He has gave me my quality of life back and is a rarity in today's world of fast paced healthcare. He never fails to listen and show compassion. His nurse Beth is awesome as well and Eastern KY is blessed to have him. I wish he was here 5-days a week and if more doctors were like him the world would be a better place. I had all but given up and allowed my chronic pain to take over my mental health and suffered from debilitating back pain and depression/anxiety as a result. Post op after he referred me to surgery I am on the road to recovery and have my quality of life back again. God Speed Dr. Khan. Mad love and respect.

My daughter had a Neuro appt. this morning after having a couple of passing out episodes that we…read morethink are unrelated to her Type 1 Diabetes, being that her BG was in range as soon as she woke up each time. Dr. Khan had ordered a EEG to make sure that she wasn't having seizures so that meant no more than 4 hours of sleep last night. Then when we got to the dr's office it was a 2 hr wait because they had booked 3 EEGs at the same time and they are an hr each. So not only did my daughter have to stay up most of the night, get up at 4 am, but I had to keep her awake 2 extra boring hours in the waiting room. Anyway, after the test we seen Dr. Khan, which up to this point we loved because he was so nice and good with her, during the previous appt..He comes in and states that her EEG is normal that she isn't having seizures, that he wants us to follow up with her Childrens Cardiology appt. to make sure that her BP isn't what is causing the passing out spells. So I was so relieved and thanking God, and at this point figured we would be ushered out to leave. He then begins to ask about her blood sugar levels. I told him she is coming out of honeymoon, so her sugar has been all over the place and she has had to have her insulin doubled since Aug. for both carb correcting and Long lasting. He then proceeded to tell us that she has gained 2 (two) LBS in the last 3 months and needs to promptly be put on a 1500 calorie diet. He tells her that she needs to lose 25 lbs before she comes back to see him (in 2 months)! Asks me if I own a treadmill, I told him no, he then said I needed to buy her one for Christmas. He then told me I needed to research nutrition pyramid online and she needed to eat 5 meals a day, especially breakfast, even if it was only coffee! COFFEE! For an 11 yr old child! He then says, yes you are built big and strong and that is good, but no need to be flabby, and he pointed at her stomach!!! Yes, he said every word of this to my 11 yr old child! He called her Endo A** monkeys because they hadn't said anything about her weight. He told her that if only she would lose weight, eat 1500 calories a day, that he is sure her diabetes would go away all together. That he was positive of that. I was so shocked that this entire conversation had just took place that I didn't know what to say. He rambled on and on about he wanted to see her healthy and to please lose the weight. We walked out and she looked at me and said " he just called me fat! I need to go on a diet and lose weight." I told her, baby if you are 200lbs or 100 lbs, your diabetes isn't going to go away. He is a very undereducated man when it comes to the endocrine system. My daughter is 11 yrs old, an adolescent , preteen, girl! How dare him tell my 11 year old Type 1 Diabetic daughter that if she loses weight, that her Diabetes will go away? How dare him tell any adolescent, preteen child that! He is a neurologist, one that I thought would be more educated, but apparently not. He needs an education in Type 1 Diabetes vs Type 2 Diabetes! She goes to a Endocrinologist who understands that Type 1 is forever. If she needs to lose weight to improve her BS it's her endo's business to tell her, not him. She has had blood tests that prove she is a Type 1 diabetic, loosing weight will NOT fix it!! Just for educational purposes: Mayoclinic.org Type 1 diabetes, once known as juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes, is a chronic condition in which the pancreas produces little or no insulin, a hormone needed to allow sugar (glucose) to enter cells to produce energy. The far more common type 2 diabetes occurs when the body becomes resistant to insulin or doesn't make enough insulin. Various factors may contribute to type 1 diabetes, including genetics and exposure to certain viruses. Although type 1 diabetes usually appears during childhood or adolescence, it also can begin in adults. Despite active research, type 1 diabetes has no cure. But it can be managed. With proper treatment, people with type 1 diabetes can expect to live longer, healthier lives than did people with type 1 diabetes in the past. Type 1 causes: http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/type-1-diabetes/basics/causes/con-20019573 Type 2 diabetes, once known as adult-onset or non-insulin-dependent diabetes, is a chronic condition that affects the way your body metabolizes sugar (glucose), your body's important source of fuel. With type 2 diabetes, your body either resists the effects of insulin -- a hormone that regulates the movement of sugar into your cells -- or doesn't produce enough insulin to maintain a normal glucose level. There's no cure for type 2 diabetes, but you may be able to manage the condition by eating well, exercising and maintaining a healthy weight. Dr. Kreis is a straight shooter, but he is deeply compassionate and if you're not sure what's wrong, Dr. Kreis is definitely who you want to see! Dr. Kreis always spends more time with us than most doctors do and he is very patient with answering questions.

He was condescending to the point of cocky. We did not let him change her meds and her neuro gave her the anxiety meds said he didn't understand why he was so abrasive and to not go back to him. We recently moved from another state. I was diagnosed a few years ago in my home state, both with a…read moreneurologist in my town, and with a specialist at a neurological institute. Over the course of getting diagnosed, I participated in several EMGs/NCSs, MRIs, and ultimately, a genetic blood test that revealed I have HNPP. My daughter was diagnosed with the same a year later. I have been on a few medications since then, and I have not worsened, thank goodness. I have numbness and pain, but I only wear over the counter braces, and rarely. When I saw who was supposed to be my new neurologist, I was already wary. This man's Google reviews are full of patients saying he has screamed at them, belittled them, not listened, etc. The only reason I consented to see him (while making it clear to the office that I would call the police if he was verbally abusive) is because I also have severe IBS and can't travel to someone else. (We moved from a metro area of 270,000 people to a town of 30,000.) The neurologist (using the term loosely) here told me my tests probably weren't accurate because they were "not preformed in a university setting". He said the Mayo clinic says all tests should be done twice (well, mine were). He told me he's only heard of the genetic tests in a textbook and would never/has never ordered them, because they are totally unnecessary since these diseases are so rare. He said he hasn't prescribed those medications (a muscle relaxer and gabapentin) in 20 years because my disease has no cure, so what's the point? (Um, getting by on a daily basis, perhaps?) He said repeatedly that he doesn't know my former doctors (so I guess they're all liars?). He was actually mad when he asked what the gene was that was involved and I could tell him. He finished this appointment by telling me I'll be in a walker or on crutches eventually anyway, which every one of us in this forum knows is not medically sound, because we cannot predict our disease progression. He was almost gleeful in telling me this. He told me that he, the only neurologist in this health system, has no reason to see me. I was prepared for him to be lousy, but what shocked me was how confidently he spouted off things that were just simply untrue. If I was searching to find a diagnosis for what was causing my symptoms, or had just gotten diagnosed and was less informed, I would have sprinted to my car and sobbed. (Instead, I have made an appointment with my primary care to find out how I can get basic neurological medications, and to inform her how dangerous he is.) I can't fathom being nervous and new to this only to be told that my diagnosis is a lie, my medications are worthless because eventually, I'll just become completely handicapped anyway, and that this man magically knows the way my individual disease progression will happen. It's very scary to think of another patient in his hands. So if you're new to this, or a family member is, please don't accept substandard care and godlike predictions. Listen, read, ask questions, and know that your health, time, and care are valuable. If you encounter someone with a terrible bedside manner, find someone who is actually qualified to practice medicine.
