Elgin Toyota won our business because of the efficient way they handled the interactions before we even stepped foot in the dealership. in truth, they gave us the most competitive price and upon arriving in Elgin, Roxie was was truly amazing in handling the rest. we left a deposit for a new vehicle and she kept us informed every step of the way. she doesn't push to upsell and takes the time to explain options, ultimately respecting our choices. she was consistently straightforward and very personable. overall, she made the whole experience as stress free as it can possibly be--and let's face it, it can be a lot to handle. once the car had arrived and we went to actually purchase it, (it took some time for it to be washed because they didn't have enough people at hand for the task; something that could be improved, surely no fault of Roxie's) Roxie took lots of time, and had an extra dollop of patience, explaining all the ins and outs of the new vehicle. it was a pleasant experience and she was sincere in telling me to reach out at any time if i had any questions. her work ethic is appreciated and it is easy to see her in a managerial role in the future. she goes above and beyond to be helpful, would be calm in a whirlwind of activity and would strive to keep up to date about her industry. Did you notice that of hundreds of reviews that they have more one-star reviews than all others combined? And you haven't turned away yet? Then I don't know if I can stop you from coming here, but here was my experience. And no editorializing here, just the facts. I found a used Corolla at Elgin Toyota on Autotrader. I called thedealer on Wednesday and spoke to a salesperson, saying, "I'm going to come look at [this] car on Friday, and I'd like to take it to my mechanic 20 minutes away, have him inspect it, and bring it back. If it looks good, I'll write you check for the whole amount. Can I do that?" "Sure, sure, no problem," is the reply. Friday morning I called, spoke to another salesperson, and we had the exact same conversation. Went down there Friday afternoon and sat down with a third salesperson and explained what I intended to do. He immediately gets a sales manager, and then returns to try to explain to me that "the way they do it" there is that I buy the car first, then take it to the mechanic, and if anything is seriously wrong they will then undo the deal. I call bullshit and walk out the door, only to find that my ride had abandoned me despite my explicit instruction not to. So I had to go back inside and sit in a chair, whereupon the salesperson and manager see me and approach to tell me, "You know what, actually if you just sign this 'drive-away' form you can take the car for the inspection." Huh! So I do, and my mechanic reveals to me that the spare tire changing kit is missing the lug nut wrench and wheel lock key, and you can't change the tire without either one. So upon returning to the dealer I say to the salesperson, "Here's my offer: You throw in the missing tools, I'll write you a check for the listed price, and I won't write a bad review." He immediately, of course, goes to talk to a sales manager and comes back without the manager but with papers for me to sign, and he says to me yes, they'll throw in the tools. But the sales contract has on it an item saying "VIN Tags: $299". I ask him "What is this? I don't need VIN Tags. What the hell are 'VIN Tags'? The VIN number is stamped on the car. No one needs 'VIN Tags'. I'm not paying for this." Whereupon (of course, again) he goes to get the sales manager (but not before asking me once again to just sign the contract!), who comes back to try to explain to me again that "this is how we do it here". I got up to leave again, telling them they really wasted my time. The sales manager replied by telling me 1) that I was the one wasting time, 2) that HE never wasted my time, and 3) that they never asked me to buy the car before taking it to the mechanic. 1) Bullshit, 2) ok HE never wasted my time but the dealership sure did, and 3) bullshit. And they let me walk out again. They must think they can con the next guy into paying for "VIN Tags". Man, do I hate dealerships. All dealerships, not just this one, but now especially this one. This place is very dishonest. My wife bought a vehicle used 2020 rav4 2020 with 27,000 miles on it. Well, little did we know we had a diagnostics test on it done for last week, and they told us the alternator was worked on. The pigtail and in house connector of the alternator was cut and taped back together with black electrical tape. The alternator had been damaged and obviously they recommended us to change it and the pigtail with the in house connector. Don't come here! A rip-off in both sales and service depts. In 2022, bought a used Highlander Hybrid with 13,000 miles on it. Within a few weeks, two tires went flat as they had stolen the original tires and put garbage tires on the vehicle. I had purchased the extended package which included roadside assistance. But their roadside assistance wouldn't come out for flat tires! When I called the General Manager, he refused to pay for the AAA I was going to have to buy and just blamed the roadside assistance company even though they had sold it to me. The extended package I purchased included oil changes every 6,000 miles. So I would pay them to rotate the tires whenever I had it in but they never rotated the tires over the course of 4 visits! They lied last week about the tread remaining on the tires because if they had been honest, it would have been obvious they hadn't rotated the tires! So now I am out for two more tires on the rear they never rotated. These folks are not honest!!!!!!!! read more

Don't walk away from Elgin Toyota....RUN! I spent 3 days discussing the new 2023 Toyota Sienna with the BDC department. Andrea sent me two of the exact same car with matching MSRP $51,718. I agreed to purchase one vehicle over the phone. She said I had to come in to complete the sale which I knew was unnecessary given the new covid policies. I agreed to drive 45 minutes just to give them a $1000 deposit. The salesmen greeted me and let me take a quick test drive to be sure this was the car for me. When I returned they offered me $10,000 in accessories to the van I did not want or could afford. 62k plus tax for a minivan was over my budget. The General sales manager Bob Keissami said I was told on the phone by the BDC department what to expect. They flat out lied to me so I would drive in for the bait and switch. Their own online price was MSRP $51,718 which I was fine with. This dealer uses a bait and switch policy for trick consumers and force you to take accessories you don't want, even though the vehicle is not even built . I asked to speak to the GM for further discussion but he said no. He tried to kick me out of the store but I insisted to see the GM. When the GM came down I agreed to leave. I should have read the online reviews before driving over. 10k over is egregious and predatory. Their only prices are bogus and their tactics are from the1980s. Caveat emptor. read more

