I just don't see what the hype is about either. There seemed to be a lot of people dining here who waiters knew by name, so maybe this is like Katy's version of "Cheers"? The queso was pretty good, but that is where it ended for me. The chips were inconsistent - some tasted fresh and others stale. The salsa? The only flavor was onions. I couldn't taste any tomatoes or other spices at all. I ordered the chicken enchilada verdes and my husband got the tacos al carbon. Our order came out in less than 5 minutes. Some may think that is wonderful, but if two plates are done so far in advance then that means the food was prepared well in advance. My husband's comment? He said he felt like he was at a "taco bell with table service". But the taste was what turned me off. Very little tomatilla sauce on my enchiladas and then there was an odd taste to the flour tortillas. Because of this, I ate the chicken out of the middle and dipped it into what little amount of sauce had pooled on one side of the plate. The service was good - but that is about where our pleasure with this place ended. It was just a bit too high priced ($48 including tip) for a place where they are obviously microwaving the food. Sub-par at best. Extremely watery salsa, very small (but still expensive) weak margaritas and an inattentive waitstaff leaves you wanting more. The exterior decor is fabulous with a beautiful patio, but it was hard to enjoy the beautiful spring day with the amount of smokers that invade their patio. The location really is amazing, but I really think that if they hired new cooks, lowered drink prices or if they made their drinks worth they'd be worth talking about. Great Great chips. Very nice waiting staff. Super bean dip & salsa with the chips. Great lunch specials and you simply must try the Queso puff. I have never had anything like it, but it will keep me from attaining my goal weight the rest of my life. It is that good. My family has been going here for many years. Probably 5 years even before they moved locations. Every time I come home from school we have dinner there. I love the fact that they're doing so well. Yes, if you go during primetime on a Friday it will be packed, but show me a good restaurant that isn't! After coming here for so long, my mom and I are completely set in our ways. I always get the Enchiladas de Mole, it's my favorite mole I've had, and I always am trying to get mine to taste more like El Jarrito's. I love the fact that it never tastes exactly the same, a sure sign of making it fresh. My mother always orders the Enchiladas Verdes. Other things that are good: the chips - thin, light, and crispy. The service - I think in the 8 or so years we've been going we've had two main servers. And Gil, the owner, is always around and checking on tables. On the patio is very festive they have table and umbrellas that are carved out of wood, beautiful fountain and a sand play area for the kids.. We will be coming back here! read more

When look this place up online you will see it pop up on Katy Online Kids eat Free on Monday website, however that site will not tell you that you need a coupon to activate the kids eat free coupon and that you will need to print it out beforehand. When I told the waiter he stated to me that printing out the coupon from the website is mandatory to activate the discounts. Since I was negligent in surfing the site before I got there I'll take the hit. Why couldn't this place be more eco-friendly and accept or make mandatory that we use electronic coupons. I mean we are in 2019, we are trying to save trees and ink. Obviously it was a scammy ploy to get us in there and purchase the food for FOOL price(get it?). The food was really good. Tortilla soup was great and flavorful. Omg thing to complain about was that we got there for happy hour and ordered drinks. We got margaritas with flavor.. I asked the waiter if it was happy hour and he said yes. So we ordered... also we went there because it was kids eat free night according to katy magazines website. The absolute worst. Never had been so thought to give it a try. Started off my going out to the patio and being told to sit anywhere but not up front because it's for a party - lots of confusion, the hostess should have just shown us the seat. They have great Margaritas and I like all the entrees I've tried here as well as the fajitas, nachos and their Salsa. Yep, I'm a fan. I've had their beef/chicken fajitas and chicken flautas and have nothing bad to say about those two. The chicken is always moist and the beef very tender and easy to chew. They give you those "burrito" style large tortillas with fajitas and all the fixings (beans, rice, cheese, sour cream, guac). Their queso leaves a lot to be desired. Not a fan at all of "white cheese queso" and El Jarito's didn't change that opinion. If you want "fresh" guacamole, there's a cart lady that comes around and for $6 she'll make it in front of you exactly how you want it. Definite friendly atmosphere. Their outside sign changes with funny tidbits every couple weeks. "Jingle bells, taco shells, fajitas all the way." Not too bad on the wallet either which is always a super plus in my book. read more

Service is terrible. We ordered a pick-up and we got an email saying it will be ready at 6:00pm. When we arrived it was not ready yet, but they told us it will be right out. The food is good, the house margaritas has serious tequila in it (not like the water-down version at some Mexican restaurants. Ok, this Satruday mornging was going to be my second attempt at giving a this resaurant a chance. A few weeks ago my wife and I had dinner, after hearing some good things about it. The waitstaff NEVER willing came to our table to refill our drinks or refresh the salsa and chips. We had to hunt them down each time. I even purposely left my ice tea glass empty on the edge of the table to see if someone would notice and refill. Our waitress walked by three time and said nothing. The refried beans were watery and no flavor. The rice was just as lifeless. I had the fajitas and they tasted as if they had been pre-cooked and then just warmed up again to serve. The queso was very average. I decided to give them a try for breakfast. The advertise that they serve breakfast begining at 8:00 AM on weekends; their big sign outside states they open for breakfast at 8:00 AM; even the hours on their front door state 8:00 AM. My friend and I got their at 7:50 and waited outside for 25 minutes. Finally at 8:15 we stopped one of the people who worked their and asked when they were going to open the doors. We were told they deicded to start at 9:00 today. Last straw to break the camels back for me, I will NOT be going back to this restaurant. Today was my first and last visit to this restaurant. Waiter (adult man), was so rude with us. I asked him to give us 2 minutes to think on a menu because it's our first visit. He just went away without any words, after he came back and asked something like "Are you ready or no? what are you waiting for?". I just let it go and ordered 2 quesadillas for me and my wife. After 15 minutes he brought a food box and receipt (nobody asked him to do that), we were still eating the food and wanted to order something else, but he had a different opinion. The food was okay, not what it used to be. The margaritas were watery. The most important aspect of our visit is this, our waiter finally brought our check. He hovered and hustled me waiting for my credit card. When he returned for my signature he hovered again, impatiently waiting. I took the time to actually "look" at our bill. It's a Saturday night, and we're new to the area, so my boyfriend and I decided we wanted to try a New Mexican restaurant. Coming in, it wasn't too busy for a Saturday night and we were seated right away. I even got to pick my seating! We ordered drinks and food and were having a great night. When we received our bill, I was a bit shocked and quickly became frustrated. We ordered 1 drink each, queso with meat, and 2 entrees. The bill was $70 .
