After an outing to the local Empire Mine State Park a quick yelp search brought us here. Had we known there was only one cook that night and our food would take just a bit OVER AN HOUR to be served we might have gone elsewhere. But we would have missed out on the YUMMY fresh flavors. We didn't know until we waited 35 minutes that there was only one cook at which point you think, "we've already waited this long... might as well stay". I know it's a small place so every penny counts but maybe a small consolation of regularly filling the complimentary beans/ salsa and chip basket would have helped (it got refilled only upon request) or offer another soda/ drink on the house or a complimentary dessert at the end. The decor is culturally cute and well loved and restaurant appeared clean. There seemed to be a couple of other tables celebrating special events so I'm sure that didn't help the wait time since they were kind of busy with groups. In any case, the food was good! The little guy ordered his two soft tacos with only carne asada, hubby had carne asada plate which came with grilled onion and nopale paddle, I got the carnitas plate. We got both the flour and corn tortillas which didn't seem homemade but warmed perfectly. The rice and beans pass my Mexican palate test - hooray!!! The meats were all flavorful and not over cooked. AND - OMG the green salsa that came with my carnitas--- this wonderful little cup was a surprise of heaven! I could have eaten that salsa all day everyday!!! The nopale was cooked just perfectly too. For drinks we had an Agua Mineral, a Mexican Coke and agua fresca de melón. Next time we head to the mines for a hike we'll probably drop by again... and maybe make sure there is enough help that there won't be such a long wait. No complaints and only praises in everything that we ate and drank!! read more

I love this quaint mexican restaurant! It is located off of South Auburn Street in Grass Valley. We shared the enchilada combo that came with 2 enchiladas ( dollar more for carne asada) with rice and beans. It was just enough to share! It is 13.45. The wine and margarita are both 9.00 each ( a bit pricey). They also give you complimentary chips and salsa and refried beans. Love the authentic salsa..so fresh! Please note if you want more chips and salsa they will charge you. They have beer and wine only and margaritas ( wine infused). The classic margarita was refreshing. They have indoor and outdoor dining. There is plenty of parking! The staff was friendly and our server Victor was professional and friendly. The order came out quickly! It was clean inside. Although it is a relatively small place they do have additional seating on the other side of the restaurant as well as plenty of covered outdoor seating. Very relaxing and low key place. Stopped by here last Friday night and I must say it was a great experience. Food - The food was very good. I got the chalupas and my fiance got the fajitas. Both dishes were very tasty and felt authentic. The chips and salsa were also very yummy. 5 stars for the food. Atmosphere - The atmosphere was pretty good too. It has ample room for guests and we did not have to wait to be seated. Chairs were comfy and it was a good vibe. Service - The service was excellent. The gentleman who served us was extremely kind and friendly and was very on top of everything. Kudos to the staff for their good service. In all, it was a great experience. We ate here last Sunday. We vaguely remembered eating here a few years before, but sadly we didn't remember the food was marginal at best. My albondigas soup was the worst restaurant meal I have ever been served in my life. I grew up in a Southern California Latino neighborhood and have been regularly eating quality Mexican food for 70 years. My wife is Latina. When it was served it looked really strange. It was bright orange and that is because it was mostly carrots. Then I remembered I had ordered the same soup on the visit before and didn't think it was very good. At least the first time the meatballs were eatable. Not this time as not only were they overcooked to a crisp they were tiny, like the size of marbles. The only favor it had was from the stupid chopped-up carrots. We moved from Southern California to Grass Valley 30+ years ago and El Milagro is the only real authentic Mexican food restaurant in the area. If you love Mexican food you will love El Milagro. The food in this place is amazingly delicious. This is our second visit and I would highly recommend this business to anyone in the area. I had the enchiladas el Milagro. And it was tasty, Moist, perfectly seasoned, enough sauce. The rice and beans were also delicious. I am taking a pozolo to go. Haven't tried it yet. But if this is seasoned like the rest of the dishes, I am sure I will like it. The people were friendly and the customer service was excellent. The place was clean and nice atmosphere. The only suggestion I would make is to have a sign near the street pointing to the restaurant. It was a bit hard to find. There is only a Mexican flag near the street, but it needs a sign with the name of the restaurant not the Mexican flag. If this restaurant was near where I live (dublin, CA), I would be eating here every week. I hope to come back to the area soon to try a different dish. read more

