Looking for Mexican style food with a little spice was not to be found. Portions are large enough for 2 but food was very bland. From nachos to pork to tacos we were disappointed and the price was higher than expected for what we ordered. $15-25 per plate. Was in town visiting from out of state: I went here as a kid, so I brought husband for sentimental reasons. Server Sergio was great! I had just 2 critiques: 1) the Chile relleno was soft & fluffy almost like it was microwaved. So, the texture was gross. 2) Either the dishwasher or someone standing near the plates thought it would be ok to clip their fingernails. So yes, at the bottom in my plate was a lovely fingernail. Good food kind service, they didn't seem ready to handle a large party like what we had the food was okay good size portions but still overpriced in my opinion they didn't have an area to accommodate a very large party so we were all crammed at one of their larger tables to try and accommodate us without splitting us up obviously if you are a smaller group you won't have this issue but still again I don't think it met quality for price. On that note I will definitely be back to try it on an individual basis. read more

This place was absolutely disgusting. The waiter said the torta was on a French baguette but it turns out it was just a hot dog bun. Waiter was also rude as can be and got mad when we asked for a soda that wasn't still. Anyhow, just go to another place because this was a let down and they shouldn't even call it Mexican food. I've come here several times over the years and the food and service are good, but not great compared to similar restaurants in the area. ATMOSPHERE: The restaurant appears small from the outside, but feels rather large once you're inside. Majority of tables are large red booths that comfortably seat 4. They have music playing, but the chatter can get loud later in the evening. SERVICE: Even though a large party walked in ahead of us, our group of 4 was immediately seated in a booth. Our waiter promptly took our drink order and when returned with the drinks took our food order. Once we got our food we didn't see our server till he brought us the the check, so we had to flag down another server to get another round of drinks. FOOD: The portions for one dish could feed a family! You definitely get your money's worth and will have plenty of leftovers for the next day. Our table started with margaritas, which were pretty strong and fairly large. They bring chips and salsa when you're seated and one salsa tasted like ketchup while the spicier of the two had a mild kick. I love spicy, so I wish there was a bit more spice to the salsa. I had the Burrito Supreme which comes with choice of meat (chicken or beef), guacamole, cheese, beans, tomato and I think rice. It was good, but the sauce on top was the only thing that gave it much flavor. OVERALL: Decent food, good margaritas and friendly staff. Worth trying if you're in the area. read more

Was told the margaritas here were good. I went for my birthday on 10/18 and left after the big disappointment. My husband and I have never had such bad margaritas. Picked it up & headed home but not before reminding them that they forgot my 2 horchata drinks in which the guy pulled out a carton of Kern's Horchata & poured that... what kinda authenticity is that? When I got home we realized they forgot the beans & rice in my Wife's combo meal. Then her shrimp was not cooked all the way, as it was was still kind of raw. My son's bean & cheese burrito had cold cheese. We basically threw half the food away. Salsa and chips are really good. My burrito sucked , it was so soggy in the inside, shouldn't be like that. Our soup was luke warm, and then we see the couple across the way with steaming hot soup. So that sucked! And the service, well if you want help just yell at the server so they can stop and help you. And people right isn't traditional Mexican food at all. read more

