This post is in response to Christina P's 11/2025 review…read more I am a studio parent who was present for this "final incident" referenced by Christina P. and whose child was directly involved, I felt it was important to add some context because I feel this parent's comments are retaliatory. The initial poster failed to include details of what happened. The children had been participating in a relay race followed by a pizza party. This poster's child was frustrated because my son, who is still developing his gross motor skills, was not fast enough for her and she felt he caused their relay team to lose. In response, she had a meltdown and threw pizza at my child's face. She is a sweet girl and I understand that children have big feelings at this age, but it's also true that actions have consequences. She did not apologize to him afterward, and in Taekwondo, integrity and respect are core values we take very seriously. This academy is first and foremost a discipline-based martial arts center, not a daycare, play gym, or therapy environment. The expectations for behavior, emotional regulation, and respect are part of the reason many of us choose this school. We want our children to learn structure, resilience, responsibility, and how to manage disappointments in safe and appropriate ways. Master Cynthia handled the situation exactly the way an experienced martial arts instructor should. She calmly removed the child from the group, asked her to sit with her parent, and invited her to return when calm. Poster's child was never left to cry alone. This is simply not true. With 10-15 young children in the room and food being served, this was the safest and most reasonable response. It is not the instructor's job to provide emotional counseling during class, and in a martial arts environment, stepping out to reset is a normal, age-appropriate boundary. I also want to speak to the comment about the school not being a "safe place." I have never once felt unsafe bringing my child here -- actually, the opposite is true. This academy has been one of the most positive, consistent, and community-oriented places in my son's life. We have students at the studio who began at age 3 or 4 and are now teenagers with black belts. I am incredibly proud to watch these kids grow into disciplined leaders in their schools and communities. Children are raised here. Families stay for years. That doesn't happen in a place that is unsafe or neglectful. Master Cynthia is a fifth-degree black belt who has spent over 30 years teaching children. She is firm, fair, and exceptional with young students. She sets boundaries with love, holds kids accountable, and teaches them values that matter: integrity, respect, self-control, and responsibility for their actions. These are qualities I want in the person teaching my child martial arts. The children absolutely love her and she has been an incredible influence in my young child's life as well as many of the other kids at our studio. I am sorry this family had a difficult moment. But from a fellow parent who witnessed the incident and whose child was affected, I feel strongly that this review does not reflect the reality of what happened, nor does it reflect the culture, safety, or professionalism of this school. Our experience here has been overwhelmingly positive, and I would recommend this academy without hesitation.

We encouraged being reprimanded for inappropriate behavior for our child, hoping for it to be a good learning environment. We were wrong. During our last and final incident, our daughter was told to "get out" of class and that she was going to be "fired", an alarming choice of words for a six-year-old. She cried alone on the mat until the Grandmaster stepped in and we left, and there was no follow-up from her instructor to check on her wellbeing or help her learn from the situation. The written response we later received after we terminated our contract only reinforced the lack of child-development understanding and professionalism. As a family, we do not feel safe with our young children being instructed by Master Cynthia. She is dismissive at best. Additionally, the facility is worn down, the bathrooms are consistently smell and dirty, and the overall environment feels neglected--concerning for a children's athletic space. We can't recommend this academy. Families looking for a supportive, developmentally appropriate martial arts program should look elsewhere.

Master Lee = Amazing. We chose this studio over two years ago and I have watched my kids grow in body, mind and Spirit (no pun intended). The staff here from Master Cyril in the older days through the current staff have been nothing short of great. They are delicate where they need to be and tough when needed. They very much specialize in children. The studio has built and maintains a community feeling. They have definitely served the youth of La Mirada and the surrounding community by teaching discipline, confidence and self defense. They even participate in local tournaments if you are ready and they echo that sentiment. The sport of Taekwondo is definitely a great introduction to martial arts that develops flexibility, strength and balance. I'm very appreciative to Taekwondo Spirit for what my children have learned through them. Humility seems to flow through this place with nothing but respect given by and to everyone. The only "negative" I could even consider about the location is that the parking lot could get tight in the afternoon hours with the neighboring gym.

My son was trained by master Cyril for about 1 year before their lack of availability and our school schedule conflicted to the point of no longer being able to fit us in. The studio is small so understandable, just sad. I realize teaching autistic kids is not their specialty, but I had gone to one other local studio in La Habra that basically turned us away because they didn't want to do the hands on work it takes to teach a child that lacks imitation skills, while another in Fullerton was extremely overpriced and for only 15 minute sessions in addition to being too far. I hope to come back to this studio soon if they have the availability.

