Stopped by to pick up a Too Good To Go pizza and ended up staying to try a burrito and tacos. I wasn't sure what I wanted so I ordered two carne asada tacos and my boyfriend ordered an al pastor burrito. Both were sooo good! Tacos came with a nopal (cactus) that our baby enjoyed too, lol. The owner (?) was super friendly and gave us a complimentary carnitas taco that has us both still day dreaming about it days later!! She also gave us some nuggets for baby which was extremely generous of her, the portions are good and the food is definitely quality. I went there because it was advertised on the Too Good To Go app. Big mistake, they don't need to be on that app. I really believe it is false advertising just to sell the worst pizza in Oakland. Ca. The box looked like it came off of the internet along with the dust! I took one bite of the pizza and knew I had been scammed! I thought I was getting leftover homemade food! Instead I got a pizza with a terrible after taste! Straight out of Wally World. All that food they had and I fell for the okie doke. I gave slices to the homeless people on the next street over! They can keep that $6.60 I should have told the guy ugh, "I don't want this" never ever again. I spotted this truck while heading to the Alameda County Household Harardous Waste Facility (http://www.yelp.com/biz/alameda-county-household-hazardous-waste-facility-oakland) around the corner. Tacos are $1.50 each and I got 2 al pastor and 2 lengua along with some horchata. Each taco came with a slice of avocado along with the salsa and a decent dollop of meat. They also provide a very generous helping of sliced jalapenos, radish, pickled carrots, and a couple of lime wedges. See my pic for details. I enjoyed the lengua much more than the al pastor which was bathing in a spicy sauce, but didn't seem to have much flavor on it's own. The avocado was a nice touch that I haven't seen as standard at other taco trucks. The generous helping of jalepenos, etc along with the salsa and meat juices created a nice pool of juice on the plate completely soaking the corn tortillas which made eating the tacos extremely difficult. Burritos might be a better choice here. The horchata was a little on the watery side. All of the other options just a few blocks away on E 14th, makes Oaxaco just average in my book. read more

While getting home late on Thursday I popped out of 12th Street Bart and heard live music. Figured I'd check it out and came to the split of Telegraph from Broadway blocked off with a stage, some vendors, and a taco truck. Considering I didn't have dinner and didn't want something huge, figured I'd order some tacos. The taco scene has changed lately in downtown. There is still Xolo, which only works when you are drunk, and Belly is always delicious but non-traditional. Everywhere else is either closed or only lunch, so with a solidly reviewed taco truck, I had to get a few. I think they may have updated the prices, but nothing too crazy, like $2.50 I think. I went with 1 each of Asada, Al Pastor, Chorizo, Cabeza. Tacos were solid! Haven't had tacos this good in Oakland for a while now. Only had onions, cilantro, and salsa (got both kinds) and that was all I needed. May have also grabbed a tamarindo Jarritos. So if you see this truck in your area and craving quality tacos, I can recommend this truck. read more

I only wish I had tried these tacos sooner. Really good flavors and great meat preparation. I had Al Pastor and a fish taco. It was a big chunk of fish - probably tilapia. Nicely seasoned and spicy, tart, creamy sauce served on the side. I am an Al Pastor fan and I don't always like the way some places make it. This place makes it the way I like it. Marinated in pineapple juice but no pineapple chunks included. Nice sides included - pickled carrot, raw cucumber, roasted jalapeño, very fresh lime wedges to squeeze. 2 tacos was a full meal. I've been eating lunch at least once a week at this taco truck for almost 8 years now, and it has never failed me. I have yet to find a better vegetarian burrito ANYWHERE in the bay area. Seriously. For $4.50, the default is beans (refried, whole, or black), rice, cheese, avocado, lettuce, tomato, salsa, sour cream, cilantro, and onions. It's so much better than other veggie burritos because of the fresh veggies (where else do they put in avocado for free?) and because the modest portions of beans and rice, the building blocks of a good burrito, are super tasty and not just bland filler as is so often the case. The woman who owns this truck is extremely friendly about customizing (I leave off onions and crema and ask for extra salsa) and always offers a baggie of pickled jalapeños, carrots, and radishes. Though I order the veggie burrito 95% of the time, I can attest that the carne asada, the pastor, and the chicken all make great tacos and burritos as well. Avocado comes standard on the tacos, too! If you catch them between 10am and noon, the breakfast burrito (eggs, potatoes, cheese, salsa, optional meat) is another decadent treat. I believe they park at the Kennedy street location (on the frontage road off the 880S 23rd Ave exit on your way to Alameda) from about 10am 'til 3pm on weekdays, then move to a spot on International and 70-something Ave in the evenings. Some don't do it at all, some will