If you're planning a group dinner meeting, just be aware that the sliding doors don't completely block out the noise from the dining room, so conversations may not be as secluded as you'd expect. That said, the food is consistently outstanding. The heirloom tomato salad is an absolute must-order. The crème fraîche dressing is incredible. Pro tip: save some bread to soak up every last bit of it. For the main course, the mesquite-smoked carne asada is exceptional. The meat is cooked perfectly, and the combination of pinto beans, ranchera sauce, and slightly sweet corn pudding creates a balanced and memorable dish. The portions are thoughtfully sized! Came here with a group of 8 girls for a friends 40th birthday! The place is so cool inside--lots of rooms, all with a different decor or theme. Our server was wonderful, he was attentive all night and had a great positive attitude. Three of us ordered the sea bass which was absolutely amazing. Full of flavor, and a delicious sauce to go with the meal. One person ordered the fried chicken, and she felt the chicken was pretty flavorless but the side was good. A couple girls ordered the carne asada, and really enjoyed that as well. I'd say the biggest miss for our group was with the drinks. One gal ordered a vodka soda with lots of lemons. She recieved a literal glass of vodka, full, with a whole bottle of sparkling water on the side. This was so odd, but we're not the type to send things back so she went with it. Another lady ordered the manhattan and the server noticed immediately that it didn't look quite right, and had that fixed. It had come with an orange slice and no vermouth originally. It is always a pleasure to dine at Eight4Nine. The staff are amazing and beautiful. Service is fantastic. The food is always top shelf. You can't go wrong here. The building is large, bright, and nicely decorated. Its history is interesting. I was told that first it was the US Post Office. Then a furniture store. For the last ten-plus years, it has been Eight4Nine. Tonight, I started with the Ahi Tuna Poke. It was really fresh with a nice blend of Asian flavors. Nicely chilled, it was perfect for a hot night. My entree was the delicious Carne Asada. The skirt steak was sliced thin and it had a smokey hardwood grilled flavor to it. The refried pinto beans were a nice complement to the meal. Surprised this place doesn't have 5.0 rating. When we went we had a cute weekend with our daughter so we were pleased that they had mocktails. Then we found out our server Debbie (who was amazing by the way) was sober. She told us her sobriety date which was exact same as my moms! Just thought that was so neat. Eight4Nine is located right in downtown Palm Springs and has a large outdoor patio that's heated, dog-friendly, and able to accommodate larger groups. We had our dogs with us and were seated outside right away by the GM (possibly the owner), who was welcoming and attentive. When our heater didn't work, he quickly replaced it and checked back in when it looked like our server hadn't arrived yet (he had and was just grabbing our drinks). There's also an indoor dining option upstairs that feels quiet and removed from the street. Service here is on the slower side, which we noticed throughout the patio, not just at our table. It didn't feel inattentive so much as unhurried, like the restaurant encourages you to settle in and enjoy the evening rather than rush through a meal. Our server was friendly, made a few jokes, and kept things light, even if we didn't see him often. We started with the corn and crab chowder, though the menu description was confusing regarding the crab. The entree is where things fell a bit flat for me. I ordered the bucatini and found the fennel overpowering. I only ate about a quarter of it, which was disappointing since this was my birthday dinner. The restaurant was packed, and it's a pretty large place, so even though we arrived right on time, we still waited about 15 minutes to be seated. Service felt off from the start. Our server was MIA for long stretches, and there were unusually long gaps between courses. Once we finished our meal, we waited at least 30 minutes before he checked on us, and then even longer to receive the bill. For the price of the fixed menu, it just didn't feel worth it. This is a 5+++++ review! I rented one of the rooms for a corporate function, and the entire experience was exceptional from start to finish. The team was incredibly easy to work with and completely accommodating throughout the planning process. When we arrived, the tables were beautifully decorated and everything was perfectly set up. The staff was absolutely wonderful and professional. Lynn and Delia were hands down the best servers -- they truly made the evening special for both me and my guests. They went above and beyond in every way. When we were running out of time, they even helped us stuff gift boxes. They rearranged the room multiple times without hesitation and tracked down a USB cord for us -- none of which was technically their responsibility, but they did whatever we needed with a smile. The food was outstanding. The ahi appetizer was my personal favorite, though many of my guests raved about the Reuben (not usually my thing). The fried bacon with maple syrup was pure perfection. The Chicken Milanese was absolutely to die for -- the beurre blanc cream sauce was rich and flavorful, and the capers added the perfect finishing touch. And dessert... the 849 caramel macchiato cake was incredible -- light, airy, and completely delicious. We attend this conference every year, and after this experience, we will absolutely be back. Loved having our wedding welcome party at one of my favorite restaurants in Palm Springs, Eight4Nine, and wanted to share the same wonderful experience with my guests that we have when we dine there! First of all , Josh Calderon, the manager/events coordinator. is amazing to work with; providing several options for me even when my date and headcount seemed to constantly change. He was very responsive, always accommodating and just the best to communicate with. The front patio was perfect for our event of just over 40 people; easy to find for our guests and provided just enough space for us to mingle as well as sit and chat. Coming from our rehearsal, our space was ready on arrival and we were greeted warmly by the staff. The service was impeccable, extremely attentive and still warm and friendly. It was unusually hot that evening (yes, even hotter than expected for Palm Springs!) so the overhead misters spaced throughout