I have an office next door to Elite and have been a customer since they opened their doors. The service, food and drinks are excellent and they are great with large groups. We just hosted a 40th bday party there with about 50 people and the staff was outstanding while not ignoring any of the other patrons. Drinks -the drink selection is decent at fair prices. I tried the raspberry cider and it was lovely- however this place has a lot of work to do on everything else. Atmosphere- large, bright, open. I prefer classic dark cozy pubs, but some might like this. I noticed a pile of board games in the back which could be fun with the right groups. Food- we got the charcuterie and poutine. The Charcuterie was decent. Poutine was advertised with gravy, cheese and green onions- however when it came the "green onion" was simply a garnish. Not worth the price as it was not that good. In fact sadly, most if not all of their food is overpriced and even higher priced than their LAST overpriced menu. For example... you can get a beef dip or wrap for $17... but if you want a side its an additional $2-3. How rediculous for subpar pub style food! The table behind us even left after loudly exclaiming at the food prices on the menu. It seems that most restaurants offer reasonably priced food and make it up on drinks. These guys are the opposite with reasonable drinks and astronomical food. Overall opinion - I would go for drinks again but will NEVER purchase food again here based on the principle of overpriced mediocrity. read more

There are a lot of craft brewery places popping up on Alberta - but I haven't seen many places doing ciders! So when I found out about this place in Calgary I had to give it a shot. The place itself has a really neat layout. It's bright and open with a large bar going trough the middle of it. Very nice spot to sit and have a drink. The food itself was excellent. The pepperoni pizza was tasty, and we also had an order of veggies which were fresh tasting. Of course the main reason to go is the beer and cider. We only tried the ciders - the Kittyhawk (this place does have a military theme) was an apple cider that wasn't too dry, but not too sweet either. Overall highly recommend anyone to try this spot out! read more

A great place to enjoy a locally brewed beer or cider, but the food. . .?! We've really been trying to love this local brewhouse/cidery and have been several times since they opened. We love the cider, (haven't tried the beer yet) but the food really leaves a lot to be desired. We ordered some typical pub staples last time we were there, chicken fingers and chili fries and they arrived barely warm. The fries that came with the chicken fingers were limp and a bit soggy as were the chicken fingers. I'm not sure about the deal with the chili fries, they were soggy and the chili was just some spiced up ground beef with imitation cheese whiz and some other sauce on top, not very tasty or appetizing. No real cheese to be seen anywhere. Unfortunately our server never came back to check on us until we were ready to leave but he was good enough to set things straight with the bill. I think that if you want people to come in for a couple of drinks, you need to provide some better quality food to get your customers to stick around. My recommendation is to eat before you go and just enjoy the drinks and the atmosphere. read more

I am a huge cider fan and it's great to have a spot that has a good selection of both beer and cider. I had the raspberry cider which had great flavour but wasn't too sweet . The building itself is very nice. The staff were friendly and we received great service. They have a good selection of board games. Offer flights do you can try a variety of their beers and/or ciders. We didn't order any food so I can't speak to that; but would go again as it was a great experience. read more

We have been here quite a few times (alone and with friends) but havnt been there in about 3 months. We brought a friend from out of province and we were thoroughly underwhelmed with the food and service. Our drinks were good minus the approachaberry cider. It was very perfumy. We ordered the pretzels to start with space force cheese which either was warmed cheese whiz or tasted like it. Husband got a beef dip which was lukewarm at best with cold au jus and my chicken burrito was floating in liquid. And the buffalo chicken wrap had no heat. For the price the food used to be good but apparently standards have slipped since our last visit. read more

Only giving 2 stars based on location and cleanliness. As a local in this pub's neighbourhood, I tend to visit based on pure convenience. It's actually a running joke with the locals in this hood how bad the service is and the ongoing reminder to "eat before we go to Elite". The place has great atmosphere, lots of seating, is clean, and the drinks are relatively enjoyable, the in-house brews are strong! It would be such a bonus if the food was at least edible. Don't mean to be harsh, but seriously, think worse than hungry-man frozen dinner quality. Nothing to offer any dietary requirements (vegetarian, vegan, dairy free, gluten free). We are in central Calgary, not small-town Alberta. The service is chaotic. Know what you want to order asap, and double up on your order if its busy because you never know when they'll be back. Very friendly, but don't expect any of the servers to know what's on tap or what an IPA is. There seems to be a rotating door of new servers. It's quite easy to see that there is a lack of training and direction, no table #s or set areas for the servers. Really hope to see some improvements because there's a lot of great patrons in the area looking for a good place to hang out and spend money within walking distance. read more

