Close up of the 3 eggs in the ranchero sauce
    Fred B.

This is a very small taqueria/Mexican grill with a rather varied menu with few surprises but loaded with taste, so typical of the hole-in-the-wall places we search for continuously! Some housekeeping items: They open at 10AM (I approve of this), there is no table service, but your order will be brought to you if you are eating in, there is a nice salsa/condiment bar with a great version of Crudito (I also approve of this), the older gentleman who takes the orders will make sure you get what you want - Whew, that wore me out! I ordered Huevos Rancheros, Estiallados style - meaning the eggs are not scrambled or as the term Revueltas means, broken! The eggs, there were 3 of them, were cooked poached style rather than fried, and though they were cooked to the point where the yolks were a bit firm, the overall taste was good. The ranchero sauce was a bit different from the more traditional versions in that there was little tomato present, but there was plenty of sliced onions and a nice heat level! The sauce was layered over several tortillas which lacked any crispness that is normally seen. Overall the dish was very good even though not the most authentic I've tried in the area! The platter also contained refried beans and typical Mexican style rice, both of which were very good. Additional tortillas were included as well, bring the total to 5. The great, friendly service and the quality of the food will bring me back to try more items l. Ambiance - 3 Food - 4.5 Service - 5 Value - 4 ($10.99 for the dish)

My wife was getting routine maintenance on her car nearby and we came to pick it up across the parking lot. We were both hungry and she said there is a Mexican place right here that gets really good reviews. I said, let's check it out. El Taquito sits on the roadside corner of a small strip mall which shares the parking lot with a larger restaurant and is right next to the auto repair shop. El Taquito is not very big. I think there are eight tables inside and we saw two tables outside. When we walked in we were immediately greeted by the young man behind the counter. We looked at the menu board on the wall and everything looked great. My wife decided on the three sopas with asada. I chose the four taco plate with two pork tacos and two asada tacos, we also bought two bottled waters. The young man told us about the salsa bar as well which looked well stocked with a nice selection of salsas, radishes and pico. We had a seat at a table and the young man also brought us three bottles of sauce and explained there were two mild sauces and one hot. Shortly afterwards, he brought our meals. Everything looked fresh, delicious and yummy. My wife visited the salsa bar while I added some of the mild green sauce at the table to my tacos. We dug in and really enjoyed our meals. We would absolutely recommend to others and will be back!! Yum, Yum, Yum! The employees were both very nice and the prices were reasonable.

Ok. So. I've been eyeballing this place for years and finally had a chance to eat there. Holy... poop. I AM SO UPSET I didn't go here years ago. (You must get the guacamole, just do it. I'm requiring it.) As we sat there shuffling guacamole into our faces (luckily we were the only people there so no one's there to witness the destroying of said dish) our tacos came out fairly quickly. Those were also demolished. I wanted my partner to try the cow brains but they weren't up for it quite yet (personal reasons not because they didn't want to) but I've never seen such a wide range of meats/veggies to choose from. And you know it's good good when there's several cars waiting for to go orders that were high in price. They only have modelo but it was a perfect pairing. We will be going back as it beats out the rest of Winston. Hands down.

    This is their menu.

This is a cool hole in the wall type place. The tacos are great and come in a portion of 4 which is a good meal if you eat a lot like I do. The person at the counter wasn't the friendliest, I felt like I was a bit of a nuisance to her. The quality of the tacos made it for me though. I had the beef cheek which is similar in texture and taste to barbacoa, I had beef tongue which is not for everyone, but has the taste that I remember and it is trimmed so it doesn't have the texture that some find unpleasant. Their pastor is one of the best I've had and the chorizo was really good too. They have good looking horchata and guava juice which I will definitely be trying when I go back there. The food was quick and generously portioned and overall the general atmosphere is nice.

While on a very busy street you can smell you've arrived at the right place. I was looking for breakfast in between jobs. I'm a fan of huevos rancheros so I hopped on yelp and El Taquito was the first option. I'm glad I took the few moments I had to try it out. While it's on a very busy rd and shopping area the restaurant seemed to slow all of that down once you enter. The service was delightful and funny. I received great recommendations and substitutions. I went with the chorizo omelette and it was amazing. The omelette was massive and filled with real chorizo. The beans were so authentic and secretly stole the meal for me. The rice was great while at bit hard still amazing. The owners were very friendly and joked with me as I placed my order. Don't judge the picture lol I was driving and the plate slid. Definitely stop by and thank me later there's a bean and salsa bar I'm looking forward to trying next time.

Friendly staff. Clean. The burrito was big and filling. Everything was good. Nice experience.

Seen post about this restaurant and discovered it was near my sister's dog groomer so we decided to venture in while the dog was at the groomers. I love tacos and can honestly say these were the best tacos I ever had for an amazingly low price. All tacos are less than $2.00 each. They offer a lot of the same items as other Mexican restaurants but this is a small counter service restaurant so no margaritas but fresh made to order food. They have a great salsa bar with pico that has a nice kick to it due to jalapeños and a spicy salsa that I was too nervous to try. We came in for lunch on Saturday and it wasn't busy so took minutes to get queso and tacos. I can't wait to go back and try other tacos and menu items!

I was visiting from California and I discovered this hidden gem. They have very authentic Mexican food. The tacos are delicious and they have a wide variety of different meats that you can't find everywhere. The red salsa is spicy and a must try. Last but not least, the customer service is A1. You should definitely check El Taquito out!

