This business has helped us with our furbies for decades. Four years ago, our sweet Jake had gut issues which Dr Massey correctly diagnosed. Fast forward, to a year ago, he started having geriatric issues. Arthritis shots helped- diet helped for a bit. This past three weeks, Dr Pincin & staff tried to help him. They exceed our expectations with kindness & quality care during his visits. Blood tests showed nothing significant. This week, he refused food/drink for days + was barely able to walk. He didn't have quality of life- and we decided to let Jake go. **We truly appreciate the people @ El Cerrito La Mesa. Thank you.

Sticker on a treat jar in the waiting room!

I took my dog to El Cerrito because of seizures. While sitting in the waiting room I saw a sticker on a jar of dog treats that said "Abolish ICE". Time to find a new Vet! I don't care about your politics and nor should you push your politics on your customers. I would have hoped I could take my dog to get treated and not have to see this! Completely unacceptable and unprofessional!

Belle used a post surgery onesie instead of a cone. The staff was kind enough to put in on her before they brought her out to me.

My 1 year old French bulldog was spayed here this week. I want to thank the entire staff for being so caring and attentive with Belle! I was very nervous about this surgery because Belle is my baby! After bringing her in for her initial checkup, I knew Belle would be safe with them. It's been about 4 days since the surgery and Belle is doing amazing! Her incision is healing so nicely. Thank you all sooo much!! :)

    A happy client

I have been taking my dogs here for over 9 years. We love Dr. Massey and Dr. Kisling and when we have had to make the difficult decision that the compasionate and most loving thing we can do for our family members is say goodbye, El Cerrito Vet has made this passage as caring and comforting as possible. They have gone above and beyond with cards and kind gestures even after the fact which meant the world to me. When my dogs have needed specialty care or surgery, they have gone above and beyond even after hours to reach out to these practices and arrange care and check in and consult with me on how my pet is doing. When I adopted a rescue dog, they gave me a reduced exam fee for adopting a rescue. Their prices are always very fair and reasonable by industry standards. Communication has always been very responsive and when I have needed records for pet insurance claims or travel, they send it to me right away. I will never take my family members anywhere else. Being a vet is no easy task dealing with many expectations, personalities and expenses and liabilities, so I am grateful that my family members have a nearby, trustworthy and caring place to call home for their medical needs.

I'm not one to leave a yelp review but after the care my dog received it's warranted. I started bringing my frenchie, Rocco, to El Cerrito about 12 years ago. I was recommended to them by my aunts who had received great care from them for years for their two dogs. I don't even know where to start. Rocco passed away a week ago at 14 1/2 years old. Like I said for the past 12 or so of that he's been coming to el cerrito. It brings me to tears writing this because every single person that works there is so caring, understanding, compassionate, and exactly what you would want for your pet. They all go out of their way to ensure the best care. From routine appointments to Rocco's end of life diagnosis, every single person working in the office provided the best care for him. With any issue Rocco has had throughout the years I always receive a follow up call to check in, the doctors always give me the time to ask questions, I have never felt rushed in an appointment. They follow up, they remember your pet, they're kind, and at his appointments the vet techs and front desk staff are always accommodating, shout out to Carrie too she was always great. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Massey and Dr. Kisling. The years of care they provided is exceptional, I can't even begin to express my gratitude.

Dr. Tritt said this dog shouldn't be in a home with kids or pets. He's in a home with kids and pets.

Get rid of Dr. Tritt she's short tempered and unprofessional. If anyone goes here, ask for anyone but her.

Instead I sat in the lobby waiting for them to charge me and decided to go across the parking lot to Pet Emergency. I would not recommend Pet Urgent Care to anyone. Long story below....... Came in to get a wound stitched for my dog Henry and spent almost 1k with Urgent Care for less than an hour of work. Fine, that's what a professional Doctor charges. Before I left they told me that the stitches would come out in 10 to 14 days. I got a call from Urgent Care this morning on day 10 and took Henry in to check to see if the stitches were ready to come out. I specifically asked to have him checked to see if they were ready to come out. The Doctor at Pet Urgent Care said that the wound was healed and removed the stitches. I took Henry home and went to work. When I got home from work and checked on Henry his wound was wide open. All of this is understandable. The Doctors response was not. When the doctor came out to speak with me she was suggesting that we spend more money on a wound cleaning and more antibiotics rather than replacing the stitches. I asked "why would I be charged if the stitches were taken out earlier than the 14 days" and the doctor replies " well we can't leave the stitches in too long" I asked "how could the stitches be being left in too long if we are at day 10, the earliest day in the healing recommendation to get the stitches out. I was told that it was a 10 to 14 day healing cycle" she responded with "what are you trying to do here, have a go at me" I said "no, you simply contradicted yourself, the wound obviously would have benefited from the extra 4 days of healing, but it was your professional opinion to take them out on day 10 rather 14 and now you want to just leave my dog with a gaping open wound" she got upset and said that I could go to Pet Emergency and that she would come back with a Manager. She came back, but with a staff member who thank god could witness the doctor getting upset again. So now she starts telling me how the wound would heal on its own, it would start to grow back together, they only use stitches so that it heals faster. And that was just another contradiction to taking the stitches out too early. This could have been an opportunity for the Doctor to take some responsibility; instead she got confrontational again..... I have been in customer service since 1998 and I have never even considered asking a customer "Are they trying to have a go at me". Thanks Pet Emergency. I'm glad you shared the same parking lot.