Elite Taekwondo was the perfect outlet for letting my son blow some steam, as he has so much energy he's like a golden retriever waiting to go out! My son is quite athletic and loves to do anything outdoors (basketball, biking, golfing, etc...). But he's not the most attentive. After watching martial arts movies one weekend, he kept play fighting and bullying his younger sister. Rather than getting upset, we found a reputable TaeKwonDo location and landed here. It's been pretty cool because not only does he break a sweat and enjoys it, but he's more calm now. I think it's because he's learning to listen and respect authority, while wanting to improve at the same time. I think the master teacher does a great job teaching the kids Taekwondo while mixing in great values and morals. read more

This place is highly recommended for instilling behavior traits such as focus, discipline, respect etc. Master victor and staff really pays close attention to all students, ensuring that they are learning what is being asked and also reminds them to practice, which in return could be beneficial to them when they appear in promotion test. My son has been going to this center when he first started with white belt and I can now proudly say that he had gotten to green belt level with significant improvement in discipline, strength and listening power. We love this place. The masters and instructors are all very kind. I love that they teach them discipline and self control. My son started here when he was 4 years old and looks forward to class every day. I am glad Master Victor and Master Neal takes their time to teach the little 4, 5, and 6 year olds the correct forms and techniques. I will be enrolling my daughter, nieces, and nephews soon as well. He is now a candidate belt, training for his black belt. Hands down, Tom Vo's program is the most effective, reliable, consistent, and challenging among the dojos I've heard about from other parents. Simply put, Tom Vo's program is incomparable. ALL the masters, leadership are amazing! They exemplify what you would want to see in a leader and a mentor! The kids are introduced to the program in a way that allows them to level up as they take on increasingly challenging activities. The gradual progression is truly something to witness and be a part of. One of the greatest benefits of this program is that kids and parents alike can see different levels of skills to aspire to. The philosophy of "training makes perfect" and pushing through challenges is a valuable lesson that is constantly reinforced. That said, these benefits don't come easy--just like anything worthwhile in life. It takes hard work, discipline, and consistency. There is a commitment required from the students and guidance expected from the parents. We are truly grateful for the dedication and effort the masters put into working with the students. I love seeing my little one grow and take ownership of both the small and big things in life. The experiences that our little one goes through in this program such as tournament, belt testing, intense black belt camp, leading warm-up in class and everyday interactions with other kids in different walks of life are opportunities to have unique and valuable conversations that no other environment can offer. Tom Vo Tae Kwon Do gives these kids a better chance and a greater opportunity to succeed in life.

This post is in response to Christina P's 11/2025 review…read more I am a studio parent who was present for this "final incident" referenced by Christina P. and whose child was directly involved, I felt it was important to add some context because I feel this parent's comments are retaliatory. The initial poster failed to include details of what happened. The children had been participating in a relay race followed by a pizza party. This poster's child was frustrated because my son, who is still developing his gross motor skills, was not fast enough for her and she felt he caused their relay team to lose. In response, she had a meltdown and threw pizza at my child's face. She is a sweet girl and I understand that children have big feelings at this age, but it's also true that actions have consequences. She did not apologize to him afterward, and in Taekwondo, integrity and respect are core values we take very seriously. This academy is first and foremost a discipline-based martial arts center, not a daycare, play gym, or therapy environment. The expectations for behavior, emotional regulation, and respect are part of the reason many of us choose this school. We want our children to learn structure, resilience, responsibility, and how to manage disappointments in safe and appropriate ways. Master Cynthia handled the situation exactly the way an experienced martial arts instructor should. She calmly removed the child from the group, asked her to sit with her parent, and invited her to return when calm. Poster's child was never left to cry alone. This is simply not true. With 10-15 young children in the room and food being served, this was the safest and most reasonable response. It is not the instructor's job to provide emotional counseling during class, and in a martial arts environment, stepping out to reset is a normal, age-appropriate boundary. I also want to speak to the comment about the school not being a "safe place." I have never once felt unsafe bringing my child here -- actually, the opposite is true. This academy has been one of the most positive, consistent, and community-oriented places in my son's life. We have students at the studio who began at age 3 or 4 and are now teenagers with black belts. I am incredibly proud to watch these kids grow into disciplined leaders in their schools and communities. Children are raised here. Families stay for years. That doesn't happen in a place that is unsafe or neglectful. Master Cynthia is a fifth-degree black belt who has spent over 30 years teaching children. She is firm, fair, and exceptional with young students. She sets boundaries with love, holds kids accountable, and teaches them values that matter: integrity, respect, self-control, and responsibility for their actions. These are qualities I want in the person teaching my child martial arts. The children absolutely love her and she has been an incredible influence in my young child's life as well as many of the other kids at our studio. I am sorry this family had a difficult moment. But from a fellow parent who witnessed the incident and whose child was affected, I feel strongly that this review does not reflect the reality of what happened, nor does it reflect the culture, safety, or professionalism of this school. Our experience here has been overwhelmingly positive, and I would recommend this academy without hesitation.

The instruction our 6 year received relied on threats, exaggerated consequences, and punitive language that caused unnecessary distress. We went here for over a year. We encouraged being reprimanded for inappropriate behavior for our child, hoping for it to be a good learning environment. We were wrong. During our last and final incident, our daughter was told to "get out" of class and that she was going to be "fired", an alarming choice of words for a six-year-old. She cried alone on the mat until the Grandmaster stepped in and we left, and there was no follow-up from her instructor to check on her wellbeing or help her learn from the situation. The written response we later received after we terminated our contract only reinforced the lack of child-development understanding and professionalism. As a family, we do not feel safe with our young children being instructed by Master Cynthia. She is dismissive at best. Additionally, the facility is worn down, the bathrooms are consistently smell and dirty, and the overall environment feels neglected--concerning for a children's athletic space. We can't recommend this academy. Families looking for a supportive, developmentally appropriate martial arts program should look elsewhere.
