What a sweet spot! El Harissa has an in-restaurant market that adds to its cozy vibe. I liked shopping gifts for my friends and family. You order at the counter and they bring your food up at whichever table you decide to sit at. They have lots of options and the restaurant smells delicious. They also have gelato that I wish I tried! The owner is very kind and struck up a nice conversation with me and my friend.

El Harissa is one of my favorite cafes in Ann Arbor. I always spend a small fortune when I shop here because there are many unique goodies to purchase. There is so much to choose from, whether it's gelato, Torres chips, or their many delicious ready-made dishes. I've tried the Chicken Tagine, Skordalia, Saffron Rice, and Merguez Meatballs; everything is delicious. There seem to be a dozen more dishes I haven't tried yet, so I want to try something new every time I visit.

The three of us had a lovely dinner at this unassuming Café and store. It is truly a pleasure to have a meal here. The food is cooked to order and then saved for reheating later, so you're eating food that has been cooked long and slow as the cuisine dictates. The mom and son who do the work of this establishment are both charming and friendly. Highly recommend.

Amazing, healthy, tasty food. Great service and friendly staff and owner. Indoor ans outdoor seating available.

Beyond satisfied by this food! Always leave healthy and full. The menu offers some more cultured food that offers some diversity from traditional Ann Arbor Restaurants. Liberty (An employee) is my favorite to work with and very hospitable. I'm also planning on getting my wedding Catered from here. Inside the place is set up like a Deli with seating, during summer the place breathes life, plants inside and out as well as outdoor seating.

I love El Harissa, but I am conflicted. The Harissa and the whipped feta dip tastes great. The saltiness of the olives in the feta dip hits the spot on pita or crackers. That said dropping twenty dollars for two small containers of dip does not feel like a good value.

Excited to have another Ann Arbor go-to! The ambiance is casual and cozy, which is great for an anytime meal. We came around 5pm and there were plenty of seats available. It was a little chilly inside, but I think with all the windows that can be tough to change. The service was truly stellar. We said it was our first time and we got a run-through of the best selling items and prices. After ordering (a ton of) food at the counter, it was delivered to our table in minutes. The mint tea is unsweetened which is fabbbbbb and an essential partner for every dish. In order of our favorite dishes: Harissa sauce, roasted mushrooms, roasted cauliflower, chicken tagine, egg tagine, tzatziki, lamb meatballs, Berber pie, eggplant spread called zaalouk. We ranked the zaalouk last just because it was a little heavy on the smoky flavor for us, and maybe because it was cold. I still ate the whole dish although my two tablemates didn't. GELATOOO-YEAH. I usually stick to the big hitting sweet flavors, but this is the type of place where I'm happy I ventured. I sampled a few flavors and landed on the spiced hazelnut and fig. I paired it with Tahitian vanilla and...oh goodness I'm getting excited just thinking about it. They generously fill the 4oz size, which was perfect after a large meal. They do takeout! They have a little market! Prices are fair for the quality of the food! Parking! Sahit, El Harissa :)

This is probably our favorite place in Ann Arbor and we can't believe we didn't find out about this place sooner. Their food fills your stomach and your soul. We had three courses which were all small portions but very filling. Just goes to show when quality and taste are so good, quantity doesn't matter! Their tabbouleh is excellent - we added a bit of their Himalayan pink salt and it was amazing. Next we had their red pepper dip and warm yummy pita. Then we had the chicken tagine and that was so delightful and flavorful. Finally, we had their gelatos and the nice girl let us sample almost all of the flavors. We finally landed on Turkish coffee gelato and lavender honey gelato. Our meal left us feeling good and not one bit stuffed. And the ambiance is super cute too. You're transported into a coffee shop kind of atmosphere where you can sit and enjoy your meal where you want! We sat at the high table to see the plants and the entire Cafe. We will come back here again for more!

I am a big Swiss fan so I asked if they had any - I ended up buying a small piece of one, which ended up being tasty, and also an aged cheddar they had, called Prairie Farms - they had a sample of it and it was DELICIOUS, which swayed me to try it. They also sell tiny little charcuterie boxes here and even big things of gelato. Everything looked really good. Staff is also very friendly - the girl behind the counter is a recent UM grad so we talked about that, I'm a 2009 alum. $6-7 for a small block of cheese is pretty standard for gourmet cheeses too, so I didn't think it was super pricey (although they did have some for $15+). I definitely want to stop by here again the next time I'm in A2.

Mostly, cheese for me. Today I picked up: six ounces of a very creamy Goat cream cheese, a smoked salmon cream cheese and a Goat feta. Since we had a cooler, I also bought a half pound of Detroit Street Brick cheese. It begins as a dense, crumbly cheese with a twist of lemon and ages into more of a savory, spicy flavour. The star of the show is the gelato. I say the best is the Coffee flavour. Closely followed by the Peanut Butter chocolate and the Dark chocolate. Today we split a Cherry Cream Cheese Gelato. It really hit the spot. The prices are a bit steep. You're paying for quality, not quantity. Always an education talking cheese with these folks! 08/24

I also got the double dark chocolate, which was decent but a little more lackluster than I expected. They have a huge variety of flavors though and it definitely feels like the kind of place you need to come back to multiple times to really explore the menu. Every time I walk by there's basically a line around the block, so clearly people love it. Thankfully when I actually went, the service moved pretty quickly. Definitely somewhere I'd come back to try more flavors.

It has a dimly lit, homey feel, with shelves full of local goods and a case stuffed to the brim with pastries. There was plenty of seating and two water stations. We didn't get pastries since we were about to grab lunch, but we ordered the chocolate covered strawberry latte and the mocha latte with light whip, both iced. They both came out really quickly! The mocha latte was smooth and the roasted flavor paired perfectly with the semisweet chocolate syrup. My favorite, however, was the chocolate covered strawberry latte. This was not too sweet, but had a stronger strawberry taste than I have ever had in a coffee drink. I got this latte with oat milk and it was still creamy and rich. That's some good coffee! All the excellent components combined to make a drink greater than the sum of their parts, and I GUZZLED this drink with an uncharacteristic quickness. I'm also confused by the macaron flavors, as they aren't tea-inspired. I would go to TeaHaus over this extension, as their tea is good and they have seating. Gelato - very dense and milky. A medium (2 scoops) is $4. I tried the strawberry green tea and an earl gray with lavender shortbread, and both mostly just tasted like milk - the flavors are accurate, but they're very weak and difficult to detect. The caramel and black tea with sea salt had a mild caramel taste but no salt. They do offer samples. Macarons ($2.25 each) - flavors are good but shells need work. They're really big (about 2.5" in diameter), and the rotating flavors are often fun and creative. Le Bon Macaron has better shell quality, but the flavors here are better. Compared to when I first tried them 3 or 4 years ago the macarons have improved, but out of the ones I tried recently only one (chocolate malt in July) was decent. Quality is really hit or miss depending on the batch you happen to get. -raspberry key lime (August) - really sugary with a weak lime flavor -bubblegum (July) - tasted very much like bubblegum but the shells were very crunchy and overbaked, and there were huge air pockets -superman (July) - too chewy and soft -brown butter pecan (July) - good flavor but shells were dry and too crunchy, and the buttercream was very stiff and buttery