were lovely and gave our guests that just arrived from a long drive down from the Bay Area, a nice welcome and a reprieve from the heat. And, as expected, the passed hors d' oeuvres were fantastic and there always seemed to be a server there to offer my guests with a new treat! We felt very attended to and were never in need of anything. Sadly, Josh was not there during our welcome party and I wanted to say thank you to him in person. I had been waiting to go to this restaurant for months. The price point is high so I wanted to save it for a special occasion so we waited to go for my birthday this year. I will say the ambience is amazing sitting outside. It was very nice and the service was great as well as our server was very friendly and professional. Also having the lights around outside, made it very calming. Although the service and ambience was great the food was lacking. There isn't a lot of options on the menu so it was hard to make a choice, but we went with the Carne Asada plate and the ravioli. Both my boyfriend and I once we ate our food, we were not satisfied and we actually had to go get more food because of the portion was so small for him. He needed extra. I was also not happy with the ravioli. It had an odd taste and was not very impressed. I don't think we'll be back here again, but it was good to try it out, but I'll stick with some of my other favorite restaurants in Palm Springs such as sand fish. read more

This is such a cute place! We loved the art work on the walls and the fact that they had purse trees/hangers to place your purse during your visit. The Chilaquiles were delicious. I loved the flavor, but there was not enough spice for me. They were not soggy, but not crunchy either. I guess a good place in the middle. Short rib hash was absolutely delicious. Great flavor. Made a reservation here to host my friend's bachelorette party in one of their private rooms and it ended up being the perfect spot. The interior is such a vibe, very Hollywood glamour with a fun, elevated atmosphere. The host, wait staff, and manager were all very friendly and accommodating. We did the summer menu for the group, which included an appetizer, entree, and dessert for $54. Honestly an amazing value for how generous the portions were. I started with the farm glazed carrots which were tender and paired nicely with the hummus. For my entree, I had the braised short rib which was a massive slab of tender meat with asparagus on the side that was equally huge but surprisingly tender. For dessert, I had the lemon lavender creme brulee which was too sweet for my taste. The top sugar layer was too thick and I couldn't really taste the lemon. My wife and I dined at 849 for Easter Brunch and were sorely disappointed - sorely disappointed. We spent nearly $200 on 2 x adult prix fixe brunches ($130) and 1 x child prix fixe ($32) + tax + gratuity. If i can deter at least 50 other prospective guests from eating here, then what we paid will have been worth it to me. Separately, if you think i am being harsh, read the other 1 star reviews of guest experiences at 849. Pros: the staff and management were accommodating. We had an outdoor seat and they allowed us to sit inside because it was hot on the patio even with the misters. Also, the restaurant is nicely appointed, the ambiance is nice, and very "palm springs." Right up our alley. Cons: My lunch consisted of a 4 oz Spring mix salad with tarragon dressing. At best my salad, even by PS standards, was worth $10. My entree was a Steelhead Trout Nicoise with a decent serving of olives, potatoes, green beans and capers. At best, it was worth $25 to $30 compared to Nicoise salads I have enjoyed in Napa, San Francisco, Old Town Alexandria, and France. To round off brunch, i had the strawberry shortcake with Chantilly cream and 4 strawberries. Clearly, the strawberry shortcake was either made last night and left in the fridge overnight or it was made earlier this morning and in the fridge since then. Either way, the shortcake was flavorless and cold. At best, this was worth $12.00 My wife's lunch consisted of a watermelon gazpacho that was, at best worth, $12.00. She had their renowned 1/3 Angus burger with all the fixings and a side of fries. At best, her hamburger is worth $25. Then she had mocha cake with buttercream frosting. At best the cake was worth $12.00. It too appeared to be made earlier in the day or the day prior. My son's lunch consisted of a cinnamon roll that was, at best, worth $10.00. If you know of a cinnamon roll that's worth more, let me know. Then he had 2 monster pancakes that even the best logger in the world could not finish. Regardless, the pancakes were at best worth $20.00. He then concluded his meal with 1 scoop of vanilla ice cream/Gelato, worth about $8.00. I get this is Palm Springs, CA, and i get this is Easter Weekend, but we have been visiting PS regularly since 2010 have dined at restaurants such the Edge, The Front Porch, Desert Moon, Roy's, Tommy Bahamas, and The Farm, so we are well aware of what restaurants are charging. I have ZERO qualms spending $300, $400, or even $500 for a decent brunch for 3 guests. But, i do take umbrage with getting raked over the coals for Easter Brunch. I truly cannot say enough good things about Eight4Nine catering. We recently held a celebration of life for my late husband with over 100 guests, and their team exceeded every expectation. From start to finish, the staff was both professional and incredibly gracious to all of our guests. Their kindness and attentiveness did not go unnoticed and made such a meaningful difference on an emotional day. The bartenders were especially warm and friendly, helping to make the day feel just a little bit easier for everyone. We went to Eight4Nine at lunchtime and were delighted by the food, service, and attentiveness. The quality of the restaurant has been consistent ever since we started coming here over 4 years ago. Lunch today was no different. The place is impeccably maintained and many of the staff have been there for years which explains the consistency of the service. The host, Tom Collins (yes, that really is his name, and no, he didn't invent the eponymous cocktail), is always friendly and good humored. I had the ahi tuna poke bowl which was beautifully presented and way more sumptuous for lunch than needed. But every bite was fresh and delightful. My wife had the chile relleno that was well presented and delicious, though again quite big. The ambiance of the restaurant is elegant and very much reflects the mid-century Palm Springs vibe.