Most vets are closed or completely booked on weekends, so when a friend suggested this place, I knew it was my last hope. They were also booked. Mind you, notices were sent to her vet. Our vet here is Dr. Rodriguez. We followed her from another vet. She is an outstanding and caring vet. Jacaranda had been seen by Dr. Perry because our regular vet was not available. She had a seizure right in the waiting room, there were quite a few people working on her. Over $1,000. For her episode. She had a seizure at home and it was just the two of us and she took a pill and was fine. Dr. Perry had said dogs have seizures all the time there, which I thought was strange, I have been to a lot of vets over the years and not seen a seizure. Ever. I've mentioned this to other vets who don't seem to know what she's talking about and suggest I go elsewhere if dogs are having seizures all the time in the waiting room. Maybe it's something environmental? Today, after putting Frenchi down over the weekend, she was old and had lived a long life and was not doing great, jacaranda had a seizure and we took her into VCA Mission Valley. We took her to Kearny Mesa and we left after many hours of them not caring for her, it's a real circus there. Don't ever go there. The Mission Valley team got jacaranda back on track and I needed to take her in first thing this morning. Then I get this AI generated message that seems like I'm texting with a person saying that Dr. Perry think she should schedule a T-4 test. She just had one in Jan and it was normal. And dr. Perry is not her doctor. They received messages from VCA about what had gone on, so why harass us about anything right now? Heartless, right? I don't know what's going on there, or why the urgency for billing is happening from a vet that is not her regular vet, but I am sickened. Just crestfallen that we need to change vets because we love Dr. Rodriguez, but if this is what happens when she is out of the office - no thanks! Be aware. I just want to vomit. This is not how a vets office should be dealing with someone who just had a dog die and the other at emergency just days before. I should probably post the heartless conversation I had with two real people. Dr. Rodriguez is out of the office. She should know what is going on there. I am so sickened by this whole situation. We love you, Dr. Rodriguez, but we just can't deal with whatever is going on there. Alaura, whom I spoke with, said she would let them know that Dr. Perry is not her vet. Dr. Perry has never been her vet. She saw Dr. Perry out of necessity. Not for any other reason. Personally, I am just so disgusted. It's not bad enough all of this other stuff happened with our other dogs? It's been a bleak few days - that they were notified about - and I'm at a loss about how I even got texted about this test that the avma says should be done once a year if the last one was normal and it was done in January all of a sudden pops up. Alaura (who has always been very nice, I explained to her I do NOT want a call from management, I am just done) said someone new was working that contacted me (the original text had been AI and contacted me about this random test that doesn't need to be done right now). I should just post the conversation, it was completely mindless even when another person with more experience took over. I'm sure you would see why I am so upset. I've never had any of these random texts about tests before, why now? Why from Dr. Perry when she is not our vet? This is just about the most uncaring thing I've ever seen from a vet, mind you, we have experienced much worse from VSH. At least Rancho isn't performing unnecessary surgeries. So, there's that, at least. I'm just having a really, really bad, terrible time and this was the very, absolute last thing I needed. We won't be returning.

Cats may not love vet visits, but they have a wonderful "cat whisperer" (if I'm remembering correctly, her name is Sam). A Routine Procedure Resulted in Severe Burns, Repeated Misdiagnoses, and a Lack of Transparency…read more I am sharing our family's experience to provide a factual account of the events that followed our dog Ipo's dental cleaning at University Pet Hospital on May 15, 2026. My goal is to inform other pet owners of what can happen, even during a "routine" procedure. The Facts: Ipo, our 8-year-old dog, went in for a standard dental cleaning. The following morning, on May 16, she was in severe pain with a swollen, hyperemic abdomen. We returned to University Pet Hospital for an emergency recheck and were told her condition was a "seroma" and "inflammation" from her positioning. We were prescribed pain medication at our expense and sent home. By May 22, after the medication course was finished, Ipo's condition had worsened. We returned for another exam with Dr. Munoz, where the clinic again attributed her worsening symptoms to "irritation." They failed to diagnose the burn, and we were advised to purchase an additional medicated spray. Her condition continued to deteriorate. On May 27, after her skin began developing open wounds, we sought a second opinion. Pet Urgent Care immediately diagnosed her with thermal burns. We returned to University Pet Hospital the same day, where the clinic's own notes finally state: "...the dark red-purple-blue lining around the area may suggest thermal burn as the potential cause." The burns ultimately became severely infected, requiring emergency hospitalization, surgical debridement, and nearly a dozen trips to an animal ER. Our out-of-pocket costs have now exceeded $6,600. The Communication: In my opinion, the most concerning part of this experience was the lack of transparency from the clinic's management. Admission of Fault: In a handwritten note from May 30, the clinic manager documented advising me that "staff was making changes of use of heating pad" and that their "intentions were not to burn pet." This confirmed our belief that a heating device was the cause. Failure to Provide Records: We made multiple formal requests for Ipo's complete anesthesia and monitoring records, as is our right under California law. To date, those specific records have not been provided to us. Refusal to Engage: We sent multiple emails requesting the clinic's insurance information and a path to resolving our expenses. These requests were ignored, forcing us to file a formal complaint with the California Veterinary Medical Board and their insurance carrier. Our Opinion: We feel that had Ipo's burn been correctly identified on May 16 instead of being repeatedly misdiagnosed as "inflammation" and "irritation," she would have been spared days of excruciating pain and the development of a severe infection. We were disappointed by the clinic's failure to provide complete records and their unwillingness to engage in a good-faith resolution. We trusted this facility with a beloved family member. I hope our story encourages other pet owners to be vigilant and to ask detailed questions about the specific equipment and monitoring protocols used during any anesthetic procedure.