This is my second time eating here. The first time was a to go order. I wasn't impressed and kind of forgot about this place . However, it was a busy Sunday and we needed a convenient place to eat and stopped here. It was much better for dining in. It was very busy but we were greeted and sat right away. Very friendly and attentive staff. Our waitress was very good and knew her menu. You could see everyone was working hard, but you never felt ignored. I appreciated how our food took the appropriate amount of time to be served. Like our dish was not premade. You know how in some Mexican restaurants your food comes out within two minutes after ordering. The time we waited, actually felt like they were properly preparing our meal. It was also well presented and everyone at my table enjoyed their dish. Pictures below are: 1. pollo de Milagro - it was good. I ordered mine without onions and bell peppers. It is a spicy dish. The chicken was nice. It wasn't chewy or fatty. 2. Sopes- it's cornmeal patty topped with chili, Verde, black beans, cabbage, and a little sour cream. I ended up swapping my dish with my partner. I could not continue to eat my spicy dish, which was good, so we traded. I really enjoyed this dish too. The cornmeal "tortilla" was a little tough to cut through in the center bottom but it had good flavor. 3. Chicken fajitas.- this was also presented very well. In the past, when you order this dish, there seems to be an abundant of veggies and less chicken. This dish was the opposite. It had the right portion of all and the chicken was good. 4. Shrimp fajitas.- again well balanced with the amount of shrimp and veggies and it was also enjoyed. The chips and salsa was just OK. I'm a bit of a salsa snob, but salsa was tasty. We were in the area for a wedding Saturday and looked up nearby places for late lunch. I had high hopes based on reviews but it is just a solid 3 stars for me. We walk in and the man at the counter just stared at us. He did not greet us or say a word. I said hello. He says hello. Awkward silence. No can i help you or how many in your party. Finally I had to ask, "Um, do we order here or seat ourselves?" Then it finally dons on him that we came here to eat and says, "Oh yes sit anywhere and I will come take your order. Here is a menu." Hmnn... The place is small with about 8-10 tables? There was two other couples seated. Chips n salsa with bean dip arrived at our table. Both were average but bland. Hubs ordered two item combo with Chimichanga and crispy taco. I ordered my standby fajitas. Wait time seemed a smidge long only but food arrived right at the moment I thought they forgot. My fajitas were sizzling hot and my mouth watered in anticipation. I was very pleased to find they made real guac and not green goo. The beans and rice were good. Unfortunately my fajitas seriously lacked ANY kick or flavor. It was that bland. Same can be said for hubs dish. I like it spicy enough to make my nose run and my palate wondering what is in it. The answer was nothing. I don't even think there was salt in it. Prices are avg $12-15 pp. Service mediocre. Food while fresh, was just too dang bland. Taco bell has more flavor. Service was pretty bad this eve. We were seated quickly , had a bowl of chips , salsa and their bean dip (great idea!!). But the drink order took considerable time, and then ordering food took a decent amount of time after that (so the stage was already set). Food came, while hot fresh and cooked right, lacked flavor , not bad but not great. Carna Asada was cooked well, tasted the char and a very faint flavor profile, so you tasted more than charred carna, but really not enough. Tortillas were hot, rice and beans were fine (not sure how much flavor one can expect there). The real issue was no follow up to ask if the beer drinkers wanted another or water, and trying to get the bill and pay, was a huge painful ordeal, ignored, then walked up front , said we would like to pay, someone came to the table, but to clear it and ask if we wanted desert, and not too bring the bill. We waited for ages and finally, the party walked up front and forced the issue. So maybe an off night, low staff, but doesn't explain ignoring that we wanted to pay. And again all parties said the same thing food was okay but wasn't great, prepared well, just kind of bland. Salsa and chips were nice, ask for the hot stuff and mix that into the standard salsa to get some heat with flavor (yes salsa had flavor, probably would have been better off to have had drinks and chips/salsa only. read more

