Our school ordered bagels two times and told them to deliver by 7:15 am. The first time the driver said he had the wrong address and was driving to Canada and showed up at 8:00 am. The second time they came late again at 7:55 after telling them to be in school by 7:15 am so we could sell for breakfast. I had so many left over bagels. We were doing it as a fundraiser but we ended up losing money due to the bagels arriving late. We will never use them again. We are ordering from another company. I placed a simple order for three bacon, egg, and cheese bagel sandwiches. While the older woman behind the counter began preparing our food, my 11-year-old son pointed out that she wasn't wearing gloves. I let it slide, assuming she had washed her hands. Then I witnessed something so repulsive, I genuinely thought I was being pranked. She turned her back to us, took a swig directly from a plastic milk container, and then--shockingly--poured that same milk into the eggs she was about to cook for our sandwiches. I have never seen something so unsanitary happen in a restaurant before. When I asked her if that was our food and why she had just drunk from the container, she casually replied that she was "making sure it wasn't expired." I was stunned. I asked if she seriously thought that was an acceptable way to check milk, and she just looked at me with a blank, almost defiant stare. I told her it was absolutely disgusting and made it very clear we would never return. This kind of behavior is not only unsanitary but completely unacceptable for any food establishment!!!! Only one person there working, so the three people in front of me that ordered breakfast sandwiches ended up making me wait about 15 minutes just for a toasted bagel and cream cheese. I had the misfortune of purchasing 3 bagels from the Clinton Township location on Garfield last week. I understand that it was 11:30 am, but the bagels I purchased were as hard as hockey pucks. There were only 3 left and older lady who waited on me acted like she was doing me a favor by giving me 4 for price of 3. I had to wait 5 minutes for service as she was on the phone setting up a schedule with someone. This leads me to believe she was the manager. I will never visit this location again! I go here for the lox bagel. It is the only place around that offers one. Not even "New York deli" places have lox. The bagels are fresh and I have always been satisfied with my lox sandwich. Today we went and they had tons of different bagels. So what if the store dim? I honestly don't see how that matters at a grab and go type place. The coffee is good and so are the bagels. Decided to go to Elaine's and try out the "bagel w/lox" they've been advertising in their window. I should have listened to my instinct...walked in and the place was very dark and very empty. I was sooooooo hungry though. $6.90 later (plus $1 tip) I left with a bag and a big old appetite. Short story, took a bite...bagel was rock hard, dried out, and bland (I ordered the onion bagel). Now I'm really vexed. So I took another bite, and all of the ingredients started squishing out because I had to bite so hard into the bagel. I opened the bagel to discover wilted, brownish romaine lettuce, and a chunk of tomato that was also mushy and bland. So I'm starving, I took off the lettuce and tomato and continued to eat the bagel. Very bland, very stale bagel, very sad. Imagine how many lox bagels I could have made for $6.90 plus tip. They do not taste like bagels. -The scallion cream cheese was not made with fresh scallion, it was made with dried chives. -Toasting a bagel should leave it toasted, not just lukewarm. Bagels are always fresh. I like to get the cinnamon raisin with regular cream cheese. The place is a little dark but it's not as bad as I see most of the reviews say. It's pretty cheap compared to Tim Hortons or Starbucks. I'm not completely a fan of the coffee but the size of the cups are pretty generous. Employees seem to be nice and respectful with you needing time to decide on what you'd like to order. read more

For years when I worked I would take bagels from Elaine's on Garfield. They were always the best. Last several years they have gone Downhill so badly. I have gotten bagels that are still raw dough in the centers or so stale they have to go into microwave to soften them. Today I was at Walgreens next door and thought I would stop and grab a bagel. The store except for the light coming in the front window was in darkness. There was no salesperson around. I waited patiently. In walking to back of store I saw gal sitting outside playing on her phone. I said hello and she came in a bit and said you want something. I said YES I HAVE BEEN WAITING HERE. She said there is a bell....well couldn't see as it was in dark area off to side of counter. I asked for the onion chive cheese and she said we have none. I asked if she could make up some as they ALWAYS used to make it for the customers. She bluntly said NO. It amazes me that this place is so dark...are they hiding filth...roaches...mold or anything else. There were also about 8 paper grocery type bags lined up on the floor for future take out orders. Very dingy and unkept. I'm actually surprised they have kept their franchise. Lost of outdated and unused equipment sitting around, also the customer service is cold and unfriendly. I am certain that their "signature cream cheese" is Philadelphia put into containers as those are the exact flavors they carry and it's the identical consistency.