I took my sister to have dinner at El Torito and was so pleasantly surprised by our watress Catherine (Catherine the great) she was quick and efficient but more importantly she was friendly and personable making this easter dinner feel more like an extended family dinner. Be aware, the original owner was unpatriotic to regular customers but now that his children are running things, a regular customer of 3 or more times a week is frowned upon because she is afraid they might get any appreciation (comp). So this regular can't have the waiter of their liking, if they are unhappy with their service, meal, or drinks than so be it! When I had a question about be overcharged we were blown off, told this is what we are told! 10 years, 3 different ones of their Restaurants, know at least 10 workers by name, but they have new leadership ! I've was weaned on this restaurant but this past year changes have been made that will now keep me away such as taking the lard (taste good) out of the beans, some "light" good that is supposed to be the blue cheese dressing. Tried this place for the first time Easter Sunday for brunch and holy cow was the food disgusting. WAAAAAY over salted. Beans tasted like they came from a can. Tortillas were clearly store bought. Anyone that likes this place is clearly not Mexican because you would know better HAHA. And if you are Mexican and still like it then your parents failed you and obviously they never cooked at home. WHAT DID THE SHRIMP DO TO DESERVE THIS..?!? Here's the story, morning glory. When they told me they didn't do fresh seafood cocktails, that should have been a warning sign. No Cockteles Camerones ? As fate will serve, my sweet wife decided on the shrimp enchiladas, while I was pondering the shrimp burrito. They did have a separate Seafood Section, after all. Someone made the decision to offer cooked seafood somewhere along the line. First Bite Memories - "This shrimp is bad... as in turned... spoiled". In fact, I was almost ready to send it back. Second Bite Memories - "It's not gone bad, the cook just has NO IDEA how to cook this type of formerly frolicking sea-creature..!" It was SOOOooo over cooked that words cannot even describe the sad experience. Grainy, dry, leathery. Both of our dishes. Sauteed to oblivion. At that point, as I looked over at my wife's facial expressions, which were not happy, a sad reality was starting to creep into my peripheral thought process... THE COOK JUST DOESN'T CARE..!!! Could it be, I thought? In this economy... they don't care...?!? That has to be it. Sunday brunch. We reviewed the menu and it appears that the average price for a meal is $18.00 so we opted for the "all you can eat" champagne brunch for $8.95. 1. I was not offered champagne nor was any brought to the table 2. The food gestapo serves you the brunch at the buffet -- one spoonful of whatever you ask for seems to be what you get 3. No salad at the salad bar - picked clean and no one around to fill it up again 4. Watery mashed potatoes and they were extremely "al dente" aka crunchy 5. Bacon was soggy 6. Salsa had zero taste - it didn't even taste like tomato 7. Refried beans had no taste. It was like paste - ok maybe that's a "taste"? 8. The place is FILTHY. My husbands pants got some foreign substance on them from rubbing against the underside of the table So for $8.95 I got no champagne, ONE cheese enchilada, one spoonful of watery crunchy mashed potatoes, paste aka beans, and one spoonful of soggy bacon. This is an old time Mexican Restaurant that probably hasn't been renovated ever, and never should be. Sure, it's a little dated. The tiles are old. The decor is a little tired. But isn't that where you get the best Mexican food? Being from Vegas I pray to the Mexican Food God's that one day a restaurant like this will find it's way into town. Great lunch specials, good prices, and most importantly awesome food. The beans & rice were great. I went with the Flauta's, which were huge, moist, and really tasty. Mom's had the best Chile Rellano she's had since we moved from San Diego 15 years ago. Pops had a taco salad which he raved was the best he'd had "in nearly 20-some-odd years." Wife and bro both went with combo plates that didn't disappoint. Just a really good option for Mexican food. The service was adequate. It was busy during the lunch hour, so nothing too notable to mention. My drink remained full, and that is probably the best service anyone could provide me. Came here for lunch with my mother- in- law today. Was seated fast, brought chips and salsa and menus. I ordered the cheese enchilada, taco lunch plate and my mother-in- law got the 2 cheese enchiladas lunch plate. Our food was brought out decently fast. Was hot and fresh. My enchilada was delicious. Lots of cheese, and the sauce was perfect. My taco was also very good. Rice was decent, but beans were the best! I ordered my husband a to-go order. An off menu order of hamburger patties smothered in enchilada sauce and cheese. I tasted his meal, and it was really good too. Was Kind of like Salisbury steak with a Mexican kick. We paid and left, then went about our day. I noticed my wallet was missing and remembered that the last place I left it was here, so my mother- in - law called, they asked me to describe the wallet and confirmed that it was there.