Seeing changes.. hope it's not permanent. Less meat in the entrees. Below 4oz of chicken Lots of filler.. carrots, rice, onions peppers, beans. Crispy tacos have shrunk to HALF of their original size. From a delicious and meaty 8" gordo crispy taco size to 4" fiesta street taco size with no meat. If they start using pre-made shells, it'll be bad. A "bowl" of tortilla soup is no longer a normal pezole* size bowl. Newer smaller cups/bowls are now being used.. except for pezole which is still served in big bowls. Hoping Sabino and crew straighten this out soon. read more

The food was well seasoned, but when you think Mexican food, you think large portions! I ordered the fajitas, and asked for the shrimp as my meat.when it came out, it was mostly onions with six medium shrimp with tails on. The side platter came with literally ONE tablespoon of sour cream, TWO tablespoons of cheese, and one tablespoon of guacamole. I would say there was a cup and a half of rice, since I don't care for beans. I had to ask for more water for the table, and salsa too to add to my dish. My sons ordered enchiladas, and again they were five inches long, which are tiny by most Mexican restaurants standards. I ordered a peach Bellini, which was a combo of a champagne type liquor, peach flavoring with minced pieces of orange peel(?) The flavor overall of the food was good, but it was overlooked by all the other many issues going on. read more

We visited El Milagro for the first time.. nice clean restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. Anthony was our server and greeted us right away and seated us. Within the first minute we were seated we were served chips, salsa and bean dip and ordered our drinks. We asked Anthony what he recommends and he shared his favorites and was nice, patient, and helpful answering our questions. We ordered steak chimichangas and they were delicious. Visiting friends who live here in Grass Valley, we four went here for lunch. It was excellent. Located off the main thoroughfare of Grass Valley, it is in a small shopping center, really small, of house-like businesses. Park right at the restaurant. Simple decor, nice people and the menu is straight forward. Traditional Mexican dishes all cooked to order. The food was good, portions reasonable, service excellent, prices reasonable. Just nothing to write home about. Interior is very small, about 10 tables. Very popular with the locals as it is like a social event place to gather, chat, eat and drink. I see lots of five star reviews, a surprise to us as the food, while good, was not very flavorful. Could use a bit more zip. If you are in the area it is a nice place to visit. read more

Our experience at this place was okay. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't very good, either. We are from the San Diego area (which has excellent and authentic Mexican food on almost every corner), so perhaps our hopes were too high, but the reviews were good, so... After being seated, a very small basket of chips, a small bowl of salsa, and a small bowl of bean dip were placed on the table while we looked at the menu. The chips were good, and the salsa was decent. However, when we asked for a second salsa, no one mentioned that there would be an additional $1 charge for it. Not a big deal, but it is courteous to inform the customer rather than let them be surprised upon receipt of the bill. We each ordered fajitas. The food's flavor was on the bland side, the vegetables were a bit overcooked, and the beef was very overcooked, to the point of being chewy. We literally couldn't bite through it, and the strips were too long for a single bite. This made eating a messy and trying ordeal. The chicken was cooked fine, but again, a little bland. The rice and beans were fine, but nothing special. The service was disappointing. When we first arrived, the restaurant was not very busy, and they seemed to have a decent amount of staff to meet the needs. However, our waitress and other servers made a habit of not looking around the room when they came in and out so that when we wanted our waitress's attention (she had brought the wrong kind of tortillas), it took several minutes of waiting and waving before another table closer to her ultimately had to raise their voice to get her attention on our behalf. This is far from terrible service, but it's a bit annoying. So yeah, overall, it is an okay place to eat, but if you are hoping for great, flavorful Mexican food with attentive staff, this isn't the place. I don't think we will return. read more