Great whole in the wall restaurant, my favorite type of restaurant!! We ordered the chorizo burrito and chorizo tacos. Both so savory, salty, and delicious!! They have sauces you can add, but honestly the food has so much flavor by itself. I typically don't order rice in my burritos, but it was a great decision here! I was super impressed and can't wait to go back for another burrito :)

I've driven by El Taquito for a few years now and said it looked like a place I'd like to eat. I finally made it happen, and I waited much too long. El Taquito is really good. I tried the tacos with carne asada and chorizo (2each) both came filled with meat, onions, and cilantro. I also tried the chicken nachos ...AMAZING. I really appreciate the salsa bar and red and green salsa brought to the table with my meal. They have drinks by the bottle, including a pomegranate aloe vera drink that tasted like liquid jell-o (in a good way). The service was really helpful, the food came out quickly, and everything was delicious.

The ordering system is flawed - there was just the 1 person taking orders and bringing the food and drink. This and a slow kitchen resulted is waits for everyone. It took well over 20 minutes to get my meal, but when it did arrive it was decently done, but like all versions I've tried, it was far from an authentic dish. The ranchero sauce was a deep red, a richer red color than I have seen before in this sauce. It was rather chunky and was really mild, I doubt there were any peppers ( most often jalapeños are used) in the sauce I was served. While the eggs were not overcooked ( both yolks were runny), the tortillas were separate and were not fried. And the refried beans were separate, as well! The only items that were combined were the eggs and the sauce. This was not a bad dish, but neither was it Huevos Rancheros. One of the key elements that makes the authentic version such a hardy classic is the combination of tastes and textures from the combination of ingredients. And one of those important items are the fried eggs with the yolks still runny - this adds a certain creaminess to the underlying sauce. I'll keep looking for an acceptable version of this dish.

From the moment we sat down, the food just kept coming--and everything was fresh, hot, and full of flavor. We tried a variety of dishes including quesadillas, taquitos, tacos (steak, carnitas, and beef), a burrito we shared, and even a sizzling skillet that was SO good. You could tell the food wasn't just sitting--it was coming out fresh and made with care. The margaritas were definitely a highlight. They had a wide variety, and the drinks were flowing all night. I personally had a skinny margarita (recommended by our waitress), and it did not disappoint. One thing I really appreciated was them giving us a preview of their weekend brunch menu. They had pancakes, eggs, and even brunch-only refreshers for those who don't drink, which I thought was a nice touch and shows they're thinking about all types of guests. Beyond the food, it was nice hearing the story behind the restaurant and how the name Ma'Luz was inspired by family. You can tell they take pride in what they've built and their presence in the Triad. Overall, it was a great night with great food, strong drinks, and a welcoming atmosphere. I would definitely come back--especially to try more of the menu (and next time I'm getting a margarita flight because I missed out ).

Not only did I have the pleasure of trying this absolutely amazing dish, I had the pleasure of having leftovers. Let me tell y'all. This? This is food. This is where culture means Cajun. This is where innovation meets culinary. A quick run down of what we're looking at here. First, I have the seafood boat. A LITERAL boat topped with a fish as the sail. Ugly fish staring at me, but absolutely delicious. Crispy. Yummy. The boat had the BEST ceviche I've ever had the pleasure of devouring. Fresh, seafoody, and scrumptious. Pair this with crab, extremely crispy fried shrimp, oysters, more shrimp, and so many things I could write a post about just this item and still feel like it's not enough. Second, I have the House Sauce Seafood Boil. Now, this is just the prototype. They're also wanting to add sausage to this, make different types, as well as do a headless shrimp version. This was... What can I say? Delicious? Juicy? Scrumptious? What I do know to say is this: I'd buy it again. It was massive, it was filling, it was messy. Last and not least, we have the Super Fajitas. 4 kinds of meat, vegetables, tortillas. This is a meat lover's dream with sour cream. Delectable. Sizzling. Fresh. Mmm. Leftovers. The fancy drink? Locarita. Pink Flamingo or something like that. That was allllll my wife's and she savored every sip. There was more than enough food here. We ended up with enough leftovers to last us a year, I swear. Try it out. Let me know. Let's geek out about fresh food from a fantastic staff with the best food, and honestly, the best family environment. Bonus picture of my wife kissing the ugly fish. She's my better half and the more adventurous eater.

The restaurant is beautiful, the atmosphere is warm, and the energy is just good. You can tell immediately that a lot of heart, time, and pride went into creating this space. We originally planned on getting queso and chips, but the owner recommended the seafood dip instead... and I'm thankful we listened. It was creamy, rich, and loaded with seafood. So good that at times we were literally asking each other, "Wait... what seafood is this?" -- and we didn't care because every bite was amazing. Then came the Barco El Patrón seafood boat, and whew. That thing is no joke. The presentation alone is impressive, but the flavor and portion size took it to another level. This is absolutely a shareable dish -- enough food for multiple people -- and you can tell a lot of effort goes into making it just right. My birria taquitos were hands down the best birria I've had in North Carolina. Crispy, flavorful, perfectly seasoned, and cooked with care. Every bite was worth it. And let's talk about the drinks. I had a cocktail flight created by Erica, and every single one was delicious. Balanced, smooth, and full of flavor -- not overly strong, just made really well. I enjoyed all four without feeling overwhelmed, which says a lot. But honestly, what stood out the most was the hospitality. Erica and her husband were kind, attentive, and genuinely thankful that we were there. They even refused our tips, which just shows the type of people they are. You can feel the love they have for their business and their customers. This is the kind of place you're happy to support. Amazing food, great drinks, beautiful atmosphere, and people who truly care. We'll definitely be back.
