We usually order from this place in my office not only for lunch, but for catering which often exceeds $200. We call today to make sure they deliver and we were confirmed that they do, great! Advised them we would return the call in a few minutes once we got everyone's order. NOT EVEN FIVE MINUTES LATER I call to place the order when Vera told me no, they are not delivering. I tried to get clarification as to who was confused, her or whoever the person I spoke to was. Vera (if that is her real name, that's the one she gave me) told me "yes we deliver but we are not going to right now." Uh, what!? Mind you we are not even 5 minutes away in car or bike. I asked as to what changed, since we order heavily from them, and large quantities to which she responded "well you're not gifting us any money, you get food in exchange but you won't get it today." WOW! Great service! Great respect to the clientele! According to Vera this change was from the manager, Marylin who apparently was not there and will be there in an hour. SO, how does a policy change in five minutes from someone who is not in the restaurant!? Save yourself bad service, go to La Candela II only 7 minutes away. Not only do they have a larger parking, but better and friendlier service. We will never order from El Ajicito again and they lost our catering business which we order every two-three weeks from them. We were headed to the Elton John concert from New Jersey and Googled a spot to get a bite to eat. This place exceeded all our expectations, hopes and dreams of a great place!!! From start to finish we enjoyed every freshly prepared and delicious morsel! From the delicious complementary dip on the table, to the spectacular sangria, to the most delicious skirt steak that we have EVER tasted, we are planning a trip to go back. We want to try EVERYTHING on the menu based on the parade of fabulous looking dishes that passed all around us. The staff couldn't have been more perfect! My family wanted to try this Peruvian spot in Hempstead for Saturday dinner. Ended up eating the churrasco, a couple of types of ceviche, and yucca. Everything that we had was so good. The green and yellow sauce that our waiter brought out had just the right amount of heat and went so well with the rice/beans. I was working 5 minutes away from there over last weekend. As a good Peruvian I won't recommend anyone to even try it. Saturday I order jalea was ok but nothing amazing. Their chaufa mixto barely find some seafood there the hot sauce has so much Mayo in it that you could even taste it. They didn't have plates to go and silverware on top of that the girl that was there wasn't smart enough to give me some to go containers at least and I asked her. I went back on Sunday to give them a second chance and got worse, the pollo a la brasa was salty, their beans are not how we make it in Peru (their beans are from cans), salad didn't have dressing or lime juice, the girl that helped me at least gave me some to go containers to eat on a plate. food was just ok, had dinner there earlier this week they kept trying to push the entrana on every dish we requested also, they charged gratuity up front even though we were only a party of 2 and bill was approx $70, they charged a credit card use fee $3.50 and worse after processing the credit card they only bring a new credit card receipt with an open line for the tip but dont bring the original receipt that states the tip was already charged, so 9 out 10 end up double tipping, totally unethical, scammers! also my son placed a to go order for lomo salteado mixto I just saw my account and noticed he was charged $29.67 for that 1 order included $1 extra for the sauce I just called them and they said it was probably made with entrana meat, my son was never asked or advised of the extra $10 charge, Needless to say I will not be returning Im a business owner and do not take advantage of my customers will not allow them to read more

This is a very unassuming place in a very Central American area. From the outside it doesn't look like much but it is very nice and clean inside. There is a shopping center nearby, but its quite a trek but no worries there is street parking on each side with meters only in effect apparently on the weekend and holidays. I am not super familiar with the area so there could be more insider secrets. All I know is that I wanted Peruvian and thats what I got. Yum. My rule of them for more obscure ethnic foods is look at the clientele, if they fit the surroundings the its probably a good spot. And this place fit the bill, I saw many of my mountain counterparts. :) I ordered Pargo Frito ( Fried Red Snapper) and a tamal. The snapper came with rice and a salad with the green salsa (sauce) not sure of the name but it was awesome. The tamale was delicious hit has pork,egg, olives and came with a side of pickled onions. My fried ordered Bistec al poorer ( Poorman's cubed steak). The steak itself was tasty charred and juicy at the same time. It was topped with hard fried eggs and buried some madras (ripen plantains) and rice on the side as well as french fried. I also wanted something truly Peruvian so I ordered Chicha Morado. Which is pretty much corn punch, delicious and refreshing. It was an interesting taste, fruity and a lot of spices like cinnamon and cloves. Overall, I really enjoyed this place. Decided to grab a bite after work with my coworkers and stumbled across this place on yelp... and let me tell you IT IS WORTH IT. The food was delicious. We started off with the Jalea for 2 (there was 3 of us) which was more than enough food and super tasty. I also got the entraña but was so full I could only have 2 bites and took the rest home. My coworkers enjoyed his lomo. I love salad ; the salad and dressing were on point!! The service was also very friendly. Our waiter even suggested menu items we might enjoy that we added to our meal. P.S. you know when you go to a restaurant and you ask for lemon or napkins... and they come back and bring you only 2 of each? They didn't do that and I couldn't be more thrilled. Being that I married a Peruvian, I am quite familiar with Peruvian cuisine and often seek it when working in Latino neighborhoods like Hempstead. My friend and I were quite pleased with our meal here, as the flavors were authentic and the ingredients were of good quality. I started with a Leche de Tigre, which was delicious and well balanced, and a fish entrée in garlic sauce. The fish was OK, but the breading was a little soggy. The dish could've used a little less oil as well. My friend had Lomo Saltado loved it. The Chicha Morada was also good, and our young server was bubbly and friendly. Everything was going smooth until we got our food... the server bough out our entrees and I asked where our appetizers were, she said they're coming out and I asked if they're appetizers why would She bring them with the entrees... rudely she said well you should've said you wanted them as an appetizer, I said I mean if the food I ordered is under "appetizers" its an appetizers unless other wise asked for.. she literally kept arguing trying to make it seem like it was my fault, as a good customer I took everything instead of sending it back, after that happened she never came back to our table to ask if we needed anything or make sure we were good. I knew I was not wrong when another customer had an issue with her too. To make the story short the food wasn't food at all either so we barely ate, mind you it was me, my boyfriend and my son who were dining when I asked for the bill I had to ask her co worker and I never got the bill to my table, I had to go to the front and ask where I had to pay... she rudely told me to "come here" to the table where she was eating and handed me a receipt that already included 15% gratuity and I asked why she took the tip if its only a party of 3 not 6, again she rudely said its restaurant policy! At this point I no longer wanted to argue nor be there anymore and paid and left. My cousin is a regular there and told me they never dis that to him unless the bill is over 120$ and our bill was $70 ! Would not recommend this to anyone !! We ordered a chicken combo. It was good but salty, the sauce they usually give was extra spicy. There was a yellow and a green both tasted the same as well as extra spicy. Overall i had to throw out a quarter of the chicken bc it was too salty. The fries were good but the salad was old. Some pieces of the lettuce were slimy and the avocado was bad with black all over. Classic peruvian dishes. The ceviche was my favorite dish. I believe they used sea bass, instead of cheap tilipia . Ceviche is so tasty and with a perfectly balanced acidity. Lomo saltado was tender and juicy (a little in the salty end). Some dishes fell short like the rice with seafood. Definitely worth taking the trip to Hempstead for a traditional peruvian meal. Parking isn't great though, limited parking in the rear, otherwise park in the dollar store across the street. read more
