East Los Angeles Civic Center Gold Line Station - Dia de los Muertos 2024

From…read moreits southern terminus at Atlantic, the line travels west along Third Street to Indiana Street, where it turns north for two blocks to First Street. From here, the line continues west to Little Tokyo, partly through a tunnel under Boyle Heights with two underground stations. At Alameda Street in Little Tokyo, the line turns north and crosses over the Hollywood Freeway, and stops at Union Station on tracks 1 and 2. At Union Station, riders can connect with the Metro Red and Metro Purple Lines. From Union Station, the Gold Line proceeds north on elevated rail to Chinatown, and then crosses the Los Angeles River adjacent to the Golden State Freeway (Interstate 5). From here, the route continues north/northeast, serving the hillside communities north of downtown, including Lincoln Heights, Mount Washington, and Highland Park. Through this stretch, the Gold Line operates primarily at grade, except for a short underpass below Figueroa Street. North of Highland Park, the route crosses over the Pasadena Freeway (Interstate 110). The route continues through South Pasadena and then downtown Pasadena, primarily at-grade. In Old Town Pasadena, the line travels underground for almost half a mile long, passing under Pasadena's main thoroughfare, Colorado Boulevard. (Memorial Park station, just north of Colorado Boulevard, is below grade.) Finally, the Gold Line enters the median of the Foothill Freeway (Interstate 210) and continues east to Sierra Madre Villa station, in Pasadena just west of the Sierra Madre city limit. Very cool and very convenient!!!!

Took my daughter along to show her the ropes of taking the Gold Line on top of knowing her bus lines around the city. Lots of parking here, both behind the courthouse (beware on Saturdays when Farmer's Market & events, can get filled up fast) and also residential but as always, read the signs before doing so, I say! Also have some decent eateries on Mednik, in case your stuck out here for awhile...there's always something you can find to do to keep the time going....The park, although small, is nice.

I'm updating my review for two reasons. First, I've now used the parking structure. Second, the…read moreGold Line is no more, and this station is now the eastern terminus of the E Line (it was formerly the the southeast terminus of the Gold Line and then the eastern terminus of the southern half of the severed Gold Line)--new experience and all. PARKING STRUCTURE It used to be free on weekends, but it no longer is. That's kind of annoying, but $3 for three hours is pretty good. There are plenty of parking spaces. You can use the Metro app to pay for parking, or you can use the machine on the first level. If you use the machine, you'll need your license-plate number, so either memorize it or take a photo of it before you go downstairs. There's only one pay station. I believe parking is free from four a.m. to eleven a.m., but I may just be misreading things. You would end up paying way more for parking (and gas) if you drove to your final destination, so don't complain about a dollar an hour. Unfortunately, there's only one entrance to the parking structure, and you have to be heading southbound on South Atlantic Boulevard to enter, so even though the address of the station itself and its platform are technically on Pomona Boulevard, you'll need to approach on Atlantic from the north to park. Trust your GPS in this one case. The elevator is Peesville, USA, so don't use it if you don't need to, and don't touch anything with your bare hands. E LINE If you want to go from East L.A. to Santa Monica for $1.75 (or $0.35 if you're a senior outside of rush hour), this is your stop! I've yet to make that entire trip, but I've now traveled to two Notre Dame-USC games from here. The first time, it was to Jefferson/USC Station to see the Notre Dame women dominate the No. 3 Women of Troy at the Galen Center. The second time, a week later, to Expo Park/USC Station to see the Notre Dame football team punch its College Football Playoff ticket against a defenseless Trojan defense. Atlantic was our starting and returning point on both occasions, and it still scores three stars as a station. They need more fare machines. At the eastern (parking-structure) end of the platform, there are only two. Because the machines are so complicated, this is nowhere near enough, especially at the beginning/end of a line. My other complaint is that the distance from the eastern end of the platform to the parking structure is ridiculously long. I never noticed this before, but then I had never ridden the train with someone who couldn't easily walk long distances before. When the E Line gets extended farther east (all the way to Whittier!), they're actually going to rebuild the platform southeast of where it now sits. I hope they take walking distance from parking to the new platform(s) into account.

Stars off because they have changed the dropoff location of the buses to a parking lot, instead of dropping you off right at the ticket windows. If you are disabled and can't do the walk from the parking lot, you will now need to wait for a golf cart to take you the rest of the way. No worries, they have the cart, but it's less convenient. The bus has a lot of passengers getting loud and obnoxious. Also, I did not appreciate driver Mohammed stumping for tips multiple times, including asking the passengers directly, waving around a tip jar and even posting his Venmo.

And then walked to indicated 1301 Avenida Cesar Chavez, we were 45min earlier waiting at the bus stop in front of ELAC. They didn't show up at all. The location shown had no sign but at a corner of cover parking structure in a small street n not even the designated street on main Avenida Ceaser Chavez. No sign n no body there at all n we walked to the Avenida Cesar Chavez main street in front of the bus station 70 thinking it might make more sense. We're there 5:25p waiting til 6:05p for the bus supposedly arriving at 6pm. There's no show n nobody. The address is super confusing. So we decided to walk back our car for another 6min and drove to Hollywood Bowl.. This bus line 659 is so bad. We reserved and purchased the tickets ahead too. They need to re-evaluate this bus line service. Their waiting location was mess up n wasn't indicated as the address given. Not sure where to complain for this poor bus arrangement n confusing instructions at this Monterey Park Location. The previous comment wasn't good. This 659 bus shuttle probably wasn't interested ppl to get on, or else it wouldn't had such bad coordination to passengers. Not reputable n not recommended at all.
