Hands down, without a doubt....THE BEST tacos in Cabo. I go to Cabo twice and year and always hit up the taco stands or smaller restaurants that feature tacos. El Gran Pastor is THE BEST. Every time I come, there's at least 5-6 people in line. The owners are a cute couple that operate out of less than 50 SF of space. There are no tables but you're welcome to sit on the sidewalk or just stand around the area. IF the bar next door is open, you can eat there as long as you purchase a drink. Other thing to note is they have the best toppings. I never see grilled onions elsewhere. Here, they have it ALL! Keepin' it short....this place is a MUST! read more

Very good street tacos. Unlike Tacos Guss, they give a lot of filling. They charbroil food here, so the taste was a little more smoky than I'm used to. After passing by this place when I just ate tacos guz down the street, the smell was amazing and felt like I made a mistake going to the other spot. Came here the next night and man the food here was terrible and very expensive for a taco stand unless they ripped me off. Chorizo is garbage, Al Pastor was nasty but the Asada was okay. I wouldn't waste your feds here, just stick to seafood tacos like fish or shrimp else where. Seems like the hole in the wall tacos is the best bet. They don't skimp on carne and the service is great. By far one of the best tacos I've had on our trip. The tripas tacos are fire and the Al pastor tacos are good. Could literally order two tacos and split the tortilla to make 4 tacos. The red salsa is a good spicy not too hot. Taco lovers, take heed: this is the place you want to hit up when you're in Cabo San Lucas! El Gran Pastor is the very definition of the perfect authentic Mexican taco dive. What sets this one apart from the rest is the quality of the meat. This is excellent steak that isn't one bit chewy or fatty. If you go here, get the steak. My favorite menu item here are the open faced torta style tacos. Fresh flour tortillas are crimped and griddled, topped with a generous helping of melted cheese and meat. There's a small toppings bar with all kinds of salsas, onions, cabbage, radishes, fresh limes and more so you can doctor your plate up with as much or as little extras that you want. This is an open-air restaurant with limited seating. Most locals seem to grab their tacos and lean on the adjacent cars to eat. They don't open up until around noon so don't show up too early. We arrived at 10:30 am and just went down the street to Tacos Guss for a couple of appetizer tacos to kill some time before El Gran Pastor opened. Great street tacos for cheap. Great tacos but open after 7pm and ramp up very slowly. There's no seating, but can sit and eat in establishment next door, but have to buy drinks. Or take your food to go. But, the tacos are very good including the salsa. They give you a lot of meat. Absolutely wonderful. Tacos seem a bit charred and are somewhat overseasoned, but sometimes I'm in the mood for that, and this place hits the spot. I ordered Asada, Al Pastor, and Campechano, and I recommend you do the same. One downside of this place: they don't offer shrimp tacos, so if that's what you're in the mood for, go to Tacos Guss down the street instead. Another downside is that their drink selection is a little anemic. No aguas frescas or fancy lemonades, just a few plastic-bottled colas and bottled waters. Stopped by El Gran Pastor as I continued my mission to find the best tasting pastor in Cabo. There's not much to this place. It's pretty much a glorified taco stand with a few chairs off to the side to sit on. There's no inside seating, so this is very much a "to go" type of deal. The tacos are cheap and I only went for the pastor taco. It was good, but when your name surrounds pastor I feel it should be hands-down the best pastor taco you've ever had. It was honestly my 3rd favorite one that I had (out of 4 different spots). The salsa bar is nice and you can dress up your taco any way you please, so they have that going for them. The service was quick so that's also good. Just a little disappointed overall in the taste of the pastor compared to some of the other spots. You could certainly do worse in Cabo, but you can also do a lot better. Just an average overall experience for me. read more

