And while St. Matthews has a lot going on, it lacks convenience stores and/or bodegas. In addition, the owner and the employees are always super friendly and kind. More than once I have forgotten my wallet and they let me take my items anyway, knowing I will come back as a loyal customer. When they were out of their fried chicken, they fried some just for us. They have also been doing a lot of remodeling, so the place offers even more products. It's just a great little store in a convenient location.

In the past month, they've felt unwelcome in the store. This evening, I walked my son and daughter up to the store so they could buy some candy. I waited outside. My son came out and said that once again, the man behind the counter was rushing him. The man said, "come on, hurry up" and was tapping his hands on the counter. This is the second time this has happened. There was another incident in which my son and his friend rode scooters up to the store. They propped their scooters up against the building and were yelled at and told that they would have to pay $800 if they damaged the building. So, they left and shopped elsewhere. After we walked home tonight I drove up there and politely asked the man if there was a problem with the kids being in the store. I explained the experiences my kids have had. I asked him if he told them to hurry up. He said that he did and went on to explain that a couple of weeks ago "20 kids" came in and they did damage to the store. I feel terrible that happened to him but I told him that my kids were not part of that group and have always been polite. Not to mention, the first time he rushed my kids was several weeks ago. I explained that we support his business. He said he didn't care if it my kids were not part of the group that caused problems. His exact words were, "I am not a Walmart. If you want to shop somewhere else, you can shop somewhere else. Kids have three minutes to shop in the store and that rule is for all kids." It is a bit disheartening that, after trying to talk to him and understand the situation better, he basically told me to shop elsewhere. We won't be shopping at the St. Matthews Mini Mart again. We love to support local businesses so this is a bit disappointing. If you have kids who like to shop there, you may want to supervise them.

I had only ever tried it late afternoon and had never been that impressed before. The plates at lunchtime, I now know, are way better than what you find later in the day. I decided to get three plates and mix up the entrees and sides so the folks at home would have a choice. Main dishes I chose were meatloaf and fried chicken and among the sides were mashed potatoes, Mac and cheese, green beans and Brussels sprouts. You also get a choice of bread, roll or cornbread. I didn't try the chicken but I've had chicken from this location many times and it's always good. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the meatloaf was. I'm usually always disappointed when I order meatloaf out but that was not the case. It was not at all dry, it was very flavorful and a bit on the sweet side which I didn't mind. Portions were very generous. The Mac and cheese was really good and I liked the Brussels sprouts as well. My family members said everything was good. I also got a pound of strawberry cobbler and it was delicious. The food was hot and fresh and packaged for easy transport. Service was friendly and reasonably fast considering it was right at lunchtime. A note about that: if you're planning to go on your lunch break, it might be worth it to call ahead and order it so it will be ready when you get there. It takes time for each customer to order all of their separate items and for the clerk to plate up the food, wrap and label it. If you get a few people in line it can take awhile. Plate lunches are about $10 each.

When checking the expiration date on the cupcakes I noticed it said December 25, 2025. It's January 21, 2026. And all the packages had the same date. That's ridiculous. Of course they apparently don't sell bagels either. I ended up at Kroger. Unbelievable.

The lamb was DRY -- it hurt to chew the meat. All so disappointing. With so many other better options in Louisville for Ethiopian food, it'll be an awhile before I give this another try. P.S. Don't let the size of the place fool you, they have everything that a mega sized store would have. Fresh produce, dairy, meat, etc. they even make fresh food here. The staff here are amazing!…read more I sought out this grocery looking for two Indian cooking ingredients in particular, and not one, but two staff members helped me to locate it, despite a bit of a language barrier we found both items together! This grocery offers more than groceries, they have an abundance of toys, blankets, and other odds and ends as well. The only reason this is not a five star review is due to the odd unpleasant smell I encountered and the dustiness of the store.
