The nachos were absolutely amazing--one of the best parts of the meal. Before we even ordered, they brought out chips with green and red salsa, and even those chips were delicious. However, the enchiladas were not good at all. Still, the nachos were so good, with guacamole and cheese coming together perfectly, that I would definitely go back whenever I'm craving nachos. Lately, I've been really enjoying watching World Cup soccer games, and it was fun to watch and cheer together while having dinner there. One thing I noticed: the women's restroom was not well maintained at first. There was no toilet seat cover and no toilet paper in one of the restrooms, so I felt it could have been cleaner and better managed. However, when I went back a second time, I saw a staff member actively restocking supplies, handing out toilet seat covers and toilet paper to others, and communicating with housekeeping over a radio about what was needed. That made me feel better about how they manage the facility. Overall, from the hostess who seated us to the servers, all the staff were very friendly, which made the experience even better. And, the nice atmosphere is a plus.

(Dined/Drank 06/15/26 MO @ 4:00pm): El sol brillaba intensamente sobre este restaurante familiar!…read more An old friend from elementary school reached out to me out of the blue and invited me to El Sol Family Restaurant to catch up and to also see other longtime friends and former colleagues over happy hour. Apparently, my friend and other mutual colleagues/friends still kept in touch with each other on a regular basis (I wasn't good about that) and met here fairly often on Mondays. My schedule was always difficult, but on this fateful date, I was available and geeked to hang out with people I haven't seen in over a decade easily. Having served Montrose since 2002, they have since become a pillar of the community with their family recipes and fresh homemade cuisine. I was surprised I'd never heard of this place since I grew up in the area and still relatively frequented it. Would my first time at the sun be my last, or would the family feel (and happy hour!) bring me back!? PURCHASE(S) Chips & Salsa (COMP): Both homemade, the chips were crispy and warm while the salsas were spicy and warm - arriba! Blended Mango Margarita Blended ($7.00 HH): Mango flavor throughout with enough tequila, this was a nice way to start my imbibing on this hot day! Asada Street Tacos 2pc ($5.00 HH): Marinated tender beef with diced white onion, this was simplicity at its best! Carnitas Street Tacos 2pc ($5.00 HH): Same as the asada tacos but chicken! Strawberry Margarita On The Rocks ($7.00 HH): Fruity and sweet with just enough tequila but more ice than I liked. Bean & Cheese Nachos ($5.00 HH): Hot beans and melty cheese, this was very basic but served its purpose. Peach Margarita On The Rocks ($7.00 HH): Refreshing but same as the strawberry version. Cheese Quesadilla + Chicken ($5.00 + $1.00 HH): Another dish that helped to absorb the alcohol with a decent amount of chicken. Bohemia Pilsner Beer 4.7% ABV 12floz Bottle ($5.00 HH): Bright amber color, malty aroma, light body, malty sweet warm watery flavor, crisp finish, and light malty sweet watery aftertaste. A slightly elevated Mexican cerveza - salud! Pacifico Clara Lager Beer 4.5% ABV 12floz Bottle ($5.00 HH): Bright amber color, malty salty aroma, light body, malty warm watery flavor, clean finish, and light malty watery aftertaste. An easy-breezy beer! SERVICE Warmly greeted by a young gentleman who ended up also being our server. I was the first to arrive, and when I mentioned my friends' names, he took me to their standard booth, gave me a menu, a glass of water, and complimentary chips and salsa. He returned moments later, took my first of many orders, and as our ever-growing party kept showing up, he was on us with such ease while he kept his head on a swivel as orders came from all directions. He was the bomb - muchas gracias! PARKING (FREE): They shared parking within a small strip mall that featured a handful of other businesses such a laundromat, a liquor store, and more. Otherwise, there were many spots along the main drag of Honolulu Ave. - 'nuff said. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A casual clean somewhat packed floor plan with two dining areas (the main front and the side) filled with a mix of booths and partitioned tables, I didn't notice an actual bar, and minimal cultural decorations added some splash along with some 2026 World Cup fever. Plenty of natural lighting entered through the front doors and windows while an assortment of electric ceiling lights would've covered the rest as it got darker. There were several low-volume TVs throughout while I couldn't recall any background music. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL I had a fun time at El Sol Family Restaurant mainly because I caught up with so many people I haven't seen in so many years and to be introduced to a new business to me with a very good happy hour. I hoped to join them for more happy hours and actually try their full menu. The food was yummy, the prices very affordable, the menu was rather sizable, and the service was awesome. Plus, I preferred to support small mom & pop businesses whenever possible. I found complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $60.00 BEFORE any discounts, points usage, and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 5.0 STARS

