This winery is a new winery that is owned by the same family that owns Casa Encinares. There is still a lot in the work that needs to be done at the winery, but they have a BEAUTIFUL wine cave and tasting room. They also have an outdoor restaurant overlooking the vineyards which is gorgeous. Recently they added a Spa and Bed and Breakfast at a nearby location. Casta De Vino's wines are mostly red blends and are delicious ! Definitely go check it out when you're in Valle de Guadalupe in Mexico !

As I sipped my first cup of their offering they began to tell me about their plans for a shop. As I exploded San Felipe it hit me pretty quickly that the town needed a great coffee spot. Enjoying that first cup I knew their venture would be a success. Fast forward to today and their vision has come true. Cafesito Lindo is a very cool spot. Their coffee is delicious and the menu has a wide variety of choices. CL has an excellent selection of local baked goods with a number of sugar free offerings. They also sell regional cheeses that are sourced from around Ensenada, an area known from outstanding artisanal cheeses. The shop itself is a very comfortable and has a mellow vibe. The staff is all family and they are wonderful people. The walls are adorned with beautiful local art, most of which is for sale. There is also jewelry and other items from local artists for sale. Be sure to check their website for current hours as CL's Summer hours differ from the rest of the year.

While she couldn't remember the name of the place she gave me directions that brought me to Panchita's. For this I will be forever indented to her. Panchita Tamales & Empanadas is a small walk-up joint with some outdoor seating and an equally simple menu, but what they do they do well. The menu has four varieties of tamales, about a dozen choices of empanada and drinks. That's it but trust me it's everything you need. The tamales are made fresh daily and are ready to go when you order. These aren't restaurant tamales but the type you'd expect to get from a local family that has their tamale game down. The masa is flavorful and steamed perfectly. The fillings (chicken, pork, beef and queso w/roasted pablanos) are all made with the same love as the masa that blankets them. Words don't do them justice. The empanadas are made to order and are equally as artisanal as the tamales. The puffy pastry shell is a perfect combination of chewy and a nice crunch. I had a pepperoni and a suprema on my visit. They were both excellent! The portion size of the empanadas at Panchita is very generous so come hungry. As I mentioned earlier, the empanadas are made to order so expect to wait, but trust me the wait is worth it. On my first visit I had 3 tamales, 2 empanadas and a soda for about $7 which for food of this quality I felt like I was stealing. Panchita is a bit of the beaten path but only a few blocks off the main drag into town but it's definitely worth the journey.

Again, very limited options in San Felipe, Mexico- but where else can you go? They use quality, fresh ground coffee though. Normally only one roast available along with espresso. And they have soy and almond milk for those that want it. However, no oat milk and no half & half(which I happen to use 95% of the time) One thing that has me perplexed is the fact there is no existence of half and half in Mexico it appears. And I love my half and half in my coffee. I've been to many coffee shops down there and they want to give you whole milk, evaporated milk, or if they have- heavy cream. Just not the same for me. But I'll just have to settle for what they got to offer. There's a chain in Tijuana called D'Volada that is the closest thing to a Starbucks or Peet's. If they could just open one down in San Felipe... although this place is still the best option.

However, I did find them to be appropriately roasted and to have a balanced flavor profile. I feel like it will satisfy most coffee drinkers. The cafe is located at just about the Southern end of the main strip across the street from a large hotel/resort. Parking was easy early in the morning although I suspect it might be more difficult as the day progresses. La Taza gets a recommendation not just because it is one of the few coffee spots in town, but also because it is genuinely good.

I had the coconut shrimp, and my husband Michael had the Garlic Shrimp. Both were delicious and cooked just right! The coconut shrimp was sweet and crispy. You can never go wrong with garlic and it was also very tasty! I also did the wine-tasting option and enjoyed the descriptions of each one from Laura!
