It's a cool location and this place seems like it has a lot of potential.. We are visiting from out of town for a concert and thought we'd try a nice seafood spot on the boardwalk area. Service wasn't great but that's whatever-- truly my fish was inedible. I got the blackened flounder platter and I'm telling you this was SO SALTY. There were other flavors that wouldn't have been bad at all but the fact that the fish tasted like a salt lick was so overpowering I couldn't get it down. I think being able to get some Water (which we had to ask for a couple of times) would have made the experience better? The fries and slaw were good! (But definitely not worth 20 bucks.) I don't think I would recommend this place, maybe it's better on a weekend night? But I'm sure the wait would be longer in that case, so keep that in mind too. read more

I would not recommend this restaurant. The hostess was very rude and walked off and left us and we ended up leaving and not eating at all. The food may be good. I don't know but they were not friendly or welcoming and it just seems that might set the tone for the whole meal. We were staying a week on Front Street just a block away and were really looking forward to trying all the restaurants along the riverfront, but we found a really good one down the street and we're very happy with our meals read more

Down on a weekend getaway and discovered Elijah's while walking around the Riverwalk. Excellent service from Maya, we had a half dozen oysters Rockefeller and half dozen of firecracker oysters followed by a big crab cake sandwich and a tuna but. It was better than I expected for our Sat lunch spot. My thought was around this being a tourist spot with overpriced less than average food. It surprised us. First off, the outdoor patio was really large and we had a perfect day to sit outside along the waterfront. We started with a crab dip appetizer ($16) and it was pretty tasty - with perfectly toasted crostini. My bride ordered the Salmon BLT ($16) and said the fish was well prepared. My daughter ordered the Shrimp Scampi ($28) and loved it (generous qty of shrimp) and our son-in-law had the Mahi Fettuccine ($28) and said it was good. My grilled Mahi Fish Tacos ($18) were okay. Too hot for me after a long car ride, so we sat by a window - offered by the hostess! That was great. Crab cakes are North Carolina style - so a bit more filler than I like. They're perfect NC style cakes though, flavor is excellent and a family recipe according to the hostess. Got my cake on a sandwich but would probably opt to go bun-less next time. The coleslaw on the bun with the tartar sauce makes for a wet sandwich and the cake got lost. It was like eating a coleslaw sandwich. Coleslaw was good, I just found myself taking everything apart because I wanted the cake to be the star of the show! What a fantastic view they have at this spot ! It's definitely a great place for a date or a group I would suggest outdoor seating for sure... We were immediately greeted by our super sweet server her name was Corey she really gave us amazing service I would definitely ask for her again next time. We chose Elijah's on a Saturday night in downtown Wilmington, thinking it would be special -- it was where we had our first date, and we were back for our 17th anniversary. Big mistake. The first red flag: the place was practically empty on a Saturday night. That should've told us everything we needed to know. The service dragged along at a snail's pace, and the menu had nothing of interest if you're not a seafood fan. Yes, it's a seafood restaurant -- I get it -- but even so, a place that claims to be a staple downtown should have at least one decent option outside of fish. The first table they gave us? Shoved against the wall, jammed in next to loud parties, like we were afterthoughts. We asked to move and were given a "better" seat -- by the window, where our view was literal garbage outside. Romantic. When the food finally arrived, it only cemented the disaster. My meal was cold and flavorless, and my husband's plate looked like it had been thrown together by someone blindfolded. Nothing about it felt worth the money, the time, or the sentiment. For a restaurant that's been around as long as Elijah's, this was embarrassing. We won't be going back. I'm giving this review a 3 although it should be lower. From the moment I tried making reservations on the phone and they left me on hold for 6 minutes to the point we sat at the empty bar and it still took 10 minutes to be waited on, I should have heeded the warning signs. We ordered beers (they were out of a few) and oysters which were overpriced in my opinion ($18/6), especially considering they had said it was happy hour? The bartender was frazzled and not very friendly...or fast. Once we were seated at our table it took another painful 10+ minutes for anyone to come over and bring waters. Being on the deck was a pretty view and quiet, but that's about it. The service was friendly enough outside, just slow. All of our meals came out but one and we were told the cook messed it ip and was remaking it. This took until the entire table was done with their meals... funny that the waitress had said it was the most popular meal (stuffed shrimp). The table ordered the crab dip for an appetizer, everyone seemed pleased. We ordered dinners such as shrimp and grits (was a fan fav), NY strip, fish and chips and the black and bleu salad. The salads were average, not much lettuce or substance. The stuffed shrimp portion size was nothing to write home about, but i tasted okay. Overall, I was not impressed with the service or the food and when the manager offered to comp the stuffed shrimp like he was doing us a favor, I about had enough. It appeared as though they had plenty of staff, it was not very busy, but no one was working together. Save yourself, there are many more amazing restaurants worthy of a great meal than this one! read more

I was excited to try food from this restaurant as a first time visitor. The ambience was modern and looked like a ship. I appreciated the cabin-like vibe. However, I did not enjoy the crab cakes or the shrimp pasta. The crab cakes were salty, and filled with about 80% filler. The shrimp were small, undercooked, and bland. Also, I waited for an extended time to receive my food. That was another boiling point and last straw for me. Needless to say, the manager did not charge me for the meal. Thankfully, the waiter and manager were friendly. I am not impressed to return again any time soon. I drove 2.5 hrs with hopes to dine at this restaurant on the water. read more

We definitely enjoyed our overall experience but there were some inconsistencies in our food experiences. The baked crab dip was AMAZING but we only received 7 small slices of baguette to eat with it and we were charged $5 for more bread but weren't aware of the charge ahead of time. The salmon BLT and shrimp cocktail were a hit at our table. The Carolina boil had a great variety of seafood but the food was bland because the Old Bay was clearly sprinkled on after the fact and not cooked with the seafood. The sausage also wasn't chorizo. Mix of pro's & cons. Pro's- My wife got the oyster bucket for $40. Seemed expensive but it really is a fair price for ~3 dozen oysters. The crab cake sandwich was excellent, loaded with lump crab & minimal filler. We had the seafood bisque, both the red & white were great- 5 stars on that. Cons- Service was VERY slow even though they were not crowded. My biggest complaint is partially my fault for ordering non-seafood in a seafood restaurant. I had the chicken carbonara. Told the waiter I love carbonara & he confirmed "good choice" [as he said that with everything we orderd]. The carbonara is NOT carbonara. It's chicken Alfredo with a few bacon bits. It was a decent meal but completely misrepresented as carbonara. I told our waiter & he said he would inform the kitchen. We'll that won't help if management doesn't know they're misrepresenting something on the menu. I will be back but will order something different. read more