bring a table and give you a choice of 4 meats or whatever, but these ladies were like "Sure, we'll pull up and people can eat whatever we've got!" And so they did... Many of my guests went back for thirds and fourths. One guy had 8 tacos. Everything was delicious, and way less expensive and less trouble than traditional catering. Who knew that a great taco truck like this existed in the middle of the Berkeley Flea Market? I was walking around with the boyfriend, when we realized that we were hungry for a snack. A man walked past carrying some good looking tacos and we went searching for the source. Lo and behold, there was a standard looking taco truck around the next corner waiting for us. Before approaching of course, we whipped out the blackberry: "Someone must have yelped these guys...." And a 4.5 star rating off two reviews was good enough for us! My boyfriend got an al pastor taco, and I got a carne asada taco. Normal sized street tacos. The price was about the same as taco trucks I've seen in Oakland. Good tacos both! The corn tortillas were really high quality. Thicker than usual - and I love my masa. But that's not all! I noticed a little sign that said "Special: Pozole". If I'd been hungrier I would've ordered some on the spot; I normally have to go to Mexico and visit my grandma to get some. So, I asked the amiable girl in the truck how often they made it, and she replied that since it was so hard to make that it was usually random. Apparently I looked disappointed enough for her to offer me a sample. How could I refuse? Then they just gave me a small bowl of Pozole! For free! And it was really good. One of my co-workers swears by this place. When I randomly drive by during lunch I always see his car here, without fail. There are so many taco trucks near the "Hoe Stroll" in Oakland, that he could patronize instead, I interpreted his brand loyalty as a ringing endorsement. I stopped by the other day and ordered a couple of tacos de asada and al pastor to see for myself. The carne asada tacos did not disappoint. The meat was flavorful, and all of the tacos came with a slice of avocado - which is unusual for a street taco, but much appreciated. The al pastor was just 'aite. I still prefer The Sinaloa truck for al pastor. The truck is parked in a dirt lot across from the 880 on ramp off Kennedy. Parking is fair. I used the trunk of my car as a table to eat. Update--7/18/2011---- OK, I figured out why the rice on the fish taco was greasy----when they ask you if you want 'everything" on the taco, that means Mayonaise on the fish taco----not sure why, but I am not a big fan of Mayo as it has too much caloric/fat downsides for what it brings to the table. Supposedly the best tacos in all of East Oakland, I say otherwise. The tacos here are 1.50$ each and that's because they put avocados in it! It was fresh and yummy looking but their sauce wasn't all that. My bf said the last time he came they had already put the sauce on top and it was green but they gave us red sauce in a container. I like this place because it's right on the way to Alameda from 880 South. (23rd Avenue exit, just before the Fruitvale exit.) They're tasty and fast and friendly. This is the spiciest food truck I've found in Oakland, (in a good way.) I usually ask for my Al Pastor burritos spicy, and here they really put on the heat. Taco Truck Adventures in Oakland are almost as awesome as exploring your street walkers on e12th and e14th streets. Sooo many to choose from, some clearly cheaper than others, some cleaner that others, some you would never attempt to try out, and some you pass up. - This all coming from a local John of the Taco Trucks. Maybe someday I shall check my self in to rehab, but for now I fire away with another awesome Jason review. Tucked away on a small side street, barely noticeable to people passing by coming off the freeway, and clearly not the idea spot for a taco truck; or maybe it is, lays the wonderful El Taco Oaxaco. This truck in my opinion serves up some of the best taco's you can get a hold of from a taco truck in East Oakland. I've tried several things here, from the Tortas which I honestly disliked with a passion, to the Taco's. When it comes to the items to purchase here, the Taco is the one. Like any other John on the hunt for a amazing taco, you gotta shoot from the hip and dive right in; hell maybe find yourself a regular and dishing out more dollars; like myself, I am now very hip to coming to El Taco Oaxaco to dig in deep and destroy some taco! My only complaint about this small, quite, off the beaten path taco truck; they tend to be extremely slow getting their orders completed. So be ready to wait for your taco. This is not your typical "John" experience. This taco is not about rushing to deliver a sloppy result that leave you in mediocre heaven. Nope, this place takes their time to put together a master piece of a taco. Carefully selecting proper portions of meat, never chewy, never too salty, and topping it all with fresh produce and any other fixings that stimulate your experience. The wait is well worth the way this girl gets down! So, in the end, in a land full of way too many taco trucks, way too many options, and clearly the ability to shop around and try shitty to amazing taco's. I'd say El Taco Oaxaco is the way to go.