1 star Extremely…read moredisappointed with this experience. I ordered a breakfast burrito around 8 PM, planning to eat it when my husband got home around 11:30 PM. When we finally cut into it, we realized they had given us a completely different burrito/order. I immediately called the restaurant, and I was told that corrections or refunds could only be made the same day. At that point it was already around 11:45 PM. I live about 20 minutes away, so driving back would have put me there after closing. I even offered to send a picture of the incorrect order, but was told they couldn't access the email. What made this even more frustrating was how unaccommodating the employee was. Knowing there was no realistic way for me to drive 20 minutes back to the restaurant before closing, I expected at least some effort to find a reasonable solution. Instead, I felt like I was simply being told there was nothing they could do. When I said I would contact upper management for a resolution via email, the employee even seemed relieved, rather than concerned about resolving the issue. I understand mistakes happen, but the restaurant made the mistake--not me. The least they could have done was offer a refund for an overpriced burrito that I didn't even order. It's now past midnight, and I have to drive way out of my way just to find somewhere that's still open to get food. Very disappointing customer service, and unfortunately I won't be ordering from here again.

1-Star Review - Very Disappointing Experience…read more I wanted to support this small, family-owned Mexican restaurant, but unfortunately this was one of the most disappointing takeout experiences I've had in a long time. We ordered nachos without picadillo. What we received was a pile of chewy, tough meat that was difficult to eat. The refried beans tasted like canned beans rather than freshly prepared beans. There was absolutely no sour cream drizzle, no sliced jalapeños, and the cheese was not melted at all--not even slightly. Since this was a takeout order, I understand food can cool down during transport, but melted cheese doesn't completely revert back to unmelted shredded cheese. These nachos clearly never came out of a hot oven. The sope was equally disappointing. The masa tasted store-bought rather than freshly made. It lacked the flavor and texture of a handmade sope. The tomato slices looked old and past their prime. The only saving grace of the meal was the salsa, which was actually quite good. To add insult to injury, they charged extra for what can only be described as a thimble-sized serving of guacamole. The wet burrito was covered in an excessive amount of thick red sauce that had a grainy texture, as if it had not been properly strained. The sauce tasted processed and possibly canned. There was no melted cheese on top and no crema drizzle. Inside was more of the same chewy, tough meat. The Mexican rice lacked flavor, and the beans again tasted canned rather than fresh. The Total came to $46, and the restaurant accepts Cash only. Since I didn't have cash, I had to go next door to a small market to get a cash advance. The store clerk charged me a $2 fee to run my card and explained that they are not affiliated with the restaurant and do not provide receipts. When I returned and asked the restaurant for a receipt for my order, the employee taking orders seemed annoyed by the request. Instead of providing a receipt, she stapled an order ticket to the takeout bag. The shocking part was that the back of the ticket already contained handwritten information from another customer's order. She told me to ignore it. The paper itself was yellowed, wrinkled, and looked like it had been pulled from a trash bin. It gave a VERY unsanitary impression! There is also a significant safety concern. When exiting the restaurant, there is approximately a one-foot drop from the doorway. Although there is a warning painted near the bottom of the exit, it is easy to miss. The person I was with actually injured herself while leaving because of this hazard. There is no dedicated parking, so the business likely relies mostly on local foot traffic. Overall, the food quality was poor, the customer service was lacking, and the entire experience left a bad impression. I genuinely wanted to support a local business, but this visit gave me no reason to return. Rating: 1 out of 5 stars. I do not recommend this restaurant, and I will not be back. *********************************