Over the course of an evening in Cabo San Lucas, my girlfriend was nice enough to indulge me in visiting three taco spots over the course of a few hours, and it gave me a unique opportunity for a three-way heads up review: 1 & Only Tacos Tacos Guss El Gran Pastor Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? As far as service and atmosphere were concerned, you had three different experiences across these shops, with Tacos Guss having the most robust array of seating, 1 & Only having a more mom and pop vibe, and El Gran Pastor being a simple stand. All were fine, but I was most impressed with 1 & Only, who couldn't have been nicer. 1 & Only Tacos: Star (1) Tacos Guss: Star (1) El Gran Pastor: Star (1) Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? You had three pretty different price points across the three shops, with 1 & Only coming in at $1.00 each, Tacos Guss coming in at $1.35 each, and finally El Gran Pastor $2.00 each. El Gran Pastor had the largest tacos, but what was most impressive was Tacos Guss full spread of peripheral toppings. 1 & Only Tacos: Star (2) Tacos Guss: Star (2) El Gran Pastor: Star (2) Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? I'm a sucker for Al Pastor, so I ended up getting it at all three spots in addition to Fish and Asada tacos at 1 & Only. Came here while bar hopping to get some food in our system. I had the carne asada tacos and they were DELICIOUS. so authentic, tasted exactly how I expected a street taco in Mexico to taste. The taco is a double corn tortilla dipped in some of the meat juice and cooked on the comal. The meat juice gives the taco an extra boost of flavor. You are given the tacos with the tortilla and meat then you apply your own toppings from the topping bar. This taco stand is accessed from the sidewalk and does not have traditional tables, instead there are a few seats to the side of the taco stand and guests can sit or stand around while enjoying their tacos. They do make orders to go if you prefer to eat your tacos elsewhere. On the plane ride home I was left craving and fantasizing about these late night treats. My friend apparently always comes here when he visits so we stopped by here every night as it's literally a block from our hotel. There's usually a line of people either waiting to order or eating next to it. They only have carnitas and pastor, but each taco is only $2 usd or 25 pesos. Hint, it's cheaper to pay in pesos so don't be that tourist that only carries around usd. That's lazy and you rip yourself off. I have ordered both tacos but I prefer the carnitas. I like to cover it with pico de gallo and guacamole with hot salsa on top. You really need the salsa so that it's not too dry but after that, it's perfect. I totally enjoyed our daily trips here. It's great for drunkards, too. Who needs to dine at those touristy restaurants where people wait to pull you in? I just like my street foods. By the way, none of us got sick so don't be a chicken and give them a try! read more

I really should have started bookmarking places I wanted to eat prior to coming to Cabo. Obviously being a touristy town, there are many things geared towards the American tourist. Everything is in English and everything is expensive. Finding a place that the locals frequent that is actually great street food is hard to come by. Luckily, Yelp pointed out this little innocuous place sitting off the main street in down town. You'd walk by it if you weren't looking for it but El Gran Pastor is place you don't want to miss. If you're walking down the main street Lazaro Cardenas, you'd be overwhelmed with all the glitz and the glamor of buildings clearly targeting tourists. Everything is in English and people speak English trying to come eat at their restaurant or buy their mass produced souvenirs. As you have your face down to the ground avoiding eye contact, you may actually miss El Gran Pastor which is facing the main street but really easy to miss. You'll see the main guy out there with his meat cooking and occasionally people sitting right next to the store eating the food. Other than that there is no sitting area for people to eat so this is really a "para llevar" place. You have a choice of 3 meats including carne asada, el pastor (pork) and I believe the other is a type of chorizo? Correct me if I'm wrong. 25 pesos for a taco which is a far cry cheaper (and tastier) than any other restaurant you will find. It's really where the locals eat as all the tourists pass by it as they don't offer 2 for 1 alcohol drinks. They are simply there to sell what they are good at and that is tacos. The flavor is great and not overpowering like some of your American taquerias. They'll pack you up with a bag and a large sampling of all their salsas that they have. I've visited Cabo a handful of times. Each time I go, El Gran Pastor is my first stop for late-night tacos. Why? IMO, El Gran has the BEST pastor in Cabo. Price is $2 USD per taco, grab 3-4 pastor tacos, slap on your salsa(s) of choice, and chow down --- you will not be disappointed. They're only open during the evening, so plan accordingly. read more

The Pastor meat smelled so good, that we just had to get some extra tacos, even though we had just eaten dinner. It was totally worth it! It was only about 25 pesos per taco (cash only). First impression: a local was getting real aggressive and there was some pushing and shoving involved, weird but then he left after receiving what looked like cash. (Not really relevant to the food nor did it affect the food but just my experience) This place only opens later around 6:30pm and stays open pretty late so you know it's targeting all the drunkies and nocturnal people. The tacos here were $2 a pop, we got the pastor and asada. Pretty delicious, and they had all the fixings out in the open so you could customize how you want it. I was trying to find an authentic taco stand, and yelp lead me to this.. my reason was for the cabeza tacos...... but I arrived disappointed, traveling from los cabos to cabo san lucas.. they didnt have cabeza tacos.. i had the rib meat and it was ok, but I was really looking forward to eating fatty meat.. my boyfriend thought the carne asada tacos didn't have enough flavor.. Stop fucking around with the Surf n' Turf down in the Golden Zone. Venture out into the world and get yourself some legitimate Mexican Street food. Find El Gran Pastor and eat tacos. Many of them. This is the spot. It's where you go while in Cabo to find the best Pastor tacos. You know the deal. Huge pillars of heavily-seasoned pork spinning on a vertical döner grill with a nice bit of pineapple on top - the sweet juice melting down the side of the glistening orange-hued tower of meaty heaven. The hombre behind the counter of this hole-in-the wall will slice some glowing meat off the side of this swine sculpture, chop it up, toss it in to a tortilla and hand it over. Next you go apeshit at the salsa and toppings bar out front. Add some onion and some cilantro, then some salsa, and whatever else shall suit you. Go nuts. You deserve a reward for eschewing the tourista traps and finding the good stuff. It's cheap, it's delicious, and it's real. It's Mexican. This. This is why I fly south in the winter. read more