Beyond disappointed and frustrated with our experience at this dealership today. We booked an appointment on July 16 to purchase the car we were interested in. I clearly said the vehicle we wanted and some of the terms I wanted to discuss, and the person I spoke to indicated she had recorded my requests. The confirmation email said "We will have the vehicle(s) you are interested in waiting for you." Our appointment was at 9:30am on July 17. We drove over an hour from Chicago for our appointment. When we got in, we were seen by a different representative than we'd scheduled the appointment with because the original one wasn't coming in that day until 1pm (so it was odd that they'd scheduled an appointment with her in the first place). After waiting for 10-15 minutes for the paperwork, we were told that the car we had come in to purchase was being looked at by different people at that very moment. Are you serious? The manager told us that cars are looked at on a first-come-first-serve basis. That was not what was communicated to us before. The email and my communication on the phone while making the appointment indicated that the car would be waiting for us. It seemed that as we were sitting waiting, the car was being shown to someone else. Unbelievably poor communication and service. I honestly cannot believe that that just happened. They told us we could "wait and see" if the other people decided to buy the car. Are they kidding? Are we supposed to sit in a dealership waiting all morning while the car we'd made an appointment to purchase is being test driven by another couple?? Everything is also very slow at this dealership. When we came in on Monday, the two representatives we saw knew none of the answers to our questions - every time we asked something, they'd leave for 10-15 minutes to check, then return, only to have to leave again to get the answer to another question. However, they made up for it in the great service from a team member named Cosby! Cosby listened to us, and despite not having an appointment, valued or urgency in leaving that day with a new tire and a repaired tire. Everything is true about this dealer from not honoring the Costco discount program to forcing you to purchase the 'pro pack' that they claim has to come with every car. Once they got my $1,000 deposit I felt trapped. I would have saved more walking away from the deposit than they trapped me in to get my car. They used blatant lies (e.g. "we have to include this because we already purchased supplies needed to install the interior/exterior protection") and every dirty trick in the book to get me to pay thousands more than their written offer. Very disappointed with Toyota of Elgin I purchased a brand new Toyota crown limited on may 15 2024.I also purchased a paint protection plan with my crown. I brought my car in for a bird dropping that stained the paint ,the service advisor said that he would call me in a week for an appointment to get it fixed. Three weeks went by and didn't hear from the advisor so I called the advisor and said that what was going on with my car and he apologized told me he was waiting for a body shop to do the job and he told me he would get back to me so I waited another 3 1/2 weeks no call back, then I made a complaint with the Toyota complaint department and the manager at the dealer call me and admitted that they dropped the ball . I asked for the money back for the protection plan that I paid several hundred dollars for,but they wouldn't refund me the money back ,they just offered me a couple free oil change and I declined that because I get 2 years free maintenance. He was compassionate, honest and very professional. Alex the mechanic who fixed my issue was THE BEST!! He went above and beyond to troubleshoot my issue, engaged in conversations with Toyotas corporate office to further diagnose the problem. The level of troubleshooting Alex did to find the root cause of my problem was greatly appreciated and d exactly how all service should be conducted. I have a 2023 Hybrid Hylander Platinum and have had nothing but problems with the hatch not connecting since I first purchased this vehicle. I purchased my car in June 2023 and July 2023 is when I noticed the hatch not connecting properly. Unfortunately for me I took my vehicle in to Pauly Toyota in Crystal Lake which was the biggest mistake ever. I purchased my vehicle from Elgin but live closer to Pauly Toyota. We were looking for a used Camry and Elgin Toyota had a good selection last fall. My wife and I test drove several cars and found one that we liked. From that point on, the trouble started with the finance department. We chose to get a loan through Toyota Financial after our application was accepted, and after a long wait were taken into the back offices to complete the paperwork. The finance manager we were assigned to went through the usual spiel. I declined all additional warranties . Of course, they are persistent. I had to keep explaining several times that we do not buy warranties on used cars as a general rule. The finance manager passed numerous papers over to my wife to sign to finish the purchase. When I returned home I found that he had snuck in a $500 anti-theft warranty that we did not want, without informing us what it was for, and my wife had signed the bottom of the form. I called Elgin Toyota many times and couldn't get anyone on the line or to return my calls, so I finally texted the salesperson we'd worked with, who said he would talk to the finance person involved. They finally called us back and I explained we had been charged for an additional warranty we had not wanted. Despite all my protests, they would not drop the warranty, but they did say we were overcharged for it and asked me to come into Elgin Toyota and fill out some paperwork and they would refund $200 of the $500. The finance person said the $200 credit would appear on our Toyota finance account. I waited through the holidays and it never appeared. I have tried calling Elgin Toyota for weeks and no one answers their calls or calls back. This is incredibly deceptive practice. Yes, we should have been more careful and read through all the documents we signed when we were there, but when we told them we did not want any additional warranties, they shouldn't have tried to push that past us underhandedly. But beyond that, they went back on their word. They had me take several hours out of my day, drive all the way up to Elgin Toyota, just to get $200 refunded, and then they never bothered to process it. It is impossible to reach anyone by phone, and they do not return calls. So just be aware, once you buy a car from them, they are done with you. They could care less about any customer service once the deal is done at Elgin Toyota. They are not trustworthy and say they will do something but not mean it or follow through with it. read more

They are unwilling to drop the charge so i put in a settlment offer of 50% ($3000) - which again I shouldnt have to pay. Its now been a month as my credit keeps getting smashed and Toyota could care less. Their credit dept refuses to stop dinging my credit, and their "management" could care less. My life is being ruined every day because of their own LIES. Absolutely horrifying people can sleep at night knowing what is going on. I am to the point where a Lawyer may need to be involved.
