Loved El Patron in the same location. 4.5 stars for the food. Big portions, great flavors (quesabirrias--wow. Bone broth: the same). Salsa fresh and tasty. Service was okay -- you've got 4 people standing around the host station but it takes 10+ minutes to flag down a server for another salsa ... kind of an issue but not huge. 1.0 star: the "margarita". (Picture attached. And that's a margarita in the same way I'm an astronaut). 30+ years in the food industry and worked as a bartender and never had a worse one. A margarita isn't 50% or more orange juice. Like these. And this may have been top shelf but the very idea you can taste the Grand Marnier or the Cointreau in when it's mostly OJ is absurd. And I asked when it arrived because it looked so wrong. "No, that's a margarita" I was told. And looking at the other tables: theirs looked to be same color. Awful. The equivalent of a Mexican restaurant having this bad a margarita would be an Irish restaurant putting Vienna Sausage in the corned beef and cabbage. I'm still stunned by this. I'm hoping it's just the little girl behind the bar making drinks not knowing what's she's doing or not being able to read a recipe, because if not ... holy shit. UPDATE: went to El Patron at the new location (yes they have the same owners) and have the answer: the bartender didn't know WTF she was doing here. Approximately the same recipe at El Patron but these weren't overloaded with OJ (which, still just my opinion, doesn't belong in ANY margarita. Whether you believe the Ensenada or Tijuana or Rosarito origin stories of the cocktail, NONE of them until like the 2000s ever had orange juice. Always Tequila/Triple Sec or Cointreau or Grand Marnier/lime juice). read more

My wife and I decided to see what the hype was for this restaurant. Came in on a Thursday evening was seated right away our waitress seemed new she was not very un attentive. She rarely came to check on us. The waitress really didn't have an understanding of the drink menu we ordered a top shelf margarita and we specifically asked how it was made and was served something totally different, and would not replace. The ambiance was nice the decor is cool I found it to be pretty loud inside with the walking mariachi band. When it came to the food everything needs seasoning. I ordered the steak kabobs with bacon wrapped shrimp. The steak had no seasoning and they definitely killed the cow twice the meat was dry and over cooked, the same with the shrimp I couldn't really taste the shrimp cause the bacon was so charred. My wife had the shrimp and octopus tacos with the bone marrow, the bone marrow was the star of the plate for her every thing else was kind of forgettable because every component of the meal needed flavor. This establishment has an excellent ambience giving a different dining vibe than your typical Mexican restaurant . It is well decorated and has a unique menu. I have been twice and food has been delicious. My only critique would be service needs some attention, not that it was bad just needs to come up a notch to match the ambience and food levels. read more

The food here is easily some of the best on the Westbank! The food is flavorful, consistent, and worth coming back for. I've had great experiences dining in, and that's what earns the full five stars. That said, the staff could definitely improve their approach to takeout service. The lack of courtesy when I came in to pick up a simple order was disappointing. It almost made me want to lower my rating, but the quality of the food and dine-in experience carried it. I hope the team considers putting better customer service practices in place, especially for those just grabbing takeout. read more

Service was a little slow, but as can be expected with a new restaurant finding their footing. We ordered the Quesabirrias and Ribeye Tacos and the Corn Ribs, small Queso for an appetizer. I just wanna say at first I was skeptical to go into this restaurant because of the reviews and because of what people were saying about the restaurant so me and my husband decided to ignore the reviews and find out for ourselves. We ended up getting two kids meals And I ended up getting the fajita trio. My husband ended up getting the steak with shrimp overall we really did enjoy the food. I think it was amazing. It has really great flavor and we both really like the Horchata. The service was good. Our waiter was very attending the atmosphere and the restaurant Feels very amazing it also feels very relaxing. I think a bunch of people who go to this restaurant Just have a problem with the service. Came here for my sons birthday and let me tell you the food was not cooked properly. My niece ordered the fried crab taco and her crab was raw inside her taco. I had the Camerones Costa Azul and later on that night and next day I was sick as a dog. Don't know if they are not storing their seafood properly or what, but needless to say the waitress was actually upset at us for the uncooked food. read more

Went back to El Chango Burracho after a few months, to circle back, and I've been an additional two times. In both cases, most of the staff was really great - no chance they knew who I was or anything like that, so I am raising my rating to a 4.5 (you can only give a 4 or a 5 here) and giving them the benefit of the doubt - maybe I caught them on a bad day. Had the Sabor Di Me Pueblo (arrachero version) one time, and the red snapper - both were tasted as great as they looked - delicious and comparatively reasonably priced. Highly recommend. read more

Tried this new place out today for lunch. The place is so cute! Upbeat music playing, not your typical Mexican restaurant music. It was really upbeat! Our server was Fransisco. He was on point and very friendly. Slightly pricier than your typical Mexican, but it's a little more upscale. They had some unique menu items. Went the other night and was disappointed in our server. We felt rushed by the waitress and then she never returned to the table until she was ready to give us the check. She stayed behind the bar talking to her coworkers, which is fine but we couldn't order drinks or anything. We'd ask for something and she'd roll her eyes and walk away fast before we could finish our question or statement. Food was excellent!