Today was my third and final attempt at trying elite brewing! My first attempt last month I was sitting with my brother at the bar counter waiting for service as I could see others were waiting for service to we sat there for 15 minutes and at that time we decided to leave. The bar was only a quarter full of patrons in but yet the five or so Employees were still unable To take their eyes off their electronic ordering devices my second attempt a couple weeks back I stopped in there early as the doors were open so I walked in to try and get a growler of Cider But was turned away due to them "not" being open but had there doors open. And my third and final attempt was this evening to pick up a growler of Cider. Unfortunately they only had two beers available for growler fills. A new pub in the neighborhood! So last night we checked it out. Nice, clean, bright place. Has a military theme, that doesn't excite me- but hey that's just a personal taste. We sat at the bar and met Dan, the bartender. Dan was very affable and conversant. The menu is interesting. My wife tried a local brew which she enjoyed, and I tried a cider which was enjoyable. They call this a Cidery, however there were only three ciders available. Dan did allow me to try two of them before I made my selection. We ordered a couple of appys to share. They were good. No deep fryer at Elite. Fries were oven baked. Overall, an enjoyable experience. Value was good. We'll be back. read more

Visited the establishment recently are was more than a little disappointed. It being in our neighbourhood, we were happy to see a micro-brewery within walking distance. Service was very poor. We had to ask our server several times for forgotten items. She seemed unhappy to be there and moved about slowly. I ended up going to the bar to get what we wanted. The food was uninspiring. We ordered the veggie platter which held an assortment of veggies, humus and crackers. The majority of the veg were carrots that were so old and uneatable that we left them on the plate but not before we played with them to see how far they could bend before breaking....they didn't break. The beer was....eh. Although like most micro beer tasting rooms, the majority of beer is extremely hopped. I don't mind an IPA now and then, but everything was hopped to the max..aside from the kolsch which wasn't too bad. Unfortunately after the initial bitter hop bite the beer lacked any real flavor. The cider? Can't comment on that...not a cider fan so didn't try any. Overall a very poor and disappointing experience. Shame really, it was in walking distance too. read more

I am pretty easy to please. Give me beer and nachos. I will pay and tip you. Alas, in on a Sunday afternoon I sat down at the Cidery and no service came. I went to the counter and ordered. The beer was good. Nachos came out Luke warm cheese barely melted. I thought to tough it out but only got so far. Ok - shit happens. Perhaps they could heat it up. There are no less than 5 hipster staff behind the counter. They are not visiting customers. They are variously iPading, chatting amongst themselves, and chatting up patrons who chose to sit at the bar. 2 stars for the cold beer. Can't offer more. My friend and I first went to Elite because he has Celiac's Disease and can't drink beer. He loves their dry apple cider. We keep going back because it's a fun, relaxing and friendly place. It's a young crowd (I'm 49 and my friend is 60) and we are at least two generations older than everyone else but I don't feel out of place like I would surrounded by Millennials at a club. I keep promising myself that I'll try the food "next time" but I haven't yet. We always sit at the bar because of the trough of crushed ice that keeps our beer and cider cool. This place used to be great but now I continue to be disappointed. They won't let you fill growlers with certain beers. Service is awful and it takes 20-30 mins to get a beer. My wife and I had one of the worst pub experiences there last week! First, nobody cared when we walked in. After a while, we finally got someone to talk to us. The server was extremely unfriendly and even rude. We felt unwelcome. We just had a beer (good homemade pilsner, by the way) and walked away with a promise never to return again. I live in Cresent heights and have walked by Elite brewing quite a few times. We decided to go on a Thursday evening it was not busy. Walked in girl behind bar took forever to serve us,she was talking a a couple men at the bar and felt like we were an inconvience that we were interupting there conversation. Ordered cider and beer, which were good. Decided to sit on patio, if u call it that picnic tables in mulch. But our choice ordered nachos over priced, barely any cheese, very light toppings on top. Some kind of crisscut fries, again way overpriced for what you get. Server that was outside looked like she didnt want to be there, rushed us out at 7pm. This was my second time to Elite Brewing & Cidery. The first time we were impressed and made a note to come back. We decided last minute to stop in after work and sit on the patio. The service was horrible, the waitress provided the list and said she would be right back (never to be seen again)........ 10 minutes later someone else takes our order, at no time while drinking the beer did anyone check on us to see if we wanted food, or how were the beers. Now empty glasses sitting in front of us waiting, waiting, still no service. What could a great neighborhood location is very disappointing!! We went on a Sunday to try the beer and the food. I am vegetarian - they did not have anything that was vegetarian available as they were making their Sunday roast and did not have access to the oven to make anything that was vegetarian on the menua. They told me they could not even make a grilled cheese because of the Sunday roast, not sure why they could not make it on the stove but that is what the server told us. I did not want a salad I wanted something with a bit of substance. We live near by and go out for dinner a lot but will not be back as who knows if I will get anything to eat.
