I strongly recommend El Macho for an authentic Mexican meal. They have a fascinating choice of smoothies: either regular with milk or water, or a spicy Mexican variety which is almost like a liquid dessert. Be sure to get one of the other depending upon your mood For food, my favorite by far is two different kinds of quesadillas: the one with mushrooms called hongos, and one with a cactus flower which is flor de calabaza. Ever since I discovered this local gem in Harrison, it has stayed on my agenda whenever I pass by This small Mexican restaurant has some of the best tacos in NJ. And, I don't know this because I'm Mexican. It's because the ingredients and taste are similar to the Mexican food I had while visiting California, where I discovered what authentic Mexican should taste like! They used to have a crazy $1 taco deal, where you could choose your own mix of taco meat options, but that's over now. They bumped up the price to 4 tacos for $8, and you have to order 4 of each type. They have other specials also posted on signs in front and on the menu, like $30 tacos for $45 and $12+ quesadillas. Nevertheless, the price is still worth it. The servers are always nice and cute mature Mexicanas. They have ample seating for indoor dining, but no outdoor seating. The restaurant is very clean and well kept with Mexican decor. I haven't tried any other dishes besides the tacos, which taste very good but could be more flavorful. The green and red sauces are also a bit watered down. Their chocolate milkshake was also good and made with real ice cream. However, it was a bit on the sweet side - which is common anywhere. It's a small quaint shop. Seating for maybe 30-40 ppl total. When you go in you can seat yourself. The service is fine nothing great nothing negative to say. The food was good. Very different from my usual Mexican haunts in nearby Kearny, this place serves up hearty authentic Mexican food in a semi-hipster setting. The waitress misheard our order but what she delivered instead was even better! Just placed an order online and had to call when noticed an item was serve on the taco that I am highly allergic to. I placed a called to ask them if they could remove this or replace the tacos (since the product touched). The attendant over the phone stated that the order was already prepared and that I would have to place another order because she would have to throw out my order and make a new one. As an established taqueria in my neighborhood I would think that since the order never left the establishment and got a phone call alerting to allergies because their site doesn't have a way to remove these items that they would make another 4 tacos approximately $2.18 in product lost for them to satisfy a customer who just spent over $40 and won't be able to eat a single bite. I don't want to bash the restaurant, it is one of my favorite places to have a quick tasty bite but that experience right there was just horrible. What do you guys think? I ordered 7 tacos and when I went to pick it up they handed me this small paper bag. I was confused how 7 tacos could fit in the bag but they wrapped them in foil and compressed them together. I normally receive them in a container and, in truth, I prefer the container because it doesn't squish the food like foil does but the tacos were amazing that I ended up not caring about the foil. Best tacos I tried in east coast so far. There could be better ones but out of the ones I tried so far, this place has the best tacos. I grew up in LA so I really love good tacos. I also love the fact they put lots of onions on tacos. Also they are not kidding when they say spicy salsa. I got sick once from eating too much of their spicy salsa. Just be mindful of what you are getting. My fiance usually gets quesadillas and he likes them so far. I haven't tried their burritos yet because their tacos are too good (and reasonably priced)!
