You know it's authentic when there is beef tongue tacos on the menu! I can't say enough good things about the food, service and atmosphere. We were fortunate to be able to go on a nice weather day and ate in the outdoor seating area. We were greeted and seated immediately. I looked around at everyone dining and it looked like a smattering of the entire menu. After looking over the menu several times, I had such a hard time making a decision because there were so many great choices I wanted to try! I ended up ordering the Chicken Milanese Torta (with everything except the beans on the side). The bread seemed so fresh with it's fluffy and chewy texture. The sandwich was a a big serving size but I happily ate the entire chicken covered in panko breading wrapped in the bread with all the fillers! I regretted eating the entire thing for a whole 2 minutes but got over it because it was just delicious. The basket of fresh tortilla chips and salsa were great starters. Each piece was thick, freshly fried, very crunchy tortillas. The salsa was very watery, but to me, in a good way. It's very different from store bought salsa. The consistency was starkly different from what you'd find at the store. The salsa appeared it was made fresh with simple ingredients yet super flavorful. It felt so healthy I couldn't stop myself from eating more. I was so happy with the meal, we went 2x in the last two weeks. If I have craving for Mexican, I will be going back!

This place used to be Crazy for Pizza, but I'm so glad it switched to Mexican cuisine! I love having another option around the area. Their menu has a lot of different taco options. Given my diet, I typically only pick vegetarian or seafood options. The cauliflower taco: cauliflower is well seasoned and has a slight kick to the spiciness, but the red sauce and guac all lacked flavor and depth. I liked the shredded white cabbage as a base but wished they'd give more for the added crunch against the sauce and guac. The shrimp taco: shrimp is coated and fried to golden brown, but I think the coating is too thick and there's not enough seasoning in the shrimp or the coat. Overall flavor is just lacking. But the pickled onion really saved the day here-- it added the much needed sweet and sour and strong flavor. The fish taco: generous with the white fish and seasoning is OK, not as strong as the cauliflower but not as weak as the shrimp, but I would have preferred a stronger flavor. Again, I think the pickled onion really helped with this, and I do appreciate the added pineapple cubes and tomato chunks. Those would work for the shrimp taco too to be honest. The guac for all the tacos were discolored in a brownish color, probably because they didn't use enough lime or lemon to prevent oxidation, and as reflected in the flavor lacking the sourness. The salsa verde is also lacking in the pungent sourness, but I chalk it up to every establishment having its own take on how to formulate their own homemade salsa verde. It has the refreshing taste and seems a bit thicker than I'm used to, and lacking the lime citrusy flavor I associate with Mexican food. Overall not bad still. Not spicy at all tho. The corn tortilla was fine, but I wished they'd toasted it more to be tougher and crunchier. Not sure if it's just because these tacos have been sitting around for a while (we were on time in picking these up so that's not the issue here). Overall, I think it's not bad at all, just needed some tweaking to make it better-- fresher guac and go harder on the lime/ascorbic acid part, more cabbage, stronger sauce flavors on all account, stronger seasoning on all account.

I went to El Poblanito for dinner as El Poblanito had advertised taco Tuesday special of $2.50 tacos each. This review is based on my first visit to El Poblanito. El Poblanito is a local neighborhood restaurant that serves Mexican fast food. On their menu, you'll find items like tacos, burritos, quesadillas, tortas, pizzas (Mexican and American kind) in NY and Chicago style, and more. El Poblanito is a counter ordering service store place, and after ordering and paying, the food is brought to your table. When we arrived, we were attended to promptly. We ordered a total of seven tacos between three of us and a horchata beverage. We ordered: 3 pollo tacos 1 al pastor taco 1 chorizo taco 1 campacheno (al pastor & carne asada mix) two 1 roasted cauliflower taco For the description of these tacos, check out my menu photos. The food came out promptly. The tacos looked and tasted good. The tacos were on the small side similar to the street tacos size, but the filling was loaded. I had a pollo, a campacheno, and a roasted cauliflower taco. I liked them all. My top favorites were the pollo and roasted cauliflower tacos. I also tried the al pastor and chorizo tacos, and they were tasty as well. The red and green salsas by the table side were flavorful and tasty. The red one had a smoky flavor that I liked a lot. The horchata was chilled and refreshing. It was perfect to wash down the spicy tacos I ate. It had the right amount of sweetness. Although, it could've used a bit more cinnamon. The restaurant was nice, clean, and well-lit. The menu has a nice variety on it, but some of the items are a bit on the pricey side. E.g., their cemitas (sandwich) is $13, and tortas are priced from $11 - $14, etc. But the food and service are good. I would definitely recommend checking out El Poblanito for what they have to offer. I'll be going back to try other items in the near future.

Small family owned restaurant with great food and a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Great place!

The atmosphere is very casual although they do offer table service. Free chips and salsa were not great - chips were very, very greasy and the salsa was like water with a few pieces of onion and cilantro floating in it. The Al Pastor taco was decent with a good amount of chilies marinade however it was cooked in as griddle and not on a spit. The crispy shrimp taco was great however - three nicely battered, crunchy shrimp with a chipotle aioli and some cabbage slaw. Well worth the $5. Chorizo tacos was as expected and the carne asada meat was fresh. The beans and rice were lackluster in flavor yet aren't pretty much all Mexican restaurant beans and rice really boring?! Had either the rice and beans or the chips and salsa been better and they would've gotten four stars. Service was efficient and pleasant. The owner tells me I'm used to eating Tex Mex? No I'm not, we've been to Mexico many times and eaten at many local restaurants so he doesn't know me or what he's talking about. We like highly flavorful food from all over the world and these rice and beans were not. If he thinks that classic Mexican that's his opinion.

We came by for lunch on a Saturday afternoon! At first we weren't 100% sure if they were open because it looked pretty dark from the outside but it may have just been the tint because when we walked in it was very bright. My husband and I are HUGE fans of El Poblanito at the Highwood markets, truly one of the main reasons why we go every time! When we heard they opened a restaurant it was an absolute no brainer to come support. We decided to dine in. Salsa and chips were brought out to us immediately, we likely were the first few folks who came in as they were still setting up. I got 2 shrimp tacos and 1 carne asada taco, while by husband got the house made chicken quesadilla. We also got a side of rice to share. The chips and salsa we delicious, the salsa was full of flavor and even had a little kick to it. The shrimp tacos are what I think about and what lives in my mind rent free all the time. This time however it was a tad bit cold so it wasn't as crispy as I'm used to at the market. Same with the tacos, I'm assuming because they kept the tacos while making the quesadilla of which came out pipping hot and super delish!! The green salsa is incredible with both! The rice was a bit underdone but if done fully I know it would be so good as the flavors were there. They also have horchata and jicama aqua fresas both of wish were so good too! All in all, we had a great time!

This place is fantastic. Just try it, you won't be disappointed. The owners and staff are very attentive and incredibly welcoming. I highly recommend the shrimp or carne asada tacos. Inside was clean and well decorated for the perfect, authentic Mexican cuisine experience.

When I placed my order, the server said "good choice" and she was right. They were served with rice, beans and lettuce and really hit the spot. My friend ordered tacos and also commented that the food was really good. By the time we left, only one other party had arrived. Considering how slow business was, we noted that the service was pretty slow. Our server was attentive when we arrived, but once the food came and we ate, it took an awhile for her to bring the check and then awhile longer for her to process our payment. The place has a lot of visual interest from the moment you walk in, with scenic landscapes and photos of people covering all the walls. That made the ambiance fun in what is otherwise a pretty casual place. Overall, this was a good experience and I'd like to return. I hope others try it, too!
