We had the two cheese quesadillas for appetizer, the tacos al carbon with rice, beans and guacamole as well as the Beto's special. So first time I ate here was maybe 5 months ago. The food was mediocre and I left smelling like grease. Decided to try it again this week. You know, give it a second chance. An older lady came and asked us what we were ordering. She said the kitchen is closing. She never even said hi. Made us feel very unwelcome, like we were an inconvenience. We had beans, Chile relleno, beef enchilada, beef tostada and a beef burrito. The chile relleno had " cheddar" inside, totally not the usual cheese for a chile relleno. It was covered in a really odd sauce. I couldn't finish eating it. The beans had maybe a 1/2 tablespoon of grated cheddar in a tiny pile. Not much to say. They were refried beans. The 3 beef items had a flavor that was odd. We both noticed it. We couldn't pinpoint the spice but it's nothing familiar. It was not a pleasing taste. We have eaten at a ton of Mexican places and have never tasted that flavor before. Fast forward to the register. I asked for the total. The ticket was handwritten and she never handed it me. We were definitely charged for more than we ordered but couldn't read it other than to see more items listed. Maybe there was a charge for chips and salsa?? So yeah. Unpleasant servers, unappealing food, random extra charge?? And leaving smelling like grease again. We won't be back. Definitely not authentic Mexican food. My wife said her chicken and the ground beef tacos had no flavor (they didn't have shredded beef). My carne asada was under cooked (NOT ASADA (SEARED) AT ALL) and had no flavor. I substitute carne asada for pork in my huevos rancheros and (without telling me) the price went from $10 to $18. The Spanish rice and the corn tortillas were good. The Good: Best Mexican food I've ever had. The margaritas are awesome! The service is FAST and efficient! Best of all, The food is consistently good!!! And it's family-owned by hardworking, friendly folks. The restaurant is always clean -- and always packed (quite a feat in Wyoming). The Bad: Nothing! The Food: A little challenging to find veggie options, but I figured it out after a few visits and order sides -- a guacamole tostada, rice, and sometimes a quesadilla. The rice is yummy but to spice it up I get extra salsa and pour it on the rice, it's delicious. The guac tostada is also delicious with a generous amount of guacamole, and the quesadillas are always crispy on the outside and cheesy on the inside. My boyfriend gets the tamales and loves them. The Service: Fast, efficient, friendly. They has been there for twenty years and the family and employees are true restaurant professionals. They clean tables super fast, easily accommodate large groups, and they are always busy--when they're open (they're closed 3-5 PM between lunch & dinner and are closed Sundays--they're family-owned and family-oriented!) We were unimpressed with the salsa that tasted like spicy marinara sauce and the chili verde sauce that wasn't green... Open for lunch and dinner, it has a wide-ranging menu, is reasonably priced, and enjoys a casual, warm atmosphere. This is the real deal. Although I eat there weekly, one of my favorite times of the year to eat at El Tap's is around college holidays, because the restaurant fills up with families and their returned college students--all of whom insist that eating at El Tap's is the first thing they want to do when they get back to Powell. read more

It's brown, hot, mild and nothing to write home about but it fills the tank (assuming gas is what you're after). I'll continue to go on occasion but doubt it will ever be better or that they will smile and learn my first name but it will likely not be horrible either. My usual order is a chicken enchilada with rice. Delicious! The servings are plenty and filling. The service is impeccable as well. They are there to serve you and make sure your needs are fulfilled. The pricing is reasonable as well. The only complaint on that is that an extra sour cream is a dollar. A little steep for another table spoon of sour cream. Chips and salsa is the highlight of the meal. (Besides the actual food of course!) the chips are warm and perfectly salted and the salsa is homemade. Also, big difference between pollo y carne, which again is as mixed up on my enchiladas. However, at least it was of the same course variety (unlike the relleno).
