it through the back of my hair and I couldn't stand it anymore. I felt very sorry for the girl waiting she looked so worried as the stylist was 'finishing' my hair. 3 hours of being in the salon with an inexperienced stylist, who had no interest in what she was doing, had the attitude of a teenage girl rather than the twenty-something that she was. I really couldn't berate this salon enoughvery poor indeed. I put my hair up as I was leaving as I was so disgusted with it. I have had to go to another salon a few days later to get the cut and colour that it actually neededwith professional stylists and a relaxing time rather than the stressful time I had there. I've advised friends since about their appointments and to change the stylist from that girlperhaps there is someone else there better but I have my doubts about it! Never again! read more

I can't believe how similar all of these reviews are to my AWFUL experience at this hair salon! I bought a voucher for EGO salon from LivingSocial deals full head highlights, restyle and treatment. When I called up to book my appointment I was told that I'd have to wait 5 weeks for the next appointment. Who waits 5 weeks to get their hair done?! But I had no choice in the matter as LivingSocial don't let you return the voucher after 7 days so I booked the appointment. I arrived for my 1pm appointment at 12.30. I was happy to wait the half an hour as I'd come early. They kept me waiting until 1.40pm (40 mins after my appointment time). During this time the owner of the salon and her sidekick were stood at the reception desk sorting out a mobile phone bill!!!! I was finally offered a cup of tea at 1.30pm. The owner went off to make it and came back for some more chatting with her friend before I finally got my tea lukewarm as she'd been chatting so long! If I hadn't had a deal with LivingSocial, I would have walked out by this point - I'm sure they were well aware of the fact that they had my money before I even walked into the place. The person who did my hair is called Hannah Mills, she is billed as a nail technician on their website. WHY ON EARTH was she doing my hair Ego Hair Salon? Whilst doing my highlights she showed very shoddy workmanship, she didn't let me know how long the dye would be on my hair for, she just walked off to eat her lunch! I had to ask how long itd be to which she flippantly replied oh about 10 minutes!. She was so rough with my hair I was actually in pain and she ripped the foils out without unwrapping them which another person has also said in her review!! The bottom highlights had been on my hair for a good hour by this point. Then when she washed my highlights out, she started taking the top ones out first making it uneven they had been on my head for 20 minutes while the bottom ones had been on for 1hour30mins! Then it was time for the haircut, and the results are TERRIBLE. I showed her two pictures of the haircut I wanted, a bob with a sweeping side fringe. I am usually not a person who likes confrontation and I rarely complain, but I actually stopped the haircut halfway through because it was absolutely ridiculous what she had done to my fringe and after 4 hours of getting more and more upset I finally said this is ridiculous! She cut it so unevenly, I now have a random short tuft at the front of my head which will take months to grow out. My hair looks horrible now unless its clipped up. The owner and the girl doing my hair tried to make excuses and told me I had said I wanted it like this!! I could tell they knew theyd screwed it up as they started brushing my hair to the other side to hide the huge uneven chunk!! Such awful service and I really hope nobody ever goes here again please don't!!!!!!! EGO SALON I WILL NEVER EVER COME TO YOU AGAIN NOR RECOMMEND YOU TO ANYONE! YOU MADE ME SO UPSET I CRIED WHEN I LEFT YOUR SALON ITS JUST LUCKY FOR YOU THAT YOU HAD MY MONEY BEFORE I EVEN WALKED IN!!!!!!! read more

If I could give this hair salon no stars I would! Yesterday I had the worst service I have ever received from a hair salon in my life. I had a voucher deal from the Internet for a full head of highlights Moroccan oil treatment and cut and blow dry. I left feeling terribly upset and my hair was a mess! Here is how the story goes. My hair ended up looking as if it had big chunky stripes in it, already looked as though I had completely wonky, slanted roots that were ginger turning blonde further down my hair. My stylist had to stop half way through to give somebody a Hollywood wax WTF is that about!!!!! As a result half of my highlights were alot blonder than the other half. To have my highlights done took FOUR AND A HALF HOURS so I therefore left without having the moroccan oil treatment and the cut and blow dry done as I needed to get home to my 8 week old baby. I cannot believe it took so long to just do highlights, I have since dyed my hair dark brown myself as I wanted to be sick every time I looked in the mirror. Whilst in the salon one person who worked there (I can imagine she was the manager) was sat doing her nails while the two girls struggled to get everything done. Towards the end of my 'treatment' another client turned up and the stylist went to start her highlights and discovered that they had run out of bleach!!!!!! The manager had left so the two girls were left wondering what to do so they actually went to boots leaving the client just sat there waiting. I can't believe they went to boots to buy bleach!!!!!!! What the hell! Worst experience ever. Don't ever ever get your hair cut here! read more

I bought a KGB deal for ultimate hair package for half head of highlights, wash, cut, blowdry and Moroccon oil treatment. The only day Ego Hair Salon has late appointments is Thursday. So I booked their latest available appointment on Thursday 15 November 2012 at 5pm. Today is Thursday 15 November 2012, I took time off work to be on time for my appointment. But when I turned up at the salon at 4.50pm I found that the lights were off, door locked and a closed sign in the door. This was despite the fact that just under the closed sign, the advertised opening hours for Thursday are 10am-8pm. I telephoned but no one answered. I waited outside until 5pm giving them the benefit of the doubt that they may return from a short break, but it became clear that no one would be returning to the salon today. Very unprofessional to not honour appointments with no notice of cancellation. Does not build trust and confidence in the service for a new client. In some ways I am fortunate not to have my hair cut by these cowboys, having just read the reviews here. I WILL NOT be returning, and will be raising a complaint with the trading standards. read more

Terrible. I was hardly consulted on the colour it turned out bright red instead of warm brown. The stylist who had talked about my colour and style disappear and I was then taken over by a student who also abandoned me and went shopping. It was then decided that she would cut it and at this point I had to refuse. The first girl agreed to cut it and even she seemed nervous and inexperience. They rectified the colour and the cut was damage limitation by hardly cutting it at all. No one at any point apologised for my dreadful 3 hours which was meant to be relaxing time. Unprofessional and I would NOT return read more

I chose this salon as they do mixed race hair. Terrible salon and service cheated out of promotional discount. Made a complaint but Tiffany the owner has not tried to rectify the situation. I am now having to make a formal complaint to get money back (a hairdresser with no qualifications). Do not use not even offered a cup of tea. I will stick to my professional modern London salon where such treatment would never happen. read more

Terrible service wanted a restyle and got a trim with a chunk out of the back of my hair had to go to another hairdressers to rectify. Cut by a trainee I think as she was very nervous and not sure what to do!!! Staff talking about clients as they left the shop making comments about how horrible the colour was what they had put on. I would never go back even if they paid me UNPROFESSSIONAL read more

I loved the fact that I could get a professional hairdressing service for my afro hair and not pay a fortune! I had a lovely moroccan oil steam treatment which was recommended to me by the owner and I left with my hair feeling soft and nourished. I really enjoyed the multi cultural vibe that the salon had offering services for all hair types. I would definitely recommend : ) read more
