Unfortunately disappointing. We were sat immediately, had a few moments to look over what we wanted. I'm going to keep this one short and to the point. The service was not good at all, insanely slow, and was difficult to get water refills. The staff had to be short handed, having one server for the whole space felt off, someone had to have called out. If i'm incorrect and they have one server for the whole space on a weekend, then owners/management need to hire a second server. Food was not very good. Food also came out of order, we got one of the main dishes before the appetizer, and one dish was not hot. El Cedro is a really interesting concept blending Mexican and Lebanese flavors, and I honestly appreciate how unique it feels compared to a lot of spots in Brooklyn right now. The ambiance was probably one of my favorite parts. It had cute decor with touches from both cultures that made the space feel warm and thoughtful without trying too hard. Food wise, it was a bit hit or miss for me. I ordered the watermelon salad and La Bandera (their mezze style sampler). The muhammara and labneh were definitely the standouts. Both were flavorful and paired really well with the warm pita they serve. The cilantro hummus was ok, but not greatest hummus. The chips were noticeably salty. The watermelon salad was okay, but the watermelon itself tasted a little old and could've been fresher/sweeter. One random thing I genuinely loved - they served really cold water, which sounds minor but was actually very appreciated. The staff was kind and attentive, although at times they hovered a bit too much, which made the experience slightly uncomfortable. Drinks are also pretty limited, mostly basic soft drinks and Jarritos, but many opportunities for cool fusion drinks with the blend of two cultures. Overall, I think the fusion concept is cool, especially if you like both cuisines, but some dishes felt stronger in idea than execution. Stopped by on a Saturday, early evening, for dinner. Decided to eat outside because the weather was really nice. They had 4 sidewalk tables that could fit 2 people each. Ordered the halloumi, mushroom and steak tacos, along with the Napols beet salad. I could skip the napols beet salad in the future. I didn't love the texture or the flavor. If there were more onions it might have balanced the dish. The tacos were great, but relatively small for how much they were. I would definitely have the halloumi and mushroom tacos again. Vast menu with lots to choose from. Decent vegetarian options. Overall, I would visit again, but slightly on the pricey side. read more

Overall rating: 4.5 Just walked by and saw the sign that said it was a Lebanese taco place so obviously had to try. When I arrived at 9:30, they were rushing me hard. I was just getting take out but it took me some time to decide what I wanted. The odd part is, their hours on Google says they closed at 10pm. I feel like they could have just told me their kitchen is closed vs me feeling like a nuisance. Aside from that, the burrito was good. A lot smaller than I was expecting. This place does fusion cuisine right! Absolutely delicious Lebanese-Mexican food. I highly recommend the lamb burrito, which was excellent-- so juicy, flavorful, and went perfectly with the accompanying cilantro sauce. My sister ordered this dish off their brunch menu (forget what it was called but it had onions, chickpeas, sausage, potatoes, and cheese) which was quite solid as well. The lb torta was smothered in sauce! It was very flavorful but the lamb to bread ratio was off (very bready and not enough meat). The bandera dip came with guac, labneh and mahamara. Food was really tasty, they did a nice take on Lebanese and Mexican. However, the portions were very small for the price ($17 for two fish tacos no sides ) and the tortilla seemed store bought - like they didn't seem to know how to reheat them, because tortilla shell seemed soft and uncooked. This is an interesting fast dining option in Cobble Hill with a Lebanese/Mexican flare - not sure if the fusion was intentional, but hard not to be as they're serving tortas and tacos. The tacos were all really good. We got the crunchy beef, halloumi which was topped with a unique watermelon salsa and the fried fish. This place is such a gem in the neighborhood. Amazing food that blends Lebanese and Mexican heritages (some of the most delicious heritages around). Interesting and creative mix of Middle Eastern and Mexican food. Highly recommend the makali sandwich which is made with zucchini, eggplant, pureed cauliflower, and red cabbage. It was very well flavored and definitely the highlight of the menu. The watermelon salad was good but too spicy with jalapeno seeds mixed in. We also liked the pan seared branzino which had a nice blend of herbs and spices. The staff did not communicate well with the kitchen or were not yet trained as they came back noting the sandwich was sold out when in fact they meant the kitchen needed time to prepare the ingredients. Side note: This place is currently going through their soft opening so the menu currently doesn't include drinks or dessert but there's apparently options. I've been to this very new spot twice having been open only since last Thursday. The location is where several Moroccan spots were but this restaurant has a completely different owner and chef being a Lebanese Taqueria which is a unique mix though I would say it definitely falls more on the Lebanese side at least from what I've tried. Ironically for being a Lebanese Taqueria, they don't have anything resembling al pastor nor is there any pork on the menu of course. The food here might be halal but I am unsure and unlike many of the other Arabic spots in the area, they had been open during lunch time during Ramadan. In terms of drinks, the menu doesn't specify but they have Jarritos as well as some other sodas as I heard from some other table. I don't believe there's alcohol here nor am I sure whether you can bring it here but I presume not (I'd call.) The first time I was here, I had the Makakek Bolilo which is a bit overpriced at $14. This consisted of sauteed Lebanese sausages (said makanek,) pomegranate caramelized onions, and preserved lemon served on bolilo bread which is kind of like a mini crunchy baguette. It was a bit small/sparsely filled for the price with only a couple of those delicious savory sausages. Otherwise, there was plenty of pomegranate seeds, some caramelized onions, and a delicious preserved lemon sauce which added a sour kick. There either should be more meat in here or perhaps they can add something else which is usually added to this type of sandwich maybe what is usually filled within a mollete or something. The waiter gave me two spicy sauces to try with it with neither being too spicy but they were still pretty well flavored. After finishing, they asked if I could wait here for longer which was fine and they soon brought out some Rice Pudding which was a nice touch. I presume this was Riz Bi Haleeb which has a hint of rose and orange water which I've had before and there was some pistachios on top. This was excellent and on the main menu, they could presumably charge $6 or so. The next time I was here, I went with the $16 Lamb Kamounia Torta Ahogado listed as braised in cumin with harissa drowned in sauce with escabeche. For those unaware, kamounia refers to a North African stew commonly made from either beef or lamb with liver and I think the menu should add that it includes liver to the description. Overall, it was tasty although I wouldn't exactly describe it as a torta ahogado (or more commonly spelled ahogada.) Torta ahogada generally means that the entire torta is drenched in a sauce and instead, the delicious crunchy bread was separate from the stew. It makes it a bit less messy however so I don't mind. Anyway, the stew was outstanding with plenty of tender lamb and liver as well as of course a lot of cumin and tomato. There was a bit of pickled vegetables in there also (aka the escabeche) and overall this was a much better dish and for $2 more much more satisfying. The quality of the two dishes was high though one dish was definitely better and much more worth it. I'll come back here and try some more things with the cemita being the likely choice next time. read more

When I came to understand what it is, I was already in. Lebanese and Mexican fusion, yes please! It turned out to be be exactly what I imagined and hoped for. The food was fresh and delicious. The owners were super nice and accommodating. We tried: Hummus, Baked Feta Queso, Shawarma Pollo Asado Tacos, and Lamb Hashwe Burrito. Everything was so good. I will dream about that lamb burrito.
