This place is a Delaware institution. Is it authentic Mexican cooking? Probably not. Don't get the enchiladas they are too nutmeg cinnamony. I've eaten here several times and enjoyed their food at a rehearsal dinner and wedding. Some pros are the employees are top notch and will work hard to correct any issues. There were a few, but they solved them fairly quickly, without argument, and a smile. The interior is fine, the hotel attached? Hmm, I mean it's Delaware, Ohio right? The margaritas are excellent and not all sour and sugar. Give them a shot, and I would trust them with a party or bigger event. read more

Yummy! With it being right off next to a railroad I was hesitant to try it. A friend of mine ended up suggesting we go and man am I glad I did! Not all chain restaurants are the same. This El Vaquero location exceeds many of the other locations I've tried around Central Ohio. The staff is always friendly and they remember their customers. The dishes I've tried throughout the last three months have all been amazingly delicious! Chicken fajitas Enchiladas sauzas Tacos Pollo Marinado Speedy Gonzalez Fajita Quesadilla They have brown Mexican rice as well as white rice. I am not a fan of refried beans but theirs aren't bad. I do not like the guacamole salad because I never seem to get the guacamole?! I have eaten at El Vaquero for 20 years and I'm never dissatisfied with the food or service. Today I took advantage of their $2 El Pastor tacos on Mondays special. It was ridiculously good. Food came out quick and was hot and spicy. The side of tomatillos salads was really nice too. The location in Delaware is a little hard to get into as it's nestled behind McDonald's and the Pacer Inn, but it's easy once you know where it's at Friggin delicious!! read more

I have been going to this restaurant for what seems like my whole life. Without fail the food is fast and delicious and the service is always exceptional. Our server last night was so extremely polite and attentive. The chipotle chicken is a classic dish for this restaurant so I had to try it and it was wonderful. The bean dip is also a classic which was great. We also got a pitcher of their frozen margarita which was great and not too sweet. They have plenty of parking available and they have an awesome patio. This is a Delaware staple! read more

I've been going here every week for all my life. Excellent service - Ana is our favorite! We like to start with a trio (queso, beans, and guac) which is all very good. Everything else on the menu is reliable, but my favorites are cheese enchiladas and chicken fajitas. read more

I'm disabled. I can use crutches or a wheelchair. This parking lot has a handicapped spot on a incline without extra room for wheelchair navigation. Main entrance has three steps and a odd ramp in the door. I wouldn't call this handicap accessible at all. Unless it's easier to enter thru the patio which we didn't try. Two employees were smoking on a side door at the parking lot. Neither offered to assist me. Not a very festive environment or decor inside. Mismatched pendant lights with white led mini chandeliers. Server is nice but when I asked if the Avocadilla (vegetarian) is good she said 165 is good. Plate came out and it's kinda skimpy for the price. $10.99. Tomatoes seem to be Roma. Overall environment... we have an elderly couple at the next table whom cannot hear one another and they've had adult beverages. She keeps repeating herself and he keeps saying "what".. she's announced next time she needs a small beverage. It was annoying but became funnier as time went on. Sampled my friends flautas. Not impressive nor were the refried beans nor their mexican rice. Waited awhile for the bill and the restaurant wasn't busy. I prefer LaCarreta in London, OH over this restaurant. read more

There aren't great Mexican options in Delaware and if you don't make things difficult, you'll be just fine at Vaquero's. Stick with fajitas and quesadillas and you'll be fine. Tacos al pastor are my favorite thing to get at Mexican joints and theirs are pretty average. Dry, and not terribly flavorful. For the love of god, DO NOT order carne asada. Truly inedible. Doesn't taste like it's marinated at all, dry, overcooked, not even sliced. It comes covered in barely cooked onions. I'd say the closest thing I've ever tasted was liver and onions. This place definitely gives Mi Cerrito a run for its money in terms of best Mexican restaurant in Delaware. Great service, never any issue with wait times or food being made incorrectly. It's the best mexican food in Delaware. That said, don't expect true authentic mexican - this is firmly in the Americanized Mexican category.... with the exception of a few items. Salsa is generally good, but very mild. Cheese dip is very good and has been called liquid crack by many who try it. Tip: The Sopa Azteca (Aztec Soup) is great.... but only at this location (they make it differently at the other locations). Stay away from the ground beef... pretty much steamed beef with little or no flavoring - the worst of their meat choice. They are always fast (even when there is a line out the door) and reliable. read more

Have been a regular for 2 years . A total shot in the dark . Good experience or terrible! Not worth the risk. They threatened police calls on my wife for food we were not served and took over 50 minutes to bag. We had already offered to pay for our soda and queso that we got to eat barely any of. I had been in the car because I was heated and came in to confront the manager and server because of threatening police against my wife over not paying for unserved food and AWEFUL service. Fabulous Mexican food in a small town, not known for it's Latino population. Vaqueros is a great place to go with friends. They are very willing to make your meal an experience, especially large groups. The food is fantastic. If you are looking for an inexpensive place for authentic Mexican food (none of that Tex-Mex stuff like Taco Bell), this is the place to go. Also, you can call ahead and order for pick up. read more

Was one of my family's favorite restaurants until ownership seemed to change is early 2009. Food is still ok, meat is often undercooked. Seems that focus was taken off quality of food to improve speed of service. Margaritas are hit or miss depending on if they are made right. Sometimes they taste like cheap rubbing alcohol or are watered down. I tend to lean toward their specialty margaritas because they are made individually and not ingredients dumped into a machine. They are always able to accommodate us quickly, no matter how large our group is. They have several large dining rooms, including a large banquet size room in the back where we had a 60th Birthday Party. Generous Margaritas. Ridiculously fast service. If you are worried that your kids need to eat NOW, this is the place to go. Everything must be precooked in huge vats, because it will arrive rushed to your table in minutes. The jalapeno poppers are cheap and yummy, not spicy, just creamy goodness. Have been going here since it opened and I have to say this will be the last time. Place was dirty, floor was sticky, service was horrible, food was cold and it was way too warm in there for a hot summer night which caused the place to smell of body odor. When your fajitas come out with no steam coming off them and dry as a bone and your wife has a burrito that is cold and dry in the middle, then you know the food is old and not worth the effort. The chips and salsa were not even up to their usual good level. As I said, I've been coming here for years and years and this was my last time. Don't waste your money, drive 15 minutes south and go to Senior Antonio's on 23 or 20 minutes south and go the the other El Vaquero in Shawnee Hills on Dublin Road because this one is done! read more
